Mainly for Billy Incardona, Who should be the new generation commentary king(s)

Billy and Scott Frost together in the booth is still the best commentary I've ever seen/heard.

Hoping Bill I. sees this and comments, would really like to know who he thinks can be the next commentating monsters. Although with how many different pool videos are being done (including streaming), it's not the same as when AccuStats was the only ones.

I don't think anyone will replace Bill and Grady for me, Buddy Hall and Bill would be close though.

Like Efren said when asked "who the next Efren is"; only one Efren, only one Bill and Grady.

I like JJ's commentary. I also think Joey A. did a good enough job when he took the mic that he should be given another shot.

Scott Frost is great to have for one pocket, also Shannon Daulton is good, Freddy the Beard, Jay Helfert also very entertaining.

I don't like people that are in the booth that talk about what they did and themselves, I like to be informed of what is happening in the match.

My fav's of all time Billy and Danny DiLiberto.

Danny D definitely out for the "next generation" of commentators, he's very much from the last generation. He's knowledgeable but has days where he's kind of tiresome. Well, we all do I guess.

I like JJ and my only complaint is he doesn't joke or laugh much, he's very right-down-the-middle in his style. I know the usual setup is to have one straight man and one color guy... but the best is when both show a little color. Maybe as he gets booth experience he'll open up a little. Freezer also has potential.

Love hearing buddy hall, there aren't enough tapes with his voice. Whoever the next generation is, I vote for someone with a southern accent.

Your dream match then would be Buddy Hall and Jerry Forsyth. That would be like music to our ears!

Ill throw a new name out there. I've never heard him do commentary, and he has been away for a while but has been a topic of late. I would love to hear Kid Delicious in the booth. Great personality and tons of war stories for the slow times!!!

I have to say Jeremy Jones is a great commentator, Billy is my favorite with JJ right there. I look forward to seeing them both in the booth together sometime in the near future. Stacy Allsup is very good also, not sure how biased people are about a girl commentating but she is well spoken and knowledgeable. Certain people are tough to listen to, they might have a face for radio but do not have a voice for it. :grin-square:

Not exactly on topic, but one thing that will improve anyone's commentary is to provide them a good overhead shot of the table. There are so many times that the commentator bases his comments on the fact that X-ball will not pass into the pocket...and then the player easily shoots it in (or the converse: assumes it will pass but then the player shoots a shot to move the X-ball or the blocking ball).

One last thing: I offer to buy every commentator a pencil and paper. I'll even provide new ones for every tournament. The very least you can do for the audience is to keep score, particularly in one-pocket. I'm amazed that there are two commentators in the booth and neither one knows the score

Well I have a different take.

Billy is good, but when Billy was teamed with Grady they were great. They both agreed, argued, exchanged ideas, suggestions for players etc. IMO, this TEAM was the best I have ever heard, I learned more, better entertained, etc.

Frankly, only JoeyA, seems to be able to team up with about anyone, but he needs a regular opposite player. I like JoeyA, best of the current.

Just because someone can play, doesnt make them a great commentator, but it seems you have to a real solid background, to be at least good.

If you listen to alot of players that have got into the booth including Scott Frost, there are alot of silence. Corey Duell is TERRIBLE!

I hope the future has a new TEAM like old Grady and Billy.

Best of rolls,

Ken Strain

Agreed on all points!

Comment Partner

We all miss Grady, Billy does not have a partner in crime anymore.

Who is the next heirs apparent to the commentary throne?

Wonder who Billy would pick? I know he pops on here once in a while.

While some are still very active as players, I like Archer, Hall, Daulton, a new one for me was Mary Kinster (sp?) I liked her commentary on one of the recent streams. And Hall is probably of the "old" generation anyway, he is probably as old or older than Incardona.

And who can possibly (if anyone!) can provide the back and forth bickering that Billy and Grady went though. I LOVED some of their comments like "well you seemed to have forgotten to mail your entry fee again" "you did not, but it's inevitable that soon after the start you end up joining me in the booth anyway".

While some of the people doing the online streaming are good, it's not quite the same, there is just cold analysis of the shot, nothing much in the way of "color". Or there is pretty much 0 talk about the game and way too much about some inside joke that 10 people in the country would get.

How about Tang Hoa? Didn't we all hear his commentary during that Scott f. vs Alex P, $40K one hole match?
:)
