Got an email from CSI cuesports news with the following announcement and link;

"Texas Bumps™, www.texasbumps.com, is a new, fun and exciting pool game where professionals and amateurs can compete on a fairly even playing field without the use of handicaps. That’s right, the “Average Joe can Beat the Pro™” without using handicaps. It may seem hard to believe, but I have seen Texas Bumps™ in action with my own eyes and actually watched the “Average Joe beat the Pro!” It’s designed for all skill levels - professionals, amateurs and recreational pool players alike. Texas Bumps™ is a game where competitors, friends, families and even enemies, can all come together for an enjoyable day, afternoon or evening of billiards and have fun. The way pool is supposed to be! " It went on to say;

"We are pleased to announce that we will be holding “Texas Bumps™ National Tournament/s” at the 2013 BCAPL National Championships in Las Vegas, July 17-27, 2013. The entry fee for the Texas Bumps™ Tournament is only $20 and there will be at least $5,000 total cash paid out, “Guaranteed” by us, Texas BumpsTM. In addition to the Texas Bumps™ National Tournament, there will also be free “Juniors Contests” with prizes and scholarship money being awarded. Please visit our website, www.texasbumps.com for all the tournament details."

And finally,

"Texas Bumps™ game sets are available for purchase at www.texasbumps.com. The game sets include a $20 voucher for free entry into the Texas Bumps™ Tournament in Las Vegas, along with a free training DVD by professional billiards player and instructor, Joe Tucker, entitled “Guaranteed Improvements.”"

I watched the video and other than an obvious opportunity to sell game sets I just don't get it. If someone can explain what I am missing, enlighten me please. (by way of full disclosure I should mention that my favorite game, to play and to watch, is 8 ball so that could be a factor.)

It's a different kind of game that might be fun. I don't view it as a replacement for other games, but an addition. It kind of strikes me as what miniature golf is to golf.

But at $40 for four pieces of plastic...well, I've just got higher priorities for my cash. Maybe the price will come down some day and I'll get to try it.

Texas Bumps

Texas Bumps isnt a pool game like you would think.

I call it more of 'parlor game'

The slogan is "where average Joe can beat the Pro" and it is true. It does take skill but nowhere near the level of normal pool games.

In a nut shell - this is more speed control than anything. You don't shoot the cue ball into another ball. You shoot your ball directly into the cup.

There are similarities to bumper pool.

Ths is a FUN game.

Anything that gets people to play cue sports is a good thing.

How many construction delays did you have to work through to get this fine product on the market?

Just shooting balls into the cup and I can beat a pro?

Bring in SVB and I will give it a go. I bet with both hands tied bhind his back and him tied to the chair I might have a chance.

Texas bumps

The game is ready to play!

Go to www.texasbumps.com for more info.

There will be a $5,000 minimum event at the BCAPL nationals in July at the Rio.

Just one more reason to come to Vegas!

Wrong

Every now and then I'll see a thread here that basically asks, "What's wrong with pool? How can we fix pool?"

This thread right here is a perfect example.

There was 7-ball, then speed 8-ball, then bonus ball. Then dozens of different rules for 9-ball. Then 10-ball, and a multitude of rules for that. Then 10-foot tables.

I might have missed a few hundred ideas to fix pool over the years.

The problem with pool, I think, isn't with the game. It's with the players.

Then again, I might be slightly inebriated, so never mind.

You know after reading your post twice I have to say I agree with you. You have a real valid point.

Reading my posts means you consent to my incorrect spelling and poor typing skills.

Got my email from CSI about the TEXAS BUMPS game. Looks like a game that will be fun to play. Looking at the videos, TEXAS BUMPS will be about shooting straight & speed control (what a concept) .

The big tournament at the Rio in July, sounds like fun & will probably get a lot of players to enter, the money will make that happen. I'll be there.

I also think TEXAS BUMPS will be a great starter game for lots of new players, that otherwise might not become a pool player because of their lack of skill & shyness about that.

I play a lot of GOLF on a Snooker Table with pool balls, bumping balls around with speed control is something I have fun doing already.

Most of my family can't play pocket billiards very well, but they will be able to play this game & have fun doing that.

If it's good for pool, I'll be glad to be a part of it.

Texas bumps

To Josev and Nobodyspecial:

You guys are missing the whole point of the game.

Ths is NOT about what s wrong with pool - this is only about a game that FUN players might enjoy.

Ever played bumper pool?
How about golf - or maybe 3-ball.

There is no intention of making this game be anything seen on TV for the ultimate world title - but there are 40 million recreational players out there - and some may enjoy it.

Try it - you might enjoy it too.

Texas Bumps. Is it from El Paso?
Cause I believe that is what I will do. El Paso.

I'll stick with the problem of making balls go into one of the 6 pockets. Its a challenge and its fun.
If I had to endure any more fun in my life, I don't know how I would handle it.

But ya know, if Bonus Ball happens to not fly, you could combine both games and call it Texas Bonus Bumps.

I hope its more fun than that other game called Bobble Ball. I got one for Christmas several years ago and forgot to
take it out of the package.

What gives with their Limited Use License Agreement ???
Seventh Pocket Billiards retains A RIGHT, TITLE, AND INTEREST IN AND TO THE GAME SET and Seventh Pocket Billiards can revoke all of your RIGHT, TITLE AND INTEREST in and to the Game Set if you do not meet all of the terms of this Agreement

You guys are somethin' else.

This is a game designed for FUN - perhaps for the family to play. Or to introduce a game that does NOT require much skill. You lag the ball so it is MUCH easier to learn and to play. (Aiming is much easier to learn)

I should ignore those that jump to conclusions.

I understand everyone has their right to an opinion. BUT it gets frustrating.

BTW - as always I enjoy the banter - just as long as it is in the right spirit.

All we are trying to do is to increase people playing pool - ANY pool game is good!!

"Why would the pros wanna play a game they are apparently so easily beaten at?"

Mark Griffin

What needs to happen!!!! All the negative people in the pool world need to magically disappear from this planet, maybe all go to Venus or something! Why do we bring ANY cue sports down??? I'll tell you why, because all of you are nothing but a bunch of losers! I could get into this but, no way!!! I don't believe I could get so low of level as all you people with the negative comments!!! Bottom line, it involves pool in a good way,,,, AWESOME!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! I wanna play!!!! If you don't like it, you can keep your comments to yourself!!!! It's all about promoting cue sports as a whole!!!

Wasn't there some sort of 8 ball variant that had a cup that was exactly the same but was placed in the middle of the table?

I believe the problem with pool is the current player's mentally. Why would anyone even comment on anything negatively without first giving it a try. I agree that the game looks a little like bumper pool. However, what's wrong with that? When I was a young man, bumper pool was a FUN game! The average, and below average pool players could enjoy playing it and not being a wall flower at the hall. So, I agree with the few others on here, it looks like a "fun" game and anything new and fun for the sport can only help. I think I'll buy one and see for myself. I'd enjoy playing a "Pro" in the Vegas tournament, win or lose! I'm not afraid to give it a try or play against a Pro. I hope it's fun and something my kids will like also. who knows, I may even take their money home with me. Someone is... lol!
