Mean Spirited?

Actually, it is the ones complaining and filling Mr. Wilson in box that are the problem.

Why, because they are whiners and do not know how to just let someone post and not take it so damn seriously.

They want a perfect little posting enviroment where it is all feel good, about being part of the good ole boys club, about not being challenged about what you write.

I can say that from all the shit I have gotten, I never once went crying to the mods. I'm a man, not a wimpy whiner that goes running off crying to mommie when someone disagrees with me, or not like how I wrote something.

If you are taking posting on az billiards so seriously, you need to step away from this non reality and start getting into reality.

If what you say is really true, I can't help but wonder why you made this post above??

You got to have the killer instinct to be successful at pool, and to some people that comes off as being mean, because you can't let the other guy up when he's down or he might just beat you. You can't let up, not one little bit, or you might end up being the loser. What do pool players call 2nd place? 1st loser.

Which reminds me of an experience I had at the Derby a couple of years ago. I am a big fan of watching the pro pool players play and always try to get a good seat in the bleachers at the tv table which is usually right next to the isle. There was an older guy, obviously a player, who was trying to explain to an older, well dressed couple what was going on in the game on the tv table, and they were standing next to where I was sitting. I saw and heard the woman turn to the guy explaining the action and say, and I quote " This is the meanest group of people I have ever been around. " I will never forget that. It also explains why the wife of the pool player who asked why she never wanted to go to the pool room with him said " Why would I want to spend time in a room full of men, with Texas sized egos, that are trying to dominate each other. " How we appear to others is something that we should think about if we want to grow the sport of pool and billiards IMO.
I like this post, sir.
A lot of people do not understand that pool is a war game.
Played at a high level, pool is as fierce as boxing.....
.....so if you're not mean on the green.....your game is lame.

You can re-acquire your social graces when you put your cue back in the case.

Yes, but you are probably charging hundreds to share your secrets. I may not have your level of 'training' or 'skill', but I have been hugging at a very high level for 30 years myself.

You may consider yourself a 'master-level hugger', and may in fact be certified as such, but my knowledge is gained from years of hugging, and everyone knows that vague, nonspecific chatter is far superior to 'certifications' and 'credentials'.

I will happily share my technique with anyone who will let me hug them... please.

Ok, but no nut-hugging!

Rick first came to my attention about 6 weeks ago when he and C. j Wiley were a tag team defending the merits of teaching T.O.I to intermediate players. Some seem to think T.O.I. Is a radical concept that highly advanced ball pocketers should use if they wish but it will just mess up the minds and strokes of intermediates if they are instructed in it. I sure hope I'm not starting up this debate again, but the attacks against Rick were just as bitter then as they were in the pendulum stroke debate. I'm not educated enough in stroke mechanics to weigh in on the pendulum debate, but I'm a highly advanced ball pocketer. I play by feel. Most of the balls go in so I assume my mechanics are sound. Anyhow; Rick was getting attacked six weeks ago and all he was doing was making perfect sense. T.O.I is a wonderful system. I find it to be superior to center ball, however I still practice center ball every day and if someone else finds center ball to be superior to T.O.I. they should by all means use center ball. In fact as I practice center ball and get better at it maybe some day I'll find it to be superior to T.O.I; maybe not The point is, T.O.I will only give an intermediate a really fun and highly effective for some, alternative to center ball and his or her feel for the ball will only get better and IMPROVE the center ball hit. It's not going to mess up the mind or stroke of any intermediate. Those who made this assertion could not come up with sound reasons for it. The center ball hit is status quo and these were status quo types of personalities and T.O.I is radical and they can't accept radicalism or believe that such a radical system system can be highly efficient and make plain common sense. As I said, I sure hope I'm not starting this debate again. The point is, I'm not educated enough in the pendulum stroke mechanics to defend Rick's views exactly, but I assume from the context of what he was saying that his views were somewhat radical. All I know is I do know what he was talking about when he was making perfect sense espousing his radical views 6 weeks ago and he was getting attacked then the
same way he was the other night.

Greg,

You seem to have a keen grasp on the reality of AZB.

the Touch of Inside becomes your "center ball" although....,

Yes, the Touch of Inside becomes your "center ball," in effect {the difference is} you ALWAYS know which way the cue ball's deflecting so you get more reliable feedback......knowing why you don't make shots is a considerable advantage because it keeps a player from making unnecessary adjustments during a match. There are other advantages when you take into account the "Three Part Pocket System" and the increased margin of error.

English, this is for you...

i find faults here with folks from time to time, and lord knows many have found faults of mine here and they were usually right on many counts. sometimes i lashed back but in time i realized they were almost always right in one way or another.

that did not mean i gave into the "Asylum" as the "Word You Chose", as i said they were right, not me. and actually i am the better for all i learned from your so called "Asylum".

i am sure you "Respect" those that are in Agreement with your general persuasion and thoughts. but i suggest you try reading into the thoughts of those that may not think as you do.

if i was given the task of sublimating a thought directly into your brain it would be the words on the building of the Oracle of Delphi: "Know Thyself".

that is first and foremost. and maybe one day you will find that to be true.

pls do not respond to me, i do not want to get into your game of words/attitude. i will not respond. this is just for your edification and maybe food for thought.

Good Luck!

all the best,
smokey

Yeah,

That is what several on here that I respect have recently told me.

I'm starting to get it.

But it's sort of like turning the asylum over to those that are committed.

But if that is what AZB management wants. So be it.

I guess it is all about the numbers & not about 'right or wrong'.

Thanks for the advice & Best Wishes,
Rick

There's a lot of really good people on this forum that I have met in person. Even some who I have never met have become my good friends.

Smorgie was like that. I never got the chance to meet him, but we became really good forum buddies, enjoying each other's wit and humor.

Although this forum is geared towards pool aficinoados networking on a variety of pool-related topics, it would be a fun experience. When it's not fun, the members may take a hiatus or leave.

Because of AzBilliards' growth in the last few years, it is impossible, it would seem, to moderate to everybody's liking. Some say it's too strict; others say it's too lax.

About 10 years ago, AzBilliards' community was a lot smaller, and there were less squabbles. Yes, there were a few, but nothing on the scale of the squabbles today.

Before Facebook became a popular social media site, I was Facebooking, for lack of a better word, on AzBilliards while traveling on the pool tournament trail, posting trip updates and photos galore. It was fun, and I enjoyed it, much like folks on Facebook today enjoy the Facebook experience. I couldn't wait to get back to the hotel room to post about the day's festivities at the pool tournament along with photos.

The AzBilliards community today is kind of like walking into my neighborhood tavern. I will know at least a few "regulars" when I login. There are other social media outlets today that seem to be taking off like gangbusters. Will Facebook eventually replace the activities on AzBilliards Discussion Forum? I'm not sure. Some industry forums I have been a member of have gone dark. You can start a "closed" forum group on Facebook very easily, which members must be approved or invited.

For some, this would offer a venue to spew our their venom that they can't do here on AzBilliards, and for others, it would be a safe haven to post without having to deal with the venom. :grin-square:

One thing AzBilliards and Facebook both have in common, they're a time-burner. Sometimes a person's time can be precious in life doing something else. You never know what that something else is, though, if you stay connected 24/7.

Me personally, when I leave the home, I am *not* connected. I enjoy a break from it. There really is more to life than texting, posting, reading forums and websites, yet everywhere I go today, I see people texting, posting, and reading something on their smartphones, iPhones, or tablets. :o

hey Jam...

how in the world would i have met you, the woman who is Keith's partner [who is my favorite pool star, i know i never told you before] - how could that have happened without AZB?

on a personal note: how could have Wade's family dealt with their burden if we had never met?

in my mind, who could tell a pool story better than Jay H.? or Freddy?

how could i have ever met Fats and JA thru Fats?

i could tell you so many benefits that have become part of my life from AZB.

in my life i was taught to be grateful for everything. and tho i must have missed some important lessons in life [sri mom] i did not miss gratefulness. and so i am grateful for AZB.

AZB can be your lift or downfall imo - it is all up to each of you.

and finally, thanks Jam for being my friend,
smokey
