I read him blaming his lack of focus or "drifting focus" and really blaming it on the table.

The pockets were the same for both players.

He's now moving the goal posts and saying he'd like a shot on a table with bigger pockets, a bar table, blah blah.

I guess he fails to realize that the pockets will be wider for Bartram as well, the guy that missed about 3 shots on the 4 inch pockets the first night.

What I'm reading is that Gene is trying to dumb the game down to a Fisher Price table with some buckets so that he may luck one out.

Agree with the poster before that said a short race would benefit Gene more than anything. In a race to 21, the cream is going to rise to the top no matter what the set up is.
 
First, congratulations Chris! It was good to see and talk to you after so many years. Hope to continue our conversation at a later time when your not in battle mode.:thumbup:

Second, I would also like to commend Gene for stepping up and following through. You may have bit off more than you could chew here, but you showed guts by coming out from behind the keyboard and not backing down. It would be nice to see *others* in your field follow in your footsteps. You showed the heart and courage of a young man. The beauty of a challenge is, theres always another day to battle.

I'm truly a nobody and I'm fully aware my thoughts and opinions mean nothing to anyone else in the sport. However to me, this type of event and rivalry is what this sport should be all about.
There is so much rich history that has been made in this sport doing exactly what these two just did. I love tournaments as well, but the real stories from those events are what happens in the green room after the tournament is done for the day. Gladiators battling for the cheese.

Let's just hope that this type of rivalry can become more of a common thing in this sport. It can be nothing but good, and I fail to see any bad. Look at all the drama that surrounds nearly (not all but most) every organized event here recently. Drama, drama, drama, greed, greed, greed and ego, ego, ego are bleeding the sport dry of charismatic appeal.
So in closing, and my whole point here is, I think having more of these "Grudge Match" style events organized just the way this one went down and thrown together on a whim, could be the spark that ignites the sports flame once again. That or my own lack of sleep last night has me completely delirious today.

I love it when someone makes a screen name to come on and ride someone because they don't have the balls to do it under their normal name. Either that or this is your first screen name and Gene being involved moved you so much you felt you had to post. You have 9 posts, 7 of them in the Grudge match threads just poking at Gene. What is it that you have against him?

bye the way, if you read the posts, you would have seen the Gene said Chris played good, and he did not, but trolls don't read, they just post.

I've read your posts and I've read Gene's. I think you are interpreting Gene's post the way you want to and it's different than what I read.

When someone writes that their focus drifts in and out, they are admitting that they are the weaker player. I'm surprised that you don't see that.

You change Gene's words around suggesting that Gene is saying that all tables should be buckets and that too is not what he is saying.

I just don't see things the way you do.

Chris is clearly the better player. Gene came up on the short end of everything on this table. It will be a little closer on a bar table, but Bartram gets the nod there too.

I'm sure now Gene will have lots of people wanting to play him for some dough, since he played so badly against Chris.

I hope those people will start sending in their names and locations because I would like to see Gene play again, maybe not against Chris but against others who aren't quite as talented as the Smooth Criminal.

Congrats to Chris for doing what he do, and good job to Gene for stepping up. Wish I could make it up to Beloit to - a) get outbid on Klatt in the Calcutta, and b) lose a few games of 1p to the Smooth Criminal....

I may still try to come up, but doubtful
 
I'm glad to see a match like this go off. Thanks Ray for helping to make it happen. Kudos to Gene for stepping in the ring and on a stream table no less. Thanks to Chris for showing us how a pro from this board can play.
I'm sure that if I shot Chris' s speed he'd still eat my lunch because he is so disciplined. The sets were pretty much in the bag and still he played the smart shot rather than the flashy attempt. I have a hard time not trying the shots that bring the oohs and ahhs once in a while in a set that isn't very tight.
