It's official Strickland Vs SVB Bar Box 8,9 & 10-Ball

I would like the AZB community as involved as possiblke with this event and and will from time to time as you guy's opinion.
Here is a start. Alternating break or not? What are the pros and cons to this?

I think on a BB and with both players having about the same amount of fans watching on the PPV that alternating break give both players the same amount of air time on the break. Johnnyt

Correct, but will the paid viewers be okay with that? I suspect some will, but not all.
I know that recently TAR has been playing 2 days with an option of possibly three days. I guess this would be a little different as TAR gives people the choice to buy the final day. I also have a gate of spectators who will be buying for the weekend too. Again, I am going to look into it. and maybe make people aware that it may only go for two and a half of the session. As RJ said though, if its ove its over.

Earl beat Shane when they played on a TAR mach on a 10 foot table, then Shane won the TAR match on a 9 foot table and so it only makes sense to play the "Decider" on bar table with a mix a different games.
Keeping it straight, the first time they played a race to 100 on a 9ft, Shane won 100 - 60, then they played on the gaffy 10ft, Earl won. Then they played at the TAR studio, Shane won. So this will be the fourth match up, with Shane being up 2 - 1 over Earl in match ups. ;)

Didn't they match up at Steinway's in Brooklyn not to long ago and Earl won? Johnnyt

I think you need to change the rule as it could end in disaster. For instance, what are you going to charge for day 3 if it ends up lasting 4 games?

Re a possible blowout... One solution is whatever your total prize fund is, distribute it 70% to most total games won, 10% 8 ball set, 10% 9 ball set, 10% 10 ball set. This way all games and all sets count.

Winner Breaks!

Make it exciting, play winner breaks!, in my OP alternate breaks has ruined the fan base for pool in America anyway, we want to see some packages put up like the old days!

Alt. break is definitely needed on a bar box. You don't want a complete blowout. Keep it close and interesting that way Earl will be Earl and put on the show. Almost every major bar box event is alt. break anyhow. And since this is somewhat like TAR, AccuStats and not a gambling event and more of an exhibition match it makes sense to keep em close.

It's awesome that you can get this done cheap for a lot of people to watch, even if its not the greatest stream you can sweat it cheap for many more people. Nothing against the others, I watch em all, but a lot of folks do not..

Thanks for getting this done. I did not like it that Earl was being shut out by TAR but I am not privy to all of the business details to which Justin mentioned.

I like the total rack count thing but I think it would be good to have something for each set too.

How about a Diamond Bar Box?

Thanks again & the Best of Luck with it.

Hey Joe, I can't promise it will be cheap or should I say inexpensive :) There are alot of things involved in making it happen and fees to be paid to one person or another. However I will tell you that at the very least this will be in the normal price range for a weekend event with two stars of the game. We are trying to see where we can cut costs to bring the price down as much as possible. Again, I can't promise anything at this point but hope to have a pricepoint next week. Thanks for your support and all of the other AZErs,, I would like to do more of these but we do need the support of the pool community.

Hi ENGLISH, Just a couple of things that you maybe are not aware of and that I would like to figure out ASAP. Diamond tables are few and far between in this area of the country believe it or not, but I would like to have a diamond for this event I am just not sure how realistic it is due to the cost of getting it there and set up and broke down. We shall see on that.

I agree on the rack count and the per set prize fund. I have already told these guys what the prize fund is and unless I get more money to add it may be hard to do that. Again we shall see.

I now it seems like I do not have alot of answers at this point to details and that is maybe my fault for bringing this to the forefront without having all the ducks in a row. But to be honest I was just too darned excited to keep this to myself. There are a few details to be decided upon but there is time. The fact of the matter is there is a $5,000 prize fund, Shane and Earl are both 100% commited to the event and we know the dates. Its gonna happen and everyone will be paid as they always have been from any Legends and Champions Event we have done. Hopefully I will be able to give everyone more info as we get things closer. Thanks for all of your support and hopefully you will spread the word among your social media friends, pool leagues and just pool playing buddies. I want to do more of these.

A couple of people have mentioned about TAR's boycott of Earl. The people so far that have mentioned it I respect their opinions and respect them as people and AZErs. I do have to say that TAR's "Boycott" of Earl is no different that Matchrooms unwillingness to work with him. I have known Earl for several years and I have worked very closley with him. Earl admitts the fact that he has a problem not going on tilt sometimes. It does not matter the reason he just does. This on the fans/viewer side can be a source of amusement or frustration. The behind the scenes and the pain in the ass that this can cause is sometimes just not worth it for some people. I regard Earl as a friend of mine although its hard sometimes as some of his friends will tell you, but he does have a good side. I do not blame TAR or anyone else for a boycott he can be tough action to fade but he will tel you that himself too. TAR are good people and have their principles to basically not F-around and just get the job done. They give alot of players an opportunity to make money with no risk. Therefore they should be treated with respect and as professionals that they are. If ANYONE decides to do otherwise they have the right to move on as most of us would. Just plain principals. Saying that I am not sure that Earl would want to work with TAR again even if they asked him. For whatever reason it didn't work for either party. So just wanted to put that out there.

Thanks for the insight etc.

I just respect Earl as a competitor & for the playing career that he has had as well as his wealth of knowledge regarding the game.
I am gald that another opportunity exsists for his playing ability to be on display again against the likes of SVB.

I did not mean to suggest that anyone was doing anything wrong reguarding Earl. Everyone has the right to make their own determinations.

I don't know but I would think Diamond would be willing to provide the table for a little advertising mention & for the chance to be associated with this type of match.

Good Luck with event.

Each day should be considered a separate match and it should be alternating break.

Somebody on this board quoted Allen Hopkins in another thread about alternating break. Hopkins perspective was that winner break is absurd when compared with other sports- such as make it take it (also known as winner's outs) in basketball, or keeping the ball after a touchdown, or serving in tennis until you are broken.

ENGLISH, I hope I didn't come across wrong. I was not reffering to you or anoine else for that matter but it had been mentioned before about Earls's relationship with TAR and so I just wanted all to know where I stand on that issue. I have alot of respect for justin and TAR for what they do and I didn't want anyone to think that I was trying to compete with TAR on this deal.
English I appreciate your support as always.

good to see you putting together another show, i remember when it was all talk a few years back,i knew then you were going to make things happen, i was in the car going to Derby or JOB's when we first spoke, then many times again, you did it man!!!! Good job, i wish you the best.

and IMO your not competing wth TAR, Accustats, BB, or anyone else putting on a show, Lord knows the players need the paydays and the fans are buying the shows, whats wrong with that? Nobody is squeezing anyone out of the market.

From one biz man to another, your relationship with the talent(players) is the most important thing you can have, if they like you and your fair with the $$$ they will be there for you. Thats how to succeed in this biz, you have their repect the rest falls into place. I'm sure you know that, just reaffirming what you know. the promoters that burned the players dont get a 2nd chance.

best of luck mate,

eric
