US Open Worst First Round Draw

I'm heading to the US Open on Tuesday and I just looked over the bracket showing the first round matches and one match looks rough for your first opponent. Mika Immonen and Warren Kiamco play each other first match (they both got a first round bye) and one of these excellent players is heading to the losers bracket after their first match. Mika is a 2 time winner of the Open and Warren is capable of winning the event also. I guess this is the luck of the draw, but there are a lot of players i'd rather face in my first match than one of these two champions! If I had to pick a winner i'd go with Mika, but he better be hitting them great because Warren is tough.

Yes, they both good some bad luck there. However, one can come back from the losers bracket- but that is tough to do

A few years ago Mika lost the first round to Chris Bartram and came back from the losers side and won the event!

Well sheeat!

If you are gonna draw warren or mika, then it is nice to be able to play like warren or mika!

Well when you have a big tournament with tons of champions, a few of the are going to meet in the first round. It happens every year at every major tournament.

What is your point? Would you rather they use a seeding system like at the NCAA Bball tourny? With random draw this is going to happen in almost every tourny.

I wasn't trying to make a point it was just an observation to anyone who hadn't seen the brackets for the US Open yet. They weren't very lucky in the draw.

I'm pretty sure the us open IS seeded. Warren is not the caliber of player that Mika is.

Yes, it is seeded. It would be interesting to know what seeding they are using, how it is based, I guess I should say. :embarrassed2:

BTW, Woof, I haven't forgotten you. Just haven't been to the Post Office yet. ;)

No problem. I would like to know what the criteria is too. Seems pretty arbitrary except for former champions.

Idk I feel my 1st round was pretty bad. I played at 830 last night and only 3 matches were scheduled the rest of the tables people were practicing. I had a couple people bump into while playing that were not playing a match and a couple times my seat was taken by socializers. It's no excuse but why wasn't every table occupied by a scheduled match?

Getting bumped by someone who isn't even playing a match is RIDICULOUS! When a player's seat is taken by socializers, well that takes the cake.

I feel for ya.

I think I might be pissed.

Don't they have the playing area roped off? This doesn't make sense to me.

Somebody please share a photo of the tournament room. How on earth could a railbird sit in a competitor's chair? Sheesh!

That's odd.
What I usually do is wait until the semi-finals before I start bumping into the players and taking their seat.

unless it's Dennis Hatch.

Have you just not seen Warren play much? Mika will have his hands full and I doubt he is thrilled with his draw either.

I've seen Warren play and have played him myself. He's a great player, but compare their rotation resumes on the big table and get back to me. There's no comparison.
