Need consultation about purchasing a cue

No. I think you can find a used custom cue or something of better quality for $200. Make a post here with your budget and requirements and see what people have to offer.

It's all about preference.

My experience with a Shmelke was the diameter of the handle was small for me. Made a nice cue around the snooker table but for league play I enjoyed McDermott. For the money you'll be hard pressed to find a better made cue. Used cue may offer more. Good Luck!

Try some sticks before you buy

Schmelke cues aren't garbage. I picked one up at http://www.shootersbilliards.com with a leather spiral wrap.

The important questions are:

Why are you looking at this specific pool cue? Have you shot with one? Like it just because of the sneaky look?

Custom cues can be great buys but without trying it before you buy it it's a total shot in the dark.

Just my personal opinion, but I wouldn't spend a penny "upgrading" to an Everest tip.

Whatever comes standard on the cue can't me much worse.

I am interested in this cue http://www.billiardwarehouse.com/cues/schmelke/schmelke_r40-birdseye.htm

With Tiger Everest tip upgrade it will cost close to $200.

What do you guys think, does this cue qualify for the best cue for this much money in terms of quality and performance?

Thanks!

You would be wiser getting a Cuetec R360.

The R360 is their LD laminated shaft. Bare wood not the coated stuff of old ! Hits very good.

got a link for ya.

http://www.seyberts.com/catalog/Cuetec_Cues-135.html

free shipping and earn az-bucks for future purchase !

BUT only buy R360 !!!

other cuetec's are not as good.

SVB uses it. They sponser him.

About the same in price and imo it hits great.

You like it...it appeals to you...buy it. Take care of it and it'll last for years.
BilliardWareHouse might have a return or exchange policy if you do not like it. The stock tip should be fine but the upgrade will give you free shipping. So WTH.

As far a CueTecs go. They are awesome. Especially the SST bonded. They are good players and will last a lifetime.

I'd try to find $50 and buy one of the Joss's for sale by DJordan or Devorator. They're both fantastic cues and if you take care of it, you could easily get your money back if you decide to sell it. I think that's important to consider. You'd be lucky to get $125 for the Schmelke one month after you purchased it.

I would never recommend that cue to anyone. It's just a cheap sneaky pete. If you are going to spend that much, you can get a Joss cue or Dale Perry for less money and they are better cues.

Hi,

Schmelke.com is a reputable company and produces good cues. I would always suggest playing with a cue before you buy into one, but I know that is not always possible. You have limited options for getting a decent cue for under $200. No matter what you buy it probably won't go up much in value and if you take care of it you can usually find someone to give you a hundred or so for a cue that plays ok. The only thing I would look into is a cue with Phenolic collars. I have seen cues that are wood to wood split at the joint.

Good luck with your search!

Looking at the picture, I don't think this sneaky is full splice. On my monitor, it appears to have a separate handle (notice how the point grain doesn't line up with the handle grain). If you get a sneaky, I would think you would want a quality full splice cue. I don't quite understand why they would build it this way except possible to make the points easier to align and to keep this price level. Compare that cue to this one, for example: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=157562

Personally I would rather pay up (to say $350) and get a really nice quality sneaky (like a Frye) you can keep your entire life.

I found that pechauer makes great hitting cues, but I do agree with spending a bit more on a custom sneaky. I spent around 400$ on a fancy sneaky with custom jp/s and couldn't be happier. Although if I didn't do the custom I would have gotten the pechauer sneaky

Well, here's my experience with it:

I've wanted to really try out a wrapless cue for years, but never had the cash or motivation to do so until a couple of months ago. It needed to be 60" and cheap, so my research led me to an older thread here, which ultimately helped me pull the trigger on the purchase. (Can't post links yet, but you can just type "schmelke sneaky azbilliards" into google to find it. It should be a thread from 2007)

Those pesky extra two inches crossed a lot of desirable cues off of my list. You won't have that factor limiting your options, so you have many high quality cues to choose from. Just make sure to do your research, look around for AZB threads on the cues you're interested in.

Anyway, my cue was a custom order through BW, for a 60" cocobolo sneaky. (They even did a Hoppe ring when I requested it, which was an unexpected pleasant surprise.) I got it with the 3/8x10 joint. The cue arrived in just under 4 weeks. I can PM or e-mail you some photos if it'll help make your decision easier.

After getting a milk dud installed, it's has become my main cue. I'm a convert, wrapless from here on out. However, the unfortunate casualty of this little experiment is my trusty old Al Romero player. Every time I look at it now, all I can think about is how much I regret requesting a wrap on it.

The cue they made for me is definitely a full splice. Perhaps the BW photo is an MS Paint mashup of two separate pictures? Also to touch on what you said after that, a sneaky from Mr. Frey is on my personal wish list. I tried one out a few weeks ago and it hit all the right notes. (Well, except for the length.) If I can get one of his cues in 60", I'm pretty sure that would end my search for the perfect player. Hopefully it won't take as long this time to save up for one.

hi

I had Viking, McDermott, Mezz, Fury and Schmelke (one piece), Keith Josey.. played with Joss and Predator for few weeks.

Out of all the best experience I had with Mezz, however, its out of my budget..

Schemelke one piece cue that I had was very good, thats why I am considering that brand again.
