I just finished reading Running the Table all about Danny Basavich's hustling days. A great read and very well written ... as I neared the end I would taken another 10 chapters. So what is Basavich doing now? Is he stilll playing? He isn't listed in the first 32 of the Men's Pro Billiard Tour ABP or BCA rankings. The web site listed at the end of the book has now been taken over by a swimming pool company. Who has a bead on Kid Delicious?

I'm curious too

I always liked Danny alot, used to donate to him a bit as an early teen.

Funny that. I thought the same thing. As I neared the end, I was thinking, nooo, not end here, gimme more.

You can check Danny's Face Book page. I think his Father maintains it for the most part and there aren't a lot of updates but it will let you in on what Danny is up to lately. A little here and there, pool lessons, a little playing etc.

Brian, KickinChicken on here is friends with Danny and his old road partner so he may know a little also.

Danny is driving a cab in south jersey. Not playing pool. Danny had he the talent to compete with the best. He has a great personality. Everyone enjoyed talking to him He just couldn't get by on the money pool was paying.

He could practice up a bit and hit the road again. With the passing of time, he should be able to get played again. Shave head, add mustache he should be good. Me id recognize him just on his voice but i was surprised to learn many people cant recognize voices at all.

It would be interesting to see if he could make a come back. I think he is his mid thirties.

I would think a top player makes more than a cab driver in south Jersey.

The top 10 players can average $80 to $150K in tournament winnings but it then drops off precipitously. To the positive side that doesn't include sponsor money, side games, appearances etc. To the negative side there are a lot of travel expenses, you're away a lot, etc.

Certainly if you can reside in the top 5 tier consistently and love what you're doing I would have to believe it beats driving a cab!

I have seen a couple of interviews and a couple of matches on the net..
Great personality, and great game --- your down, your up, your down,
Life can be hard.
I don't know KID. But I wish him well.

Danny had weight problems and health problems. Is this the reason for giving up his pool career?

I think..

I would take a ride to Jersey just to take a ride with Danny. I think the fare would be more than worth it just to spend some time with him, listening to stories.

Great idea ... hey, Danny put the meter on and just go for a ride, as long as you tell me some stories!

Catahula ... I started this thread after finishing Running the Table. If you haven't read it, I would highly recommend it, plus you would save the meter price!

I can't imagine the taxi business is much more lucrative

I knew a BT in Vegas that got fired for discipline problems. He took a job driving a cab in Vegas. He gave that up and moved out of the state. He said the only way to make money driving a cab in Vegas was taking the riders to the hot spots. He got paid a finders fee for everyone dropped off. Some places gave him a percentage of what they spent. He got tired of hustling the passengers and said it was not a business he wanted to be in. There were also other business dealing that weren't on the top of the BBB list.

Don't really know Danny personally but I could see where a pool hustler would make a good cabbie.
