The hot female avatars have been going on here for a decade...

I honestly think these are not girl friends or wives of AZ members rather sexy women they wish they could have but know they can't. When I first signed up I noticed this so my first avatar was of my wife from when she modeled. I think I had three proposals the first week cause they thought she was me.

I have since stopped using any female avatars and instead have used many pun type or movie quotes as my avatar.

I was the first to use doc holliday with the sig "I'm your huckleberry", Although someone actually pm'ed me the correct quote cause at first I was using "I'll be your huckleberry" I don't remember now who pm'ed me the correct one, but it was an og user...

I caught a bunch of flack for using the shootem up pic with a quote from that movie and have since kept it cleaner...

It can be a little uncomfortable in certain company but just explain you don't have control on other people's choices and it's an open forum.

Now I'm using Brad Pitt from "Snatch" with his quote of "do you like dogs" but I'm not sure how many people have understood or recognized it.

Anyone that has an internet connection can go anywhere. This is AZ's privately owned biz, if you have a youngun or don't like half naked avatars, change your viewing settings, you can still get all the content AZ affords. JMO.

What avatars?

Since AZ did their update a couple months ago, I can stay logged in forever. I have avatars turned off, because I log in while I'm working. Between customers I like to read what's going on. My computer screen is visible from where my customers stand and well.....some avatars are questionable at best..LOL

What is a avatar? ;)
 
My avatar isn't pornographic...just juvenile. As my students put underneath my picture in the yearbook back when I taught high school, "You're only young once, but you can be immature forever!"

And it just occurred to me, the sentiment in my avatar could appeal to anyone, regardless of their sex or sexual preference...all you have to be is a naked butt appreciator. But I'm a dude and my naked-butted Schon is a LADY, man. And I love her that way.

If any woman were offended or made uncomfortable by my avatar, though, I'd change it. Mama raised a gentleman.

Unfortunately for the world, pc bullshit eradicated any consideration for political correctness in my being... when society starts to right itself, so will that portion of me.

I still am courteous and chivalrous though...

If you think sexy avatars disrespect women then I would say that is an opinion that you are entitled to.

My opinion is that they glorify women.
 
I am sure this said before. Turn off the avatars from view in your settings if you think they are offensive.

It is really your choice to view them or not.

Edited your post to highlight this good point that you made. This feature can keep everyone happier. For those that don't enjoy looking at beautiful women and other unique avatars this is a good alternative. For people like me that enjoy looking at avatars, we can leave them on and get more enjoyment out of AZB. Very good point MahnaMahna.
 
I thought for sure this was going to be the second Great Nipple Fight of 2013. A more heated avatar debate was had (for something like 15 pages?) in a thread originally having nothing to do with avatars at all, over a phantom nipple.

It would be helpful for us working folks if the forum had a Microsoft Word or Excel display theme.

As far as the pictures go, I don't see the need for them. However, if they're within the boundaries of the forum's acceptable use policy, and condoned by moderators explicitly or as implied by inaction, I'm fine with it.
 
hmmmm, had to think about this for a minute.

I have some risque' avatars at times. They are NEVER pornographic. (aka) having "private" anatomy parts showing.

First: I'm a gentleman,.... If ANYONE feels offended by my avatar, I would change it without hesitation. (I'm not here to cause dissension).

Second: I ADORE women,....everything about them ! (not just their bodies). Women see life from a different perspective than males -- something I appreciate.

All that said:
I don't really see anything wrong with it, so long as it is not pornographic. The sport of pool has been predominantly an adult game, (played in bars and casinos, the basements of hotels,etc.)

There is indeed always the option to turn off avatars,or say something to the member posting., or to a moderator.
What I do not like are people who use an issue to take up their own providence . (I'm NOT saying that the OP is doing that here).

You may likely find more nudity at a public beach, or a concert than in most avatars displayed here. Think Miley Cyrus' latest tirade , or Lady GaGa,....before her, Madonna,............... How bout Janet Jackson ??

I feel you galipeau, but it's a lost cause.

This discussion comes up regularly every few months,
and the bottom line seems to be: You can ask people politely to not use this type of avatar,
and give good reasons, but about 100% of them will ignore you and keep doing it
because they feel there's nothing wrong with it.

The guys who run the website are well aware of them and have never removed
one, to my knowledge... maybe it happened before with something really graphic.
I agree with you that it creates an atmosphere that might make females feel less welcome.

Personally what bothers me the most is that it gives the forums a real back-of-the-garage feel,
it makes the forums feel like a low-class place full of dumb people. I know there are some good
posters who have these avatars, they're not all dumb, but seeing dozens of bikini girls
absolutely creates that vibe that this place is full of droolers who go HURRR TITTIES!!!

We talk a lot about injecting a little class back into pool but I guess this is the audience.
 
my original avatar was intended to be an underwear crotch-shot of a male, but i was informed that those were forbidden.

so my new avatar, is as close as i could get, to exploiting men....
