Prulhiere cue pics - the truth is out!

DO NOT BUY A PRULHIERE CUE!!!!

Here are some pictures of a Brian Prulhiere cue I received. I thought I was getting a great deal but it turned out otherwise. Instead of cored wood he just puts a thin veneer of the "exotic wood" to make it look pretty.

I'm not going to get into the entire fiasco again, but it can be found here.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=330098

In these pictures you will see:
1- A hole the size of a BB through the veneer where you can see the wood behind it.
2- The gap on one of the points. (there are gaps on 3 of the 4 points)
3- The veneer line on the butt
4- The veneer line on the handle (the rings don't match up, pretty obvious)
You can also see the line on the darker "wood" between the handle and the end but it doesn't show up in the pictures.

Ok. I'll be the douche here....

You bought a 'Custom cue' with "exotic hardwoods" for $225 from a guy who promised a 3 week turnaround... and you're surprised its a piece of crap?

kinda exactly what i was thinking to myself as I read it

I don't think this statement is totally unfair but I also thinks it reasonable to assume that you're getting a legitimate piece of hardwood when the seller/builder represents themselves as a "custom cue maker".

On his website its states
We make cues with old fashion techniques, styles and design.

This would lead me to believe that I was getting an actual hardwood cue.

I' think there's a huge difference between what might be implied and what he actually got. It's certainly debatable but even a Kia has a gas powered motor and seats 4.

As far as the price being a dead giveaway. Debatable as well. Its not unheard of for up and comers to move cues at near cost simply to get the exposure.

I've purchased a number of cues in the 200-300 range from a few up and coming cue makers. None were wrapped in veneers.

I bought 2 Prulhiere cues and I think it is a very good playing cue.Remember the price was only 225.00. Brian will do anything in reason to make you happy. You can't buy a better cue for 225.00.

it sounds the OP's real gripe is the misrepresentation and shoddy workmanship. I don't see where the cue "builder" ever describes his method of wrapping thin veneers over some kinda of core. They are positioned as Custom Cues with aggressive pricing. If the OP had been told they were built this way and then he just didn't like the cue that's one thing, but this is entirely different IMO. I don't think anyone that orders a custom cue(even at 2-300$) would assume or expect this construction technique.

and yes i think you most certainly CAN buy a better cue for the same money.

I won't go into every detail here as I don't feel I need to. I make a FEW veneer cues. I have sold a few on eBay. The vast majority of my cues are not. The cues are not junk! The play great. This guy is going on and on, but there is way more to this than is being posted. There is plenty he is not saying. I am not going to call him out as a liar or anything of the sort, because that drops me to the level of him and pointing fingers. If you all think I deceived him and hid information from him, then anything I post won't make a difference. As soon as I do it will just turn into a more ridiculous exchange than it already is. So I am just gonna let him have his way on this post for now. I do not post things that were discussed between him and I because that is between him and I. He feels the need to get on here with his electron microscope pics and tell half of a story. He was sent pictures ahead of time of this cue. I can make a Balabushka look bad if I take the pics a certain way. You have a guy that has a 0 I-trader and a total of 18 or 19 posts of which 12 or more are *****ing about me. I have 667+ posts and a spotless I-trader. I, just like anyone, have had a complaint here or there. I do my best. Remember, you are jumping on the band wagon with a guy who has absolutely no track record here. The comments about the cue being junk due to the price is the most ridiculous comments I have seen on here. If you have owned or played with one and still feel that way, then you have the right to make that statement. If you have never seen one of my cues, then how could you possibly know.

I guess I am the lucky one who received one of the very few veneer cues. What would a track record on here or number of posts have anything to do with the quality of a cue?
I am just posting pictures of the cue I received from you. And the pictures were taken with my iphone...

You can probably get the same cue from china for twenty bucks.

I bought some cues like this from ASKA billiards on ebay, I got 13 for about $8.00 a piece and I think they play pretty good.

Hmmm. Buy some at 8.00 a piece rebadge and then sell them for 150 - 300 each.

Nice profit, no work to do, and no sawdust to cleanup.

I wonder if this has been tried.....

Electron microscope? You're kidding, right?

It doesn't take much to make a crap cue look like crap. Just snap a photo with any camera available.

If a cue hits well, then thats all well and fine. However, if the fit and finish of that "custom" cue is poor, then it can ruin the whole experience. As a cue maker, you should know that. It's obviously not all about the hit... That's why not all play with a Sneaky Pete.

Regarding the situation with this cue... I think your avatar explains a lot.

if thats the facts, mia is spot on. and the buyer needs to learn a bit about cues(that can be done right here in a few hours) you would never make that mistake again, $225 will not buy a good cue(unless its stolen-and that aint cool)

Because I am not verbally assaulting the buyer as he has done me, I am automatically in the wrong. everyone keeps posting as if I am some kind of dirty crook yet not a single one of the negative posters knows me or the buyer or even the facts of the deal between us. Damn sure glad you don't have jury duty. It is strange to be guilty as a scammer and a shit cue-maker with a terrible reputation all over some guys word who is new to AZ. Why does it seem to be a contest on here to see who can make the biggest zinger. Who can come up with the biggest put down or who can make me look the worst. Grow up guys. If you want to ask me some questions, ask. I will be glad to pm you. I am not going to air out the details in an open forum no matter how much you try to goat me or make me feel like I have to defend myself. You don't have all of the facts, and you are not going to get them, as the deal was not with you.

I hope you resolve your customer issues quickly and amicably. You seem to offer a decent product in that price range/niche and an alternative to cues made overseas.

Here is some fee advice...but very good advice. Don't build any more veneer wrapped cues without disclosing that. That's really no different than taking a cue and painting it black and calling it ebony.

I agree that we do not have all of the facts, and that we probably will not due to this being a private sale that did not involve us. However, this is something that may involve any one of us later down the road if we should ever become interested in purchasing a product from you.

I hope you and your unsatisfied customer soon find a resolution that addresses the issues raised, all while hopefully avoiding a similar situation in the future on both parts.

I feel this is an extremely fair summary. Good post.
