Chalk question

Is Masters and Triangle the same thing? I notice that they are both made by Tweeten in Chicago Ill. I am guessing that the triangle is slightly finer and harder than the Masters chalk. (kind of like Silver Cup Championship)

The only reason I ask is that I went to pick up some Masters this weekend and they were out so I picked up some triangle. I have never really tried this chalk that much and I don't really have an opinion of it yet.

I was a little disappointed to see that they charged more for the Triangle chalk than the masters, almost twice as much. But I will give it a day in court and see what happens. If I don't like it I will just donate it to the local pool hall.:thumbup:

I haven't tried that yet. I have been pretty happy with Masters so I have stayed with it. I am not saying that there isn't better out there, but it has fit the bill for me and is usually easily available. If the place I go to starts carrying Predator I might give it a try.
 
No, they're not the same...
Generally speaking, Triangle is used more by snooker and carom players.
 
I used masters and silver cup for a ling time. I took a chance on Predator and liked it a lot minus the stains it leaves on the cue ball.

I'm looking to try a cube of Blue Diamond to see if I like it better though a lot of the people who come from cubed chalk to Predator (its octagon shaped and challenging to find a pocket chalked for), have kept with it.

If you have a cube of Blue Diamond you're willing to trade, I'll send you an octagon of Predator.

I have tried the Blue Diamond and found it to be a bit messy, it also left marks on the cue ball. I would have taken you up on your deal but I already gave away my blue diamond chalk. It was decent though, I just found myself preferring Masters.

They're not the same thing. I'll recheck my notes, but the Triangle Chalk started life under another company (Augie Kiekhefer) before they merged with Tweetens.

They're pretty close though, I'd say.

I switched from Masters to Triangle and I seem to miscues less. I tried Balabuska chalk and while it worked just fine it is so soft my chalking hand turned blue like a Smurf,way to messy for me.
And this was on a brand new Everest tip.
 
I switched also from Master to Triangle. I find Triangle to be a little bit harder and grittier. I feel like it gets into the tip better.


Here is a cut and paste email I got from Tweeten company a year ago. In the first part, I was asking about the differences in Master chalk, flag and pre-flag, and then I asked about the Triangle vs Master chalk.

I wish I had a nickel for every time I answered this question. The simple answer is there is NO difference. It's just a label and has nothing what-so-ever to do with the chalk. The reason for the flag is two fold. First, following 9/11 we as an American Company felt it was our way of showing our pride for the United States to place the flag on our chalk which goes all over the world. Second, our chalk is counterfeited quite a bit and in an attempt to stay a step ahead of the counterfeiters we randomly use the flag and non-flag label every day. This means that it is purely chance as to which piece of chalk gets a flag label and which piece gets a non-flag label. Again this is just a label and has nothing at all to do with the composition of the chalk.

To answer your second question, Master chalk was developed for the pool player while Triangle was developed for the billiard/snooker player. Triangle has a harder consistency then Master.

I,have tried the bushka, and the predator, both way to messy and not worth the difference in price .The new Masters light blue, i find to be a little better than the reg. masters just my opinion. And that other stuff is just .

Dunno about triangle. I don't even know if I,(consciously) used it before. I like Masters & Diamond,........ yes, even on my Kamui tips! :rolleyes:

I'll be curious to see what you think.
