why do they say new meucci cues arent good?

This is good advice. However, that's not to say that a cursive-lettered Meucci logo'ed cue is complete firewood. They CAN be made into good cues.

I have a Meucci 97-11 that Ryan Theewen (of RAT cues, and Mueller's cue repair service) rebuilt for me, because the handle area was warped. Ryan basically cut the complete handle area out of the cue, bored-out the center of both the forearm and the remaining section of the butt, and re-cored it with a properly-seasoned 1-piece section of maple. He reassembled/glued the cue back together, sanded, and refinished it (to include a better version of clear coat). I also had him fit an OB Classic Pro blank with the matching ringwork to that same Meucci 97-11.

So pretty much they're a good cue as long as you basically replace the entire cue
except for like the logo and the buttcap :)

I had bought a used meucci 97-21 butt off AZB and custom ordered an ob classic shaft with matching collar from budgetcues.com Just got the shaft in yesterday.

Might go try it out in a little bit.

To put it simply: junk. If you're in the market for a production cue churned out by a factory you can do MUCH better in quality from other production brands and for most likely better prices to boot.

What never ceases to amaze me about threads like this though are the prices people pay for one-of-a-zillion factory cues of shaky build qualitys. Especially considering you could have a full custom for less in many cases. $800 for a meucci? Good lord.

And for the "well the style of custom i want costs too much" sorts: are you out to use something that plays well and is functional, or something that just looks cool, quality be damned? If its the former, get a simple full custom sneaky pete and it will play better than anything from a factory. If its the latter...congrats, you're a poser.

I've owned several meuccis and still have my 95-7 that was made twenty years ago. I've researched meuccis some and here is what I found out. If buying an old one, make sure it at least has a red dot shaft, but a pre dot shaft is best. If it has a black dot, just keep going. Don't even give it a second look. Not to say the black dot shaft isn't nice, I have one and like it, but that makes it newer and the quality of the butt is much lower. The old ones were made solid and well balanced but the new ones are about 50% plastic and WILL fall apart.

To the OP, send the meucci back. Don't even open the box. Go get that lucasi from BW.

warranty

did you send them back? did they turn you away?

Yes, Yes.....

I am sorry, but I am not a fan of any meucci cues that are newer then the red dot.
I dont have much good to say about the last 3 meucci cues I bought.
I posted a picture of 1 of the last 3 cues I bought that fell apart.
2 of the cues were sold to close friends.
All 3 cues did the same thing..........
As you can tell I am not real happy about this subject.

first of all did I ask what cue to buy? no I think not I asked what you'll as a community thought of them. I'm not getting charged an arm and a leg by any means list price for the one I want and am getting is $535 take a little less than $200 off that price. still not a bad price. I probably will have nice cue. with no coating over the wrap. so nothing to bubble and I like the feel of the irish linen. don't come and bash someone for asking a question. that's exactly why people leave forums.

Don't be so hostile. As a new member, it's hard for youto understand the "hatred" for Meucci's. If you think it looks nice and think it plays well, then by all means, buy it. Take all of this as everyone's opinion, which it is.

If I were paying $500+ for a cue, Meucci wouldn't even be on my list.
If I were paying $300+ for a cue, Meucci still wouldn't be on my list.

Valleys are just as good as about anything out there. People want something flashy in most cases or something that fits their personality.

<-- Just sold my Pechauer and Joss to friends.

Funny! Honestly though, the only thing outright wrong with this particular cue was the handle area was warped. I (or anyone) could visually see the warp by putting sighting down either the butt cap or forearm area, even without a shaft attached.

Since I had the cue in Ryan's shop -- a specialized Meucci repair depot -- I figgered "oh what the hell?" and splurged on getting my preferred shaft fitted to it with the matching ringwork. Nothing wrong with the original shaft -- I still have it -- it's just that I like the OB Classic Pro better.

So yes, in my case, I replaced everything but the forearm and the butt area behind the handle. ;)

I should have quoted who that was directed towards. I'm on my phone and I guess I missed the button it was toward someone that was being rude about it. you'll I respect the answers I'm getting. and most of the members I just sometimes get worked up when someone is being rude and making fun of others.

You're upset because you aren't liking the answers you are receiving.

You made a purchase decision, and are trying to get people to post validation for that decision. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened. Instead of becoming hostile, why not take the opinions offered in good faith, because YOU asked people's opinions of a product?

It's like saying "guys i'm marrying the town tramp. Is this a good idea?" then getting mad at the answers. This is a posting forum, not a support group. Ask for opinions and you will get them, and not sugarcoated.

P.s. for $300 you're still getting robbed. You never know though, maybe you'll get lucky. I once knew a guy who got 150k miles out of a $250 Yugo car, so you never know.

has anyone bought one in the past year and had a problem with them?

I've been shooting with mine now for a couple of years, Meucci gem 3, and have had no problems at all. I ordered mine with a Z2 predator shaft and Kamuii med black tip.

I bought it mostly for the design but it's the best stick I've ever had to play with. Lucky or not, I'm very happy with it. I'm not a collector and doubt I'll buy another cue for quite some time. I play at home and it's good enough for me.

If you have already bought the cue I wouldn't worry about what we think. Try it out for yourself and form your own opinion. You may find out that you absolutely love the cue, and if so GREAT go enjoy it and to hell with whatever anyone else thinks.

As for me I will stick with my Custom Cameron and my production Joss.

Moochi built good cues years ago, they kinda fell off the past few years. not sure why, the old ones had a "Whip" to them,

that's exactly what I'm going to do I just wanted to see why people said that about them and why and what to look for in mine when it gets here

I like the Meucci cue design, but I had a cue with a horrible finish and with a crack in a cocobolo point. However the cue plays good, but for me is a bit too whippy.
I'll never by a Meucci cue again.

also some of the "old guys" down here use newer ones and didn't say anything about having a problem with them at all. one of them was using his meucci over his custom lacasi so there must be some good ones out there

I have a 95-9 model that I got for my 12th birthday. It's always been a really good cue and I've never had the troubles with it that others say they have had with Meuccis other than the character that comes with an almost 20 year old cue that got heavy use. Eventually the shaft did develop a slight warp, but I blame myself for leaving it in car trunks etc during my college years. I play with a Pechauer now and love it, but I still have a softspot for the old Meucci.
