Cheap Action is Better than No Action in Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas

playing with guys like Buddy Hall and Omaha John when I was a kid

Wish I lived in Texas, it'd be worth spending a few shekels to improve my game. Notice I didn't say gamble because the game would be too lopsided to be considered gambling.

But I really love your idea. It's great for the game in my opinion. It would be nice if any Jersey pros would pick up on the idea. Hint, hint.

It's fun to play the game where there's pressure, but no one's going to "take a bath".. Back in the 80s I played a LOT of $10/20 pool and this was going on all over the country. When I came back a few years ago either players wanted to bet really high, or not gamble at all. This leads to no one playing at all. Golfers play for $5 a hole, and this leads to regular games at the Country Club that would otherwise not exist.

If you come through Texas give me a call, It would be fun. I remember playing with guys like Buddy Hall and Omaha John when I was a kid and we'd always play for something cheap, even dinner was a good bet to get the competitive drive.

Those were some of the best learning experiences I remember, and we were still in the mode to help each other so if we did get a high dollar match we could both be in stroke.

I would jump at this if I lived there. Of course, might not be so fun once I lost 20 in a row!

I'll play 9 Ball or 10 Ball for $10 a game or One Pocket for $12.50 if anyone's interested in sharpening their skills in the DFW area. There's nothing like competition, and playing better players is always what did me the most good. (If only Bustemante, Efren or Rodney Morris lived in Dallas my game would be much, much sharper). ;)

Pool is one of the few games/sports I've seen where players are discouraged from getting better. I guess the team captains don't want their team averages to go up, however, isn't that what life's all about......improving and developing?

I would like to see Dallas/Ft. Worth have the greatest teams/players in the country and I'm willing to help anyone that's interested. www.thegameistheteacher.com

Enjoy your weekend everyone, my email is thegameistheteacher@gmail.com if anyone wants private or group instruction.....I have some specials going on and can work with anyone's budget that really wants to improve. Aloha

Apparently CJ is hoping for action with Scooter...12.50.

Cheap action? Sure, why not?

This is an excellent opportunity for pool fans to improve their game. A seasoned veteran offering this is rare.

CJ, I have a couple of pool friends who live in the area and I'll make sure they know of your offer. I'm sure thay won't pass it up.

they will always get a question answered or a suggestion on any aspect of their game

Sounds good, they will get much more than their money's worth. Once I start working with someone in this manner they will always get a question answered or a suggestion on any aspect of their game.

I'm confident my track record on AZ proves I donate a lot of free time to those that truly want to experience their highest level of performance. I was given this gift from many champions along the way, and now it's my turn to return the favor to others.

If I rack fast enough how many games of 9 ball ahead do you figure you could get per hour? I bet we're talking union wages:)

I think you're dead right about the gambling high and not at all thing, I've seen the same thing over the years and could never stand seeing a player turn down aspiring players for cheap action, still can't.

There should be a line outside your door by the time I get there.

There's an OMEGA TOUR event at Clicks

I'm actually playing on the Arlington/Ft. Worth side of DFW. There's an OMEGA TOUR event at Clicks (Arlington) that I went to today, and going back to check it out...it's a great room with several top-quality players.

I like to play at Wittens, Pockets, or Rustys right now, or I do come to Dallas once or twice a week so I could hook up at "The Den" if necessary. I also have a private place that I do lessons, but I wouldn't advice playing me anything there, it's my "home court". ;)

It would be like playing SVB on the Vegas Table. 'The Table is the Teacher'

I can be reached anytime at thegameistheteacher@gmail.com ...email me and I'll give you my cell # or private message me here, either way is ok, although email is prefered.

I played Orcollo a cheap set of 10 ball in Vegas. Best money ever spent!

I played Orcollo a cheap set of 10 ball in Vegas. Best money ever spent! At least I won a game in a race to 7:)

That is a great experience, Brandon Shuff played Alex several cheap sets in Vegas 2 years ago and he said it really helped his game....he may have played Dennis too.

Races to 7 for $20 - 30 is interesting enough, I would do that as well here in DFW. I talked to several players last night that said they would really like to play cheap sets more often, it's the "matching up" that they don't like.

Maybe I'll create a service to provide cheap set opportunites to everyone once or twice a week. This would actually be fun because it would be set up.....no "woofing" or match making, just go there and PLAY POOL FAST EDDIE>

my second "10$ Game" of 9 Ball and AGAIN started off 7 games behind

CJ, you should go to the (east side of Fort Worth) 24 hr Rusty's Billiards. The last time I was there, I couldn't get in the door good before someone was asking for an action game. Now that I see you live in the Dallas/FT worth area, you probably know all about Rusty's.

Yes, I'm very familiar with "Rustys" (I actually knew the original Rusty in the 80s) I played my first "$10" game at Rustys a few days ago and got 7 games behind before my opponents tip fell off....I came back and somehow won the match.

Yesterday I went over to Dallas to play my second "10$ Game" of 9 Ball and AGAIN started off 7 games behind (I lost the first 6 games in a row).

The moral of these stories is I really need to play more competition, my concentration is "out of stroke".......I've never had much trouble with the fundamental side of pocket billiards, however, I have to "keep in action" to sustain a high level of concentration, it is a skill that needs maintenance. This is the lesson I've learned from "my Teacher" this weekend.

OK, who's going to be my third opponent? I'm just getting warmed up. ;)

Like I have always said. "You play like who you play with." I have been giving cheap action to world beaters for decades. People always thought I was foolish. The best thing going was the Seminole Pro Tour in Florida. For $150 you got to go up against the best in the world.

It's the suggestions on how to improve that are the move valuable

Yes, the quickest way to "Play Like a Pro" is to actually play a pro....any other way is very indirect route. I was lucky to be able to play with Buddy Hall, Omaha John, Weldon Rogers, and Doug Smith when I was in my teenage years. All these guys beat me to begin with, but within a short amount of time I was beating them too. Some of my "mentors" I ended up playing the "7Ball" better on a 9' table.

Without this type seasoning my game would have remained in a "lull" for years....with this experience it enabled me to play world class players and eventually beat them as well. It's a stair step process, you just have to get on the stairs and start climbing to see how high you can go......or just stay on the ground level and be satisfied, it's a personal choice.

I've had several offers to play this week for $60 an hour and I'll do two hours this month for $90. and give an additional 15 minute overview if requested. I also will allow or supply video taping and a complimentary DVD with the "playing lesson". I can be coordinate with you anytime at thegameistheteacher@gmail.com

I believe for some players this will be of great benefit, and if Efren lived here I'd certainly take him up on this type of offer and I've played him many times. It's the suggestions on how to improve that are the move valuable, this is not normally done in pool. 'The Game is our Teacher'

training was handed down secretly to those that wanted to go through the ...........

I would jump at this if I lived there. Of course, might not be so fun once I lost 20 in a row!

I had 8 emails this morning about playing 2 hours for the $90. and this is probably the best for you if your speed isn't at least a "7" or higher. I believe it's still essential to play very seriously, like we're playing for thousands for the training to have the utmost benefit.

I did this type practice with Buddy Hall, Omaha John and many other champion players through the years. Buddy beat me in the finals of several tournaments in a row and "had my number" before I finally beat him in Kentucky........barely (this did a lot for my confidence from that day forward).

The results are going to be very noticeable to those that play me because I understand the mentoring process. Back in our day of "Road Players" the information and training was handed down secretly to those that wanted to go through the brutality of being a Road Player.

Now, it's not necessary (or even possible) to be a road player, however the information can still be passed on by playing champion players that understand how to teach.

I'm going back and forth between teaching martial arts and pool so it's natural for me. I'm even playing tennis again and have experienced a revelation in my grip and how I'm going through the cue ball. For me it's remembering some of the key things in my own fundamentals and I'm learning the most by helping others.....imagine that. ;) 'The Game is our Teacher'

We received 5 emails and 3 PMs (Mary Avina is also getting responses to play as well) this morning about playing 2 hours for the $90. and this is probably the best for you if your speed isn't at least a "7" or higher. I believe it's still essential to play very seriously, like we're playing for thousands for the training to have the utmost benefit.

I can describe what I'm doing as I run the balls or play safe, that's the best way to understand what I'm really doing.....and questions will be answered at any time with a demonstration as well as an explanation. "The Best of Both Worlds"

Cheap action is better then no action, boy this is so true!

Back then we used to call it pumping up!

CJ i know you are not pumping up today, i know you are trying to help out your opponent more then trying to bust him, funny how things change over the years!

the key to Promotion is motion ....PRO MOTION

Yes, this is just a different style of lesson, more like the champion players were exposed to at a early age.

It's tough to get mentors these days it seems, and this is the way to raise the level of your game the quickest.

I'm merely being the "sample example" until there's a break through.....the key to Promotion is motion........one thing that will help right now is more PRO MOTION - I made a two year commitment to helping the game get back on track by using proven business strategies.

I believe we'll see more pros giving lessons and promoting the mentorship like I've suggested. Just moving in a positive direction will help, and attaching ourselves to a popular charity would also attract media attention.

We've been watching the Bonus Ball operation with interest, just puzzled where it's going to develop profit centers......or even what these profit center will be without TV. If they somehow develop and expand it will be the single biggest accomplishment in history
