Am I wrong to be pissed?

guy Im playing has to elevate to hit a shot, light is in his way. Player on my team holds light out of his way til he gets shot off! I flip out lose game and match because im soooo pissed. Am I wrong! never seen anything like this. wont again because i will never play with this guy again.:angry:

You're wrong. Don't be mad because the player is handicapped by the light placement. Have a little sportsmanship.

I don't carry around a rule book, and it's not necessary for me, I know enough about pool to eliminate squabbles.
If the match was important enough to have a referee, it would be a big tournament, and I doubt that the lighting would be an issue.
To bring someone from a neutral team over to hold the light may be legal, but it looks goofy for weekly league play.
The OP is mad because his own teammate held the light and I don't blame.
I wouldn't get mad but, I could see the jokes flying for the rest of the night.
For instance, if the guy on my team who held the light was playing and his opponent had to go to the bathroom...don't get me started.

Yeah, like that rule that explicitly allows the referee to move the light?

The rule book doesn't say that we can't make jokes about it.
Like the VNEA team we played that brought their own levels to the bar and almost got their butts kicked by the regulars.
Legal, but still funny at the same time.

OMG, that's too funny. They might not have made it out of my place without that level being wrapped around one of their necks....

Apparently the WPA disagrees with you.....

The chairs and tables in the room are there when you both start. Would you disagree if someone moved one of them?

Not sure how one can surmise that the light is part of the table....

Yep my bad.I was wrong.Sorry bout that.I wonder what kind of player came up with a rule like that. I kind of doubt that it was a good player. JB

The WPA rules contemplate this when the light is hung lower over the table:

15. Lights
...
If the light fixture above the table may be moved aside (referee), the minimum height of the fixture should be no lower than 40 inches [1.016 m] above the bed of the table. If the light fixture above the table is non-movable, the fixture should be no lower than 65 inches [1.65 m] above the bed of the table.

I'll hold the light, make a bridge, hold their foot, they still can't beat me.

In th 60's, I saw the ref hold the light for Mr. Crane in
a championship 14.1 match. I have seen someone hold
the light several times since, in league and high steaks money
matches. This is not just a bar banger rule. OP needs
to lighten up (imho).

If it were me, I would probably be mad that I lost the match. At the same time I would blame everyone and every circumstance during the match. However, unless someone moved an object ball or bumped the table really hard, I would not cry foul.

I think the player on your team was just being a team player shows he was into your game. You will lose alot of games for alot of reasons but just take it and move on.

I could be wrong but I don't think the guy that started this thread, hasn't had the balls to return .

I would consider it good sportsmanship, and would volunteer to hold it myself. What really bothers me, however, is that you allowed yourself to get mad. Even worse, is that by doing so, you gave yourself a reason to lose. No matter what happens, give yourself a break, and allow yourself to win.

That is just what I was thinking. Everyone is talking to each other and by now I'm sure the OP realizes he was indeed quite a number of things not the least of which was unsportsman like. I feel good about not using all kinds of assorted epithets which IMHO he would deserve. :D

I really only get on this site about once every 2 weeks so just now noticed all the replies. For the people who feel I have no balls or am a bad sport. I am the first guy that will help any player with their game. I also am a guy who will always be seated and quiet. I have been taught to respect the other shooter. I am also a guy who wants to win every game. I just never saw a light moved for another player when I played a safe and didnt think the guy had a shot. If you feel I was wrong thats fine I would never want a person to help me in that way. I am finding out that this site seems to be filled with very amazing pool players that hardly ever miss. I may be outta of my league to be posting comments with the likes of some of you. It could be my mistake by posting on here and just being a guy that shoots league pool. Maybe there should be a pro section and a regular guy section. I live in reality, Im average at pool and dont "put a sock in my shorts" to help my appearence. I was pissed at the time and joked about it the next day. Glad to have a post get so heated!

Hahahaha

Make sure when someone moves a chair or table out the way for a shot, you get pissed too......

The light is no different than any other piece of furniture. Your example is horrible, as they other player didn't hold his cue, make a bridge, or anything else like you state. A piece of furniture(in this case the light) was in the way and the player had it moved. No big deal, play better and don't give him a shot next time.....

Va, we gotta hang out some time. I like your style.
