TAR 37: Deuel vs Van Boening All Around Nov. 1-3, 2013

We need to get some top rated amateurs to play in these matches.

The winner of this event should go and face some up and comer.

I would definitely want to watch some local or regional top players duke it out with a so-called professional and I'm sure people will pay to see that.

One, Cory and Shane aren't "so-called" professionals, they're elite class, some of the best professionals that have ever played. Either of them playing a top ranked amateur would be a blood bath and extremely lopsided.... IMO, not many people would pay to watch a grown man punch a baby....

+1

We've seen matches with both of them (particularly Shane) playing against some of the best players in the world... and it's been a bloodbath and extremely lopsided. Watching them against amateurs would be a waste of time.

Good matchup, JCIN. It will be nice to see some 9 ball on TAR. I'd like to see another 9 ball match with similar breaking rules to those Shane and Earl used when they last matched up on TAR. Earls antics kind of put a dampener on it, but that was one of the more interesting matchups I can remember in parts.

How about the amateurs win at least one major event...to qualify for a chance to play one of the best pro's otherwise, what's the point of watching, let alone paying to watch someone who stands no chance of winning? If your race horse can't even place in the top 16 of a major event, what on earth makes you think they should have a shot at being on stage playing a Pro? What would you have them play a race to...a race to 2, or maybe 3?

I know you do a special price for all 3 days, any chance we can get a deal for just friday & saturday too? I don't like 1 pocket.

Communist........:D

Naw i'm just a Canadian, i've played pool for a little over 20yrs and i can't recall ever seeing anyone around here playing 1 pocket, it's mostly 8 & 9 ball and snooker.

I bought the 1 pocket the last time Corey played and after suffering through that (was it) 10hrs? I promised myself i'd never watch it again, i wouldn't be surprised if making people watch 1 pocket matches is one of the ways they torture people in guantanamo...lol

Dom Poppa is either being obstinent on purpose or, I believe, he truly has no idea what high level pool really is. I've noticed that the better I become at pool, the more I understand how big the gap really is. I don't know that you can understand what being a top level player is until you have reached an A level.

I have been to the derby many many times and have played many pros. I play pretty good pool and I can't get near these guys. I would probably need at least the 6/7 from Bartram, and probably 6 out or more from Shane.

I think Shane wins easily in 8-ball. As he demonstrated at the US Open 8-ball in July, his 10-ball break works just fine in 8-ball. He further demonstrated that he can beat a player that is playing near perfect pool. Ko Pin Yi didn't miss a ball until rack 14 of their match, and Biado broke and ran nine of his first ten breaks in the final. Shane won both matches.

Nine ball should also go Shane's way. I think it's myth that Shane plays ten ball better than nine ball. He's a stone-cold killer at both.

Corey is the favorite in one pocket but only by a bit. Corey won the 2013 DCC one pocket title and reached the final of the 2013 US Open one pocket event. The race to five final between Dennis Orcullo and the ridiculously slow playing Corey Deuel at the US Open one pocket event took 6 1/2 hours and was not even a double hill affair. I'm really struggling to imagine how long a race to eight might take, but I really don't think it will be played.

Sounds like a nice match-up but I'd like it better if one pocket came earlier. Thanks to TAR for this imaginative contest between two giants of the sport.

It sounds like some people on this thread are confused about the format. This isn't a best of 3. Regardless if someone wins the 8 and 9 ball, they are still playing the one pocket. It is $1000 to the winner and $500 to the loser of each night, with an extra $500 going to whoever wins more sets.

That's why I requested one pocket be played on Friday or Saturday instead. I can easily see the set going 8-6 or 8-7. I'm still going to buy it, but I know I'll be pretty tired at work Monday morning.

Thanks, I was definitely confused by this. That makes it better.

Look forward to buying it.

Very excited for this. I think Shane wins by a decent margin in 8 ball. He will also win 9 ball. As for the 1P it will all come down to the rolls.

I think one hole's the only game Corey doesn't stand a chance in. The other two games he is capeable of an extremly high caliber of play.

I dont believe this statement is accurate at all. If corey is shooting good and his creativity is working I think its the other way around.

Yes, that is the only game that Corey may be slightly favored in. He is the underdog in 8 ball for sure and a little less so for 9 ball

Methinks some people are going to get out of line betting on the one-pocket set. Fair warning: don't be surprised if Corey makes you hate it. I for one don't think anyone has to like playing that man one-pocket.

I think it's going to be an epic battle, but what I am really looking forward to is watching two elite players who consistently show professionalism, sportsmanship, and respect.

Aaron - predicting at least a 5-pack from somebody in the 8-ball.

This is all I need to say. :) I'm gonna be out of town that weekend, but I'm still buying the PPV in case there's 4G (or wifi) in the tournament or hotel room.
