Best hitting cue you ever played with.

I've been playing for about 40 years. In that time, I can't count the number of production and custom cues I've owned. Honestly, as one other poster has said, the feel and hit isn't always easy to distinguish. The tip and ferrule construction seem to have a bigger influence on playability IMO. That said, my pick would come down to either a Thomas Wayne or an Andy Gilbert that I alternately use these days. I use both to break as well. If limited to one vote, put me down for Thomas Wayne. That's not to say that any of the other custom cues I've owned from numerous makers weren't very good players as well. To me, it all comes down to personal preference.

It used to be a Schön SL5 which I played with for many years. That cue is now in my case because of an Osage Orange Woodworth. I don't know if all Woodworths play like this one or if it is unique but it is a solid hitting cue.

Any Schon, all of them that I have hit so far all felt/sounded pretty much the same and unique, very distinctive, even with different tips.

Easy,,,,,,,

My 1961 Herman Rambow owned by Eddie Taylor,,,

Must be something magical about that cue as Eddie said in an interview that it was his all time best player,,,,,,,,,,,,,Alan,,,,:grin-square:

My #1 choice is a Paul Mottey cue with a piloted ivory joint out of the many cues that I've owned.

I'd have to say it was the Black Boar RS3 with ferrule-less shafts that I sold last year, so sweet. Fortunately, in my search for the holy grail of cues, I have found several others that meet my personal criteria...buncha grails, lol.

Bobby Hunter makes a great cue and was a pretty sporty pro player. I also like Mike Gulyassy's cues alot.

I found the ONE. My Black Boar AS5 refinished by Tony with a lizard wrap and ferrule less shaft. Beats all my others including TS,Zinzola,Prewitt,Phillippi,Helmstetter and Dale Perry. All hit, but nothing as sweet as the Boar

rUNDES

Several Rundes but my favorite is an old Runde schon ebony player that hit (imo) as good as any cue period

Ok, here are the rules. Hit is subjective, we all know that. But let's try anyway to compile a list of cues that we think are GREAT playing cues.

The only rule is one vote per person. So think about it and pick the one cue out of all the cues you have been able to shoot with that you would keep if you could only have one of them for the rest of your life.

Now of course you can put in a name of a cue you have never shot with just because you desire to own it and have heard it's a great playing cue but I hope that you will stick with cues that you actually had time to hit balls with for enough time to really get to know the cue.

I will start, and this is a very tough decision for me because I have owned so many great cues. Keep in mind that just because a brand is someone's #1 choice the number 2 might be real close.

But the object here is to see what sort of list we can come up with if you can only have one. I will update this post with a running list and vote count if it gets any traction. Sometime in the future I will tally the votes by brand even though there may be different "eras" and butt/shaft combinations.

My #1 pick is Jensen.

IMHO, you haven't really lived until you've played with a Thomas Wayne cue.

Oh, wait, April 1st was a few weeks back.....
:cool::grin:
