Cue Club in Vegas

*EDIT* I don't want to re-read Lou's thread in its entirety, but I believe someone explains that CC doesn't offer the special rate to non-regulars during the week of the APA/VNEA/BCA Nationals.

This year I went straight to Best Billiards. Basically, I did the same thing: just kept my mouth shut to see what would happen:

(insert flashback music)

"Landing in Vegas shortly after noon, I decide that it is in my best interests to head over to Best Billiards and hit a few balls on a Diamond table. There, I see Fast Lenny, still hobbled by a foot injury, Bobby Cotton, and Fatboy. Best Billiards is a wonderful room. There are several Diamond 9' tables, a couple of Diamond bar boxes, 3C tables, and a private room available. The service is cordial, and at one point Mary comes over to my table to inform me that I have played long enough to qualify for the daily special rate and can play until 7 for the same cost."

So, there you have it -- two totally different approaches and only one of them gets my bizaness.

best billiards

Best Billiards - $8.00 hourly all year. The room is nice indeed and for sale. Owner has a "real" job that apparently pays well. Mike Massey was giving private lessons in one of the back rooms when I was in there. There are two private rooms, one with a 9 footer, the other has a 10. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Agreed. I was there too and loved it. But what is up with that Diamond in the back? Is it a billiard table or a pool table?!

2 more thumbs up for Mary too!

One is a 10 footer, the other is a 9ft diamond, i havent been there in a month or so as i go to Mickeys all the time as its closer to me.

Sorry the OP didn't enjoy themselves at The Cue Club. Might have been nice to see some positive comments on the playability of the seven GC's recently redone by Ernesto. No better playing conditions in Vegas.

Blue Hog, when were you there? In the past year the Cue Club has reduced its floor space by nearly 50%. All new carpeting and paint. Half the number of tables.

Didn't go to Best in July. If RandyG says it's closed, I'm saddened. Great room (and food).

In the hay day of pool in Vegas during the APA and BCAPL events, Cue Club did charge higher rates but provided free transportation to and from the room to The Riv. Think Henry deserves better. Like every market in America, the pool scene in Vegas is shrinking.

I have been to a bunch of the poolrooms in Vegas and would rank my favorites in order as Best Billiards, Pool Sharks, Mickeys and then lastly Cue Club. There is some misinformation here but Best Billiards is not closed but if for sale. The day rate there is $8 from 10am until 7pm everyday and not $8 an hour. I believe the hourly rate is $5 and $6 for the tight Diamond house table. I am unsure of the private room rates for the 9 foot and 10 foot table rooms. There is also billiard tables there to play on also. It is the cleanest and nicest poolroom in Las Vegas that is for sure but Pool Sharks is the place for action IMO.

This is just like the Cable Company or Directv -- new customers get a much lower rate than an established customer. Every year I have to call them and argue, why would you charge a new customer less than me when I have paid my bill on time of 10 years.

My car insurance company tried to do the same thing. My premium went up like $400 a year. I called and they said there wasn't anything they could do. When I told them I had found another company, he said "let me run you as a new customer." He called me back and miraculously, it was now going to be cheaper than it was even prior to the increase.

I really don't understand why these companies prefer new over loyal. I had paid premiums with them for almost a decade when that happened.

Our local cable company does the same. I called them once and asked if I could get cut in on the 6 months free movie channel.

Nope, thats just for new customers. I told them to unhook me as I was going to buy a Sat Dish.

Got a dish and get more channels for a fraction of the previous monthly cable bill.

which of them are non smoking?

poker has grown and almost all rooms are non smoking as they recognize that the people with the money tend not to smoke.

I would like to say that, the table I played on played absolutely great !!!!
Pockets were tight, felt n balls were clean n fast.. everything was perfect. (Played on Table 2 )
Ernesto does a great job...I could almost tell he did the pockets after the 1st hr of playing

We aint never drinking out of the same cup, lol.
The cue club used to be the best room about 10-15 years ago, you used to always see guys matching up in there.
I think the kids at night started chasing all the regs out with the beefs and the B.S. , christ they even had an armed security guard in there last time i was in there at night, plus the Mex nightclub always has beefs going on in the parking lot on the weekends and someone was always getting stuck or shot in the parking lot.

Yeah that parking lot is a rough one, guaranteed to see a bum, a hooker or a drug deal every night.

Agree

Even though you didn't get the special I'd still say that rate isn't too bad. I'd be ok with that.

I agree $18 to play pool in what was a good match is cheap. I know it's the point of one player getting a special and one not, but the other guy was a local.A room has to make some money.
