2014 Mosconi Cup: Team Europe v. Team Asia

JAM. YOU MOVE TO ASIA. YOU ARE WHATS WRONG

TAKE YOUR PILLS

thanks..

Or instead of making this stupid thread because 1 person out of hundred of millions posted something you don't like, how about you just PM him and save us all from your rage.

is this how you wake up on Fridays?

I like my thread; you think it's stupid.

I guess I created this thread because I do believe a Team Asia in a future Mosconi Cup holds merit. There's certainly more Asian players than Americans these days, or haven't you noticed?

By the same token, though, you could have PM'd me to save this forum from your rage at my thread. Practice what you preach. ;)

I like the current format of the Mosconi Cup, though I would like to see the Asian countries represented somehow, but at that point we'd be getting into a sort of World Cup of Team Pool which might be a lot of fun anyways. The problem that I have with the current Mosconi Cup is that it's USA vs. Europe. One change that I'd like to see would be to make it USA vs England, or USA vs. Germany, or at the most USA vs. The United Kingdom.
In the European Union there are what?, about 28 countries to draw from, if you include the whole of Europe that makes it about 50 countries, to include the whole of Asia, well, there are 45 Asian countries. If it were to continue in it's current format, the change I'd like to see is to make it The Americas vs Europe.
But to just remove the USA and have an event Europe vs. Asia, that might be better played on a snooker table

Ok so you want to see Team Asia vs Team Europe

So your way of making this happen is bashing all US players and fans. Next thread is going to be titled JAM MOVE AWAY. However if you say your sorry we will forgive you because we are Americans.. Filipino's aren't so forgiving. LOL

happy Friday!

Pool is cruel to its own. It's a dog-eat-dog world, and that ain't no lie, when it comes to American professional pool. :embarrassed2:

We can call it the Reyes Cup. Though technically Filipinos aren't Asian and Efren is still alive.

I like the format that they used to have where most of the players qualified based on performances with a few wild cards chosen.

Performance-based qualifications always give an event more legitimacy as opposed to an entertainment show.

Here's how the Ryder Cup players qualify for the team:

"For the 2014 Ryder Cup each team will have 9 players qualifying based on performances with the remaining 3 players selected by the captain."

Fran -

That was the point I was trying to make.

My thoughts would be DCC, Southern Classic, etc.

I agree.

And..

jam, you can't accurately state that "most Americans....[fill in the blank]" because of a rant on Az. I understand how you feel but...come on... That's like me saying that most Americans want a euro vs Asia cup just because of your rant.

And...

People are fickle EVERYWHERE on earth. It's like being in high school....

" this school sux, the teachers suck, the food sucks, the hours suck, the principle sucks..."

But when the highschool football team goes to the state playoffs...the same kids will be shouting " OUR School is gonna kick your schools ass!!!"

I agree with this. I think that a world league with one team representing each major world region (North America, Asia, Europe, Middle East etc.) would be exciting as a pool player to watch. I also believe it would bring in other non pool playing viewers due to nationalism.

Start with a match a month, rotating the teams so a single team would only travel 4-5 times annually. Use a shortened version of the Mosconi Cup format so the match would last two evenings.

Paying fans won't get burned out. They only have to buy the stream monthly.

This way, there might be enough sponsorship money to support the players because each regions money is concentrated on one team. We, as fans, get to see top notch pool.

The players wouldn't need to act unprofessionally, just let the rabid fans do it. If you disagree, just go read the other thread and feel the rivalry.

Nice job with the recent result factoid tally Ken!

Mosconi cup should always be USA vs Europe.

After Efren dies we'll have the Reyes cup, which will be the Filipinos vs the World.

Deep breaths JAM.....

Best match out there is Filippinos vs Rest of World

Filipino Team
Dennis Orcullo, Carlo Biado, Alex Pagulayan, Francisco Bustamante, Lee Van Corteza

Rest of World Team
Shane Van Boening, Thorsten Hohmann, Ko Pin Yi, Niels Feijen, Darren Appleton

That one is pretty close.

I'd pay $100 to watch this. On a certain condition that they must play 8, 9 and 10 ball round robin :D

It should be Ronnie Alcano instead of Alex, for obvious reasons...

That reason being...

That he is filipino by race, not by nationality???

Jaden

p.s. I would go one step further and say to represent a country, you should have to have been a resident of that country for the previous year...Mosconi cup would likely turn out much differently if that were the case....

I would love to see Asia get into the fray. Don't know what the format would be but a three way race for the cup (Europe, USA, and Asia) would be great. There are so many great Asian players right now and that would make selecting a team most challenging.
As far as the Mosconi cup goes, I'm a team USA fan but I enjoy seeing some well played pool regardless whether it's Team USA or Team Europe winning the cup.

Probably not. A Team Europe of Feijen, Vandenberg, Ekonomopolous, Souquet and Alcaide, all of whom live in Europe, would present a very tough test for Team USA. Team Europe would be very strong even if you left out American-based Europeans like Appleton, Hohmann and Immonen.

Team USA?

I am of the belief that this should be the last year for Team USA. I would like to see Matchroom Sport appreciated for their efforts, and the pool culture in Asia and Europe seems more appreciative and supportive for future Mosconi Cups. Most Americans don't like American pros; therein likes the problem.:embarrassed2:

I'd like to see people get over trying to constantly prove American "superiority" in anything and everything. If there were a round-robin tournament with one team from say 16 different nations, the US would not fare all that well, despite our population.

A Phillipine team would hold its own against a team of the best players from all the other countries combined. Their second team might be favored against any six Americans.
