What just happened between Shane & JJ on TAR stream?

No Mas?

What happened to the competitive spirit? JJ was totally in the match when he decided to forfeit. You can't always get all the rolls when it comes to officiating a match. So what if Shane got the roll in a decision. You just don't throw in the towel and quit its just not right and it is unfair to your fans. I have seen other pro's quit matches in the middle and I have taken them off my list of watchable matches. If you are not a player that can come back from the brink of defeat, you are simply not worthy of my support.

Bert Gordon: I don't think there's a pool player alive shoots better pool than I saw you shoot the other night at Ames. You got talent.

"Fast" Eddie Felson: So I got talent. So what beat me?

Bert Gordon: Character.

"Fast" Eddie Felson: [laughs] Yeah. Sure, sure.

Bert Gordon: You're damned right I'm sure. Everybody's got talent. I got talent. You think you can play big-money straight pool, or poker, for forty straight hours on nothing but talent? You think they call Minnesota Fats the best in the country just 'cause he's got talent? Nah. Minnesota Fats's got more character in one finger than you got in your whole skinny body.

Bert Gordon: Eddie, you’re a born loser.

"Fast" Eddie Felson―What’s that supposed to mean?

Bert Gordon―First time in ten years I ever saw Minnesota Fats hooked, really hooked. But you let him off.

"Fast" Eddie Felson―I told you. I got drunk.

Bert Gordon―Sure, you got drunk. That’s the best excuse in the world for losing. No trouble losing when you got a good excuse. And winning! That can be heavy on your back too. Like a monkey. You drop that load too when you got an excuse. All you gotta do is learn to feel sorry for yourself. It’s one of the best indoor sports: feeling sorry for yourself — a sport enjoyed by all, especially the born losers.

Couldn't resist.

Pool has went to shiit.
No one should be cleaning any balls during a game, these prima Donna pros are all ridiculous.

I love when I run events, cause I won't tolerate their B.S, none of them. I recall at the recent bigtyme classic a guy thought he got special treatment, he was one of the higher Calcutta guys bought, I had to forfeit him while he's jackin around in the parking lot.

And the frozen ball rule when you shoot thru it. Come on, that rules meant for league players, its an obvious foul, pros should never be using this rule in a pro event. Such a BS rule.

Say what?? Looks like someone needs to do a little research on the shot.

Did you have him in the Calcutta?

It sure feels like to me the tip CAN stay on the CB a little long - pushing or double hitting. Are you of the belief Neil that stroking through the CB - straight through the OB - is:

100% not going to foul (barring a crappy stroke)?

KK9 <-- has watched Dr Dave's 800 frames per second videos. Just saying I'm not sure a pro, open, A,B or D player is guaranteed of it. And not sure that the rule, as written acquiesces to give "the tie to the shooter". I think it may be one of those too close to call with the human eye rules. No easy answer IMO...

The problem was not with cleaning the ball. Shane asked if it could be rotated so that the scuff mark was not at the point of contact. Jeremy said that you can't ask that a ball be spun. You can ask if it can be cleaned, but not rotated.

Kenny came to the table and I don't know if he was asked to clean the ball or rotate the ball, but he did not have a ball marker with him and rotated the ball. That was enough for Jeremy and he unscrewed.

I believe he has asked to be forfeited out of the event and wants his money back for the 8-ball event.

Mike

JJ has been wired a little tight for a while.
i do';t blame him for wanting our now though!

no, they had time for another move!

I had only 1/4 of 2 people in the Calcutta at the bigtyme event and no I did not have the guy.
But if I did he would of still been forfeited, I don't ever play favorites at my tourneys, I don't care if a guy sells for 5k, he gets the same treatment as a $20 player.

Since your insinuating something you need look no further then the new Iberia pro/am 2 years ago, I had 100% of Jeremy Jones and I played him in the final 16 of the winners side, I had 50% of myself. I proceeded to beat him 7 to 2. I don't play that homie.

Using a normal stroke, you are 100% not going to foul anymore than you would just hitting the cb. I know it seems "weird", but as far as the tip knows, there is only one heavy ball there, not two.

edit: That's why it's allowed in the WPA rules.

Imagine you are playing in a big tournament and you are in the middle of running out and you come across a shot where the object ball has a giant chalk mark right where the contact point should be and you know the ball is likely going to skid on you and possibly cost you the match. Wouldn't you want to be able to ask the referee to clean and replace the ball for you?

That's the way it's done in other cue sports, such as snooker or 3-cushion, and that's how it should be in pool, too.

I dont think I have ever seen an object ball asked to be cleaned due to normal conditions while in a match. I have for the cueball. I have always found it a bit odd.

JJ was clearly upset about the frozen ball shot which I think was a foul. He wanted some clarification and I think felt the TD or ref gave SvB the advantage.

He also commented after the ref nonchalantly rotated the ball that it was the SvB tourney.

"dirty pool"

Isn't it interesting how "cleaning" the balls is a "dirty" move?

I think they should encourage "dirty pool".
