BB players Paid !

This is great news , about the players getting payed...(bump it up so all the Bonus Ball supports and everyone else here will know!!!)

The WPBL and Bonus Ball is a chance to move Pro Pool to the level of a true sport, and not withstanding the vocal few that come even to this good news thread for BB and try to make it sound bad...us Bonus Ball supports are squarely behind the game and the vision that can move Pro Pool, and hopefully the entire Pool/Billiards industry, to the next level of win-win success for everyone involved....

Dream on , BB or any other pool game will ever be a top tier sport , it's light yrs away from even a 3rd tier sport like Bowling , Some people just have a hard time understanding pool in not a good spectator sport even in its hey day with CJ and the boys it got less viewers than a popular video gets
That being when espn was looking to fill air times , hardly the case now
It is what it is

The smart money will listen to Jay H and JCIN.They have proven to know the pool world in and out, know the business world and always been a positive force for pool and it's players.

Who show pictures of checks that might be distributed perhaps on Monday (might be distributed-wow). The check numbers are fairly low so it look like a new account to me. What does it mean, why does the Freezer have everybody's checks. Here is a big guess, wait for it --The Freezer is the new money behind BB. Perhaps Billy Incardona is in on it with Scott. Just maybe they are firing the cash they beat Dippy Dave out of at BB. I don't know this is a crazy guess on my part. Why else would the Freezer have other peoples check. The rumors are never ending. This is another scene from the ongoing drama concerning bonus ball for both the players and the company. The road appears to be fairly long and fraught with peril. What will happen I sure do not know, Fatboy is positive on BB at least upbeat, JCIN is more pessimistic, The Freezer loves the game maybe he wants to own it. some hope BB goes, others hate BB and all things BB. For now BB is in limbo while AZ watches filled with wonder. If the rest of the world had a clue the drama would surely draw an audience.Wow BB you should be selling commercials to the halftime show. Good luck BB players and company.

I dont see anywhere where it says Scott is holding or has those checks-

and im fairly certain Scott lost the Dippy money within a week while staying in the Whale Suite at the Vdara. That angle is beyond preposterous.

By this logic, they shouldn't play in tournaments with big purses, lest they get a 1099.

How often do those tournaments actually generate 1099's? I'm genuienly curious, as I would think it is a rarity. Perhaps the biggest tournies do, for the top finishers, and maybe they don't.

All I'm suggesting is that I bet many of these players aren't planning for what's gonna come ahead at tax time. If you wanna tell me they all get 1099's on a regular basis, then my concern is misplaced.

When I was a young man, I had a steady gig dj'ing at a place. All of a sudden the place started generating 1099's for me, and it was a rude surprise the next year. And I wasn't getting $1k a week, either.

Do many tournies issue 1099's?

A pool player Bud of mine was in a Bass Pro shop in Springfield MS a while ago where he met a Pro Fly fisherman that had a sponsor.

He told my friend that he makes around a Million a year fishing. Now, take that as a story or whatever but pretty crazy when a person can make that much fishing, if true. You can
believe it or not.

A lot of large companies involved in fishing and outdoor equipment are vying for these guys.

There is maybe a bit of fish hustling or gambling going on behind the scene too. Never know.

Name a player that can make anywhere close to that with a sponsor and playing tourneys.

I love fishing and caught a lot this last week on holidays but came to the conclusion that my pool stroke is 100 times better than my casting.

Me not getting any sponsors any time soon. But OMG, those fresh Walleye were so good on a camping pan over an open fire. Might have had something to do with the Beer Batter I made.

Well I will look at the glass and think that it is half full.

I hope it works out for the guys on Bonus Ball.

So many seem to WANT it to fail. I hope it works out and it does make it.

My heart hopes it does make it.

My head says it probably wont.

Good luck guys.

Best of rolls,

Ken

I agree. I don't understand why so many people seem to want Bonus Ball to fail. I can fully understand why people would be skeptical, but why not wish them well? I think it is an entertaining game to watch and it would be nice if these guys could make a decent living.

I think pretty much everyone wants the best for the players, despite any of us commenting on the state of BB.

Just because I don't think its gonna work doesn't mean I want it to fail.

Do we all need to put this disclaimer in every post we make concerning BB?

No, but I didn't see it from the posts.

I think a lot of Schadenfreude.

I'll admit that I don't know, either. But casinos issue 1099s for wins over a certain amount ($1000 or so). If I run a business and have revenue coming in, you can be damn sure I'm going to properly account for my expenses, including contractors hired and prizes paid. The alternative is to pay taxes on "profits" that are just revenue, not profit.

Of course, with tournaments, there's always the chance that the entry fees never make it onto the books as revenue (they just sit with the tourney director) and so a 1099 wouldn't be needed to account for the costs. Still, I'm not an attorney or an accountant, but I think that if you're putting out flyers re: guaranteed payouts and added money using figures over $1,000, it would be very wise to play it straight and narrow with the IRS. YMMV.

It would be impolite to ask those who run other events that pay out $1000s in prize money to pool players how they handle taxes and 1099s, so I won't ask.

I'm sorry, I try to stay unemotional, objective and positive on this forum. I respect the views and opinions of all the AZB members and posters. With that caveat, I ask the question (that has already been asked in this thread).

Why the hell are we celebrating the fact that players got paid from a professional organization?! That is ludicrous and speaks unfortunate volumes about our billiard professionals. These guys are pros. They should be compensated fairly and timely for their tournaments and/or professional engagements and contracts as per agreed upon terms. There is no other sport that I can think of where we applaud the fact that a player is compensated by their organization as per their agreement. It is to be expected - as is the case with any other business. You provide a service, you are compensated for that service. If players don't play, sponsors don't pay, fans don't pay to attend tournaments, fans do not purchase PPV. Let's not applaud the fact that our pros got paid - I argue we should be angry that we have to applaud such a thing.

My views & opinions.
