The pros make the game look too easy. That's why the public won't watch it. Watching all those balls go in is boring!

It's because they're playing on the same field as junior high-school kids.

So, let's:

1) Raise the basket two feet higher

2) Reduce the size of the basket

3) Increase the size of the court by 12%

Have you seen the scores at some of these NBA games? 120-114! It's just too easy! No way pros should play on the same court as a 15-year old.

It will ad excitement to the game and save the NBA.

Two questions:
1) Did you mean for this to be pool related?
2) What makes you think the NBA needs "saving". I think they are doing pretty well.

He may have been referring to those that think a 9 footer with 4.5 inch pockets is too easy for pros to play on and want 10 footers with 4.25 inch pockets.

To make the annalogy work though, you'd have to have the pros play races to 25 in each tournament vs. 5-9 for the amateur and mid level events.

I was wondering if that's what he meant. He just doesn't mention anything about pool so it made me curious.

Assuming you were sarcastically referencing pool ...

1) Doesn't apply.

2) Pool halls with tighter pockets just discourage and annoy patrons.

3) Bigger tables cost the room owner more square footage. It doesn't sell but everyone, "wants to play like the pros do" until they face that bigger table, then #2 kicks in.

10 Ball on 10 ft. Tables Race to 15 Single Elimination

I was at Tunica last summer. It was fun to watch. I was also at the Derby this year, and it wasn't near as good because of the location of the 10 foot tables and the limited seating. I was really disapointed at the Derby because I thought it would be better for spectators than Tunica, but it was worse. I don't know what size pockets they were playing on, but this format is fun to watch because you have more strategy involved.
 
just a thought.... To start off a TV show, about Pool or Billiards, introduce the audience to some beginner pool players ( 4 Speeds) that are competing for $500 a game, race to 3.

After "The Intro" is over The "The Show" starts, folks will understand that Pool & Billiards is NOT easy to play.

I disagree with you 100%, pool being easy has nothing to do with why public don't watch it, for instance, if you look at snooker. Ronnie O'sullivan makes the game look super easy, yet the people love to watch him play, as a matter of fact he has notably the highest viewing rate in the history of snooker, because of his character and how easy he makes the game look.

There are many reasons why public don't watch pool, one comes to mind is the character of some of the players, they make it look so boring, and unwatchable, specially in the eyes of a person who don't play pool, put Ralf souqet in a streaming match and get one of your family members to watch (One that don't play pool), I bet he/she don't last longer than 5mins watching. Same thing applies in snooker with Ebdon, the viewing rate decreases 50% when he plays. It's a matter of characters and personalities which will increase viewing rates, or decreases them. I know some people would disagree and they're all into just playing by itself, but what I am saying is true. ESPN said it before, they stated if we had in pool characters such as Earl Strickland, Sigel, Efren Reyes now adays the viewing rate will increase a lot, and ESPN will cover more matches, but we lack in the players department, most of them are boring to watch.

My 2 cents.

Really gambling in pool like online or vegas etc.....lol that should be in the funny joke thread. I'll just say this....if the NBA got paid peanuts, they'd all be for sale. Hell there's still point shaving inquiries and these guys make a ton of money.

What exactly do you think broke pool players will do? Human nature will be to get the money while you can, and that's exactly what they'd do.

They been fixing games since Moses wore short pants, theyre going to stop now ? I wonder how many horse races get fixed yearly even with all the safe guards they supposedly have ?
 
My apologies that my satire was not obvious.

All I was saying is that pool doesn't need to change the size of the table or pockets anymore than basketball needs to change the hoop/court size. That's not the problem...in fact it only adds to the problem as pool halls and home-players feel they need to spend another $8,000 just to remain at a "pro" equipment level. Eventually people become less enthusiastic about the game when they feel the industry is jerking them around.
 
Completely agree with you. I understood the satire from the first read.

Pool needs to be exciting; this means lots of big shots, fast shot clock, and no overly tight pockets.
