Ultra skin tip problem?

I played for the first time today with a new medium just installed. Now this is not my first one. In fact I have a soft on my second shaft and its fine.
after miscuing several times which i thought was just because it was new i took a good look at it.
Now when I put my finger nail on the side of the tip I could raise it up a bit. I think I got a mushy one.
Anybody else have this happen with other tips?

For what it is worth, I had mediums installed on two shafts a few months ago. I primarily play with just the one shaft, and have had zero issues. Love the tip.

Have you pinged Tom? I am sure he will take care of it.

I've not had any problems with my Ultraskins tips...

I have a soft on one cue shaft and a medium on another for a different cue. I like the soft but prefer the medium more because I like it better.

I recently took another shaft for a different cue to get the hard installed but haven't made it to the table to give it a try. I'm planning to go tomorrow so I can see how the ultraskin hard feels in comparison to the Medium which I really like.

If any of you currently play or have played with the Ultraskin Hard tip, please post your thoughts on this tip.

Thanks,

-Muziq

I haven't had any problems,

MMike

You maybe got a bad one Bruce. I have had a few different brands accordion on me like that.

It could be the tip itself or the installer used a dull blade cutting from the ferrule outward on the final cut.

Correct.
Regardless of the cause, Tom Hay will make it right.
My money is on the installer inadvertently running a blade up under a layer, pulling it loose.

That too Tramp. Tom is more than fair and will make it up to you Bruce if you contact him.

I have installed many in the last while since Tom introduced these. I use a right handed cutting tool to trim them down close to the ferrule and will use a blade to trim the tip outward on its final cut. I use carbide tipped blades.

Even the ones that I have cut with just a blade have come off with nice long ribbons of leather.

But, like I mentioned, you can get the odd bad tip in any brand that you buy. I've had Elk Masters to Snipers do this on me.

Bruce if you need a replacement tip in a hurry and pm me your address .
Tom has done me some favors, and I don't mind .

I've tried a couple and in my opinion they are OK and you get what you pay for but I have to laugh a little when people compare them to kamui tips...IMO there is a reason kamuis cost more its because they are better. Regardless if they are 10 bucks or so more than an ultra skin your getting what you pay for... It's like comparing a Hyundai sonata with an E class Benz... And we're talking about 10-12 bucks or so not thousands of dollars.

Thanks for the offer. My tip guys has bags of tips.If I replace this one maybe I will go with a moori or Kamui.
I usually just get the cheapest.

Great tips and never had any problem with any of those. The others I know they put them, are satisfied as well.

I think that the mediums are too hard for you anyway
Stay away from Moori, remember my 4-Cog shafts that had new Moori mediums.
Go back to the UltraSkin soft, or now that you're all pumped up go for a Kamui black

You may be 100% correct, but as an installer and player I swear I can't tell any difference in the two. They both cut down the same, shape the same and (to me) play the same. I'm not biased... neither one of them is my favorite tip.

Zero issues here with my medium. I'm not buying into the Kamui hype when I get the same thing from UltraSkins

The only problem I've seen on my shafts is one Ultra-skin med on one shaft
plays superb but the very top layer at the peak of the tip looks like its
coming off.I could probably put my fingernail under it and rip it off but thought
it might fall off by itself.I've had other type of tips do this also and never
understood why?

Agreed

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.. I've keep my mouth shut about this for a long time now as I've read so many people comparing them to Black Kamui's...
Ive tried them several times now, and I'm NOT saying they're not a quality tip, but in no way, outside of the color of them, do they play like a Black Kamui.. I bought some because of so many people saying that they play like a Black Kamui, but they don't. A better comparison IMO would be to an Onyx, or a Blackheart. All good tips, but Black Kamui's play much much different than the other 3 mentioned..

I think anytime you have a hot tip on the market anything that comes after it is going to always be compared to it... Everything used to be the new medium moori....

I'll toss an Outsville Ki-Tech soft out as a similar tip to the kamui black super soft but it's a single layered tip so it won't be exactly the same but being a treated leather it has similar characteristics.....

I said similar and I have several old Kamui black SS users converted and I don't think it's based on the price difference only but who knows...

I always say find what works for you and stays working for you... The Ki-Techs were an effort to create tips that stayed consistent for several months and hopefully thru their life cycle....

I keep testing tips on my own cues and on customers cues and they seem to be holding up way better than any of the layered tips I have tested.. They resist hardening and mushrooming so if you find out one of our soft medium or hards suits you I think you remove the variable associated with wear. You can also expect the next tip to be pretty much dead on where your last one was when you finally do manage to wear it out......

absolutely correct. Since Moori tips are the first layered tips ever, they have become a standard to be compared to. Kamui tips have become popular and are another means of comparison.

To me, UltraSkin tips are not the same as Kamui of course, because I feel UltraSkins are better. They hold chalk well and never glaze.
