Corey breaking with a bridge

I was playing Corey in the IPT Vegas event and he was breaking with his eyes closed.. He would get set with his eyes open, then close his eyes and stroke the ball somewhere around 4-5 times before he broke.. Kinda funny but it was working fine..

For the record, I won that match.. lol
 
Well, that's the damndest thing I've ever seen.

Anyone know why??
 
I think it had something to do with people complaining about his soft break.
 
anyone remember his 1 pocket match about 10 yrs ago at the derby? Didn't take long to end all of his bridge action.
 
He's an experimenter, especially with the break. Gotta admire that he's willing to try anything to better his game, even if it looks ridiculous. Earl's sort of the same way.

I can think of a few reasons...
- felt his bridge hand was somehow steering the shot or otherwise letting him down
- bridge hand too sticky and chafing, didn't have a glove
- some back or shoulder problem made it more comfortable
- side bet with mike D or a spectator lol

maybe he had a side bet with a friend ; or to see what Earl would come up with later..lol.
Then theres the whole hand held bridge thing going around..you know..hey
lets see what every body does if I do this..sit back,watch,and laugh his ass off..
nothing wrong there either..sharking on a fun level..
don't get me wrong..I like Cory..who knows for sure why he does
what he does...
 
Corey has fairly short fingers and his bridge isnt high enough to hit the cue ball at the point he wants. The bridge elevates his cue so he can hit slightly down on it and get the desired hit on the cue ball.
 
He's willing to take chances. I'm sure he'd practiced the bridge-break and had some success with it. He figured this was a good situation to put it to the test. I like his style.
 
Corey players better with the bridge than he does with his cue. :grin:

Saw him barbecue a player playing with the bridge, getting a spot, and he ran out like a champion with the rake. :cool:

I couldn't watch the video, so I'm just going to imagine that he was literally breaking with (cueing with) the bridge. THAT would be excellent!

Jam he was using his own cue, but, he was using the rake as his bridge hand to break
 
I broke with a bridge a few times after seeing that match the other year. It's surprisingly stable and actually works well. Give it a try....you'll be surprised.
 
I would say this.....to get proficient with a bridge, I guess Corey had a sore bridge hand! OR....he felt it was the best way to win whatever event he was playing in!

Too many people think he shows up and gives the world the 7 with no practice......My guess is he is somewhere working hard on his game and when he got there his bridge hand was wrecked ,....so he went with the bridge.....

He played several money matches this way at the DCC several years ago -- always using the bridge. I watched him walking around the table like some weird preying mantis and it's not like you would think, with the bridge always fully extended -- he most often would tuck it under his armpit and use it like a third hand. He murdered with it.

He did this a couple of time in the Viking tour. They would not let him soft break so he went to breaking with the rake. It worked great!
