Autumn Cue - New Blank to Finishing

This cue was going to be my ten year cue but I screwed up the math. LOL. Only 9 years in March since I did my first SP.

Well on a rating 0-10 it will be a definitely be a 10 in my book:wink:

The wrap was set a long time ago but further to finish we didn´t want to take any chances, all of them will work but we will look at them close to the cue before we decide. A easy way is always go darker but... will see:smile:

Be a part of the making of a cue, especially your own is something really special. Rick and I have had so much fun and good brainstorming, he come up with an idea, I come up..... back and forth all the time. Btw - this has been a choice from both of us.
Some cm´s like to work like this some not, if you like to work closely like this Rick is a very good choice. I have already spotted out some amazing wood for another project with Rick, both of us work as one and we have a really great understanding for each other.

I have several cues on order from different makers and they all will have my specs and my choice in colors etc.
My cue collection will be thinned out to just have the cues that I really like in all departments. A lot of learning and different approaches on cues over the years have payed off, it´s even more fun now.

One thing they really do have to have is a good playability, havn´t tried Rick´s cues out but I have done my homework on them and I´m 99% that the cue will play the way I like.

This cue will also have a 3c shaft made for it (Rick will take help about the taper etc - he can fill in if He want´s) , I have a amazing playing 3c cue from Lambros and it will still be my 3c player but 3c isn´t my game really so I will try this out a lot also.
I´m doing it mainly because of my 3c friends, they are all very knowledgable about a how a cue hit but they all have these production cues with a lot of metal in them so they can balance it by themselves.
Now some of them are so interested in cues because I have showed them so much and hopefully they will start to make their own special custom cue instead. Will be a fun project to see if they will come around:smile:.

Btw you are more than welcome to state your wish on which wrap should be put on.

Amazing choices, Materials/Colors. and it will be a strong player. I bet you really like the taper and handle size that Rick uses. Congrats Chrippa.

Yes I´m pretty sure I will like the play and feel in this cue.

Rick will upload some new pics soon, the shafts is close, wrap etc. The bumperless part will go throw a bit of a change, Rick came up with a idea I think will be great:-).
I have some mms pics but Rick will use his camera and now when he got his comp back from renovation it will be great.

Got my computer back from the fire cleaning service and have a family base camp in the motel. LOL. Here are the pics I have been promising.

Here is are pics of the wrap next to the cue. I agree with Jives's suggestion he made here, Brown EE warp looks the best and the it matches the orange features the best of the four, Also the texture look and feel rocks. Martin's wraps are very good.

I made the custom orange pads to fit on the ferrule tenon. By doing the the center of the shaft wll still be interfacing the leather as well. It will be a very nice touch aesthetically. Your shafts will be at finished taper turn sizing by sunday.

Kenny is going to hand paint The Autumn Cue on the bumper less botom plate in orange which I feel will be the finishing touch to your cue. I will put a high gloss finish in it to match the cue. The weight should be 19 oz. when we are done.

I am going to finish sand and epoxy to the substrate sunday and finish this bad boy next week.

Beautiful colors and flow on this cue . I like it better than any other cue you have done to date . I would only change one thing . I would have added a black paper veneer next to the white where it meets the maple . It would add definition, sharpness, and made the points POP a little more.

To my eyes the white gets "lost" against the Maple.

JMO of course . Keep up the good work.

Hi Lenoxmjs,

Before building this cue I was preaching the same thing you are saying to Chris concerning contrast and wanted to end on black paper myself. I get what your are saying. He however was dead set on ending with white knowing the the piece of Big Leaf Curly would darken up under the finish and also because of the heavy and deep chatoyance involved with this grain, the "bleached white" will look like it is suspended or floating within the finish and will pop for sure.

Sometimes going down a road less traveled opens up new ideas that will work. I have never seen this combo before and Chris had this vision for the soft look and stuck to his guns. I learned a lot and will do it again with other color combos. It only works good because of Beau's Bleached White Veneer.

The soft look will work and I am sure of it but I would have never done this myself with out Chris's confidence and taking a chance.

This is kinda of a bad pic from my cell phone but you can see it a little better how it will looks after I just put some white waterborne sanding sealer on it. Earlier in the process I coated the cue with penetrating schelak to take a peek and bleached white was jumping off the cue.

rick i will be down there next week in chicago and will stop by the shop on my way home to drop off the snakewood fot my new cue.....i can't wait to see this cue in person.....i will bring the donuts.......the guy had the piece for 5 years and it is waxed on the end so i think it is good to go......
 
Rick - you are the MAN!:smile:. What can I say... - I had already seen this pictures of course and we have brainstorming about it, on every aspect of this cue we have had a terrific "chairing in ideas" sort of speak, I come up with something and Rick fills in or vice versa.

This cue has a few new things in it that at least I havn´t seen before, see if you can see it:wink:? It´s all visible. However I can be wrong, don´t think so however since I´m such a cue nerd and have looked on many cues but...In one way of course - nothing is new under the sky.

When I design cues I pick ideas from "everything", cars, nice rugs - very good - I strongly suggest you look at some rugs and you will see a lot of veneer colors, patterns, color combos etc. I have some nice antique rugs and I just love the colors in them - all natural, kind of a bit "fade" sort of speak. Wallpaper is another good thing.

Brown and orange was very huge when I was growing up (born in 67) in Sweden and we had it in our small countryhouse on the walls back then - maybe it´s from there I like it so much, feel of comfort, security etc. We had green also - natural colors that unquestionable goes together very nicely. Love walking in nature and specifically in woods.

This is and have been a very fun project for me and has helped to clear my mind of other stuff that has happened in my life, good way to get the mind clear.

The cue is loaded with positive vibes, will probably be shooting the shots by itself.....:wink:

I cant go this year as we had a house fire and my family is living in a hotel for the next 4 months.

I wish I could but I have to be around to deal with all the contractors and insurance business stuff.

Rick, this cue is really coming out nicely...i'm super excited to see this cue completed..i can tell you're really passionate about what you built cos the details you include into this cue is amazing!

Rick, i do wanna send it to you as a gift for a cue. The only problem is Roger implanted a GPS in the case and i've got no idea where it is...so if it's not with me he's gonna hunt my a$$ down..Apparently the battery on the GPS is good for 2-3years...so i'll send you the case then in the meantime you can start building my cue :smile:

Chrippa,

Clear Coat has been curing nicely at temperature. Will wet sand, buff and install the wrap and Moori tips by the end of this week. "Consummatum est" :yeah:
