Wedge posted news about this earlier, but Mike Sigel has just announced it formally on his Facebook page.

Global Pool Players Association Presents

A NEW HANDICAP SYSTEM DEVELOPED BY MIKE SIGEL: $1 MILLION GUARANTEED

FIRST PRIZE - $250,000

Key points:
1. The Sigel Handicap System is the most fair system ever created and allows almost anyone to compete on an equal level regardless of previous experience.
2. About 1 in 7 teams will be going to Las Vegas for our annual event compared to 1 in 50 teams for other leagues.
3. Any 5 players can make a team regardless of ability and that team can stay together as long as they would like. A player does not need a particular handicap to make a team. The roster allows for up to 3 alternate players.
4. No other league can offer what GPPA can today.
5. We offer full transparency both to the League Operator and the players. Everyone will be able to review the stats and placement in the ranks.

His GPPA website is under construction, but there is some info on it ---> gppaleague.com :)

Timing is everything. Pool needs something like this right now in America. $250,000 first prize. Wow!

i'm far from a spelling and grammar freak, but a business should have someone proofread their stuff on the web. i go to the website under construction and i see -

"please bare with us"

hey mike, it should be -

"please bear with us"

larrynj1...or maybe, just maybe, Mike's trying to go the Austrailian Oyster route...being bare-assed an all? J/K Mike!

After reading through the rules, this league is definitely set up for those that can't play. And does it's best to keep out those that can play. By his rules, I'm classified as a pro. That is way off base. So I could be giving up 6 ball in hands in one game of 8 ball.

Well, hells bells, maybe I ought join this league. I just might have a chance at that $250,000! :p

New Players

Correct, Mike is trying to bring a lot of new players into the sport. If he is at Champions tomorrow I will ask him to define what a Pro Tournament is. JAM, I told Mike today that you started the thread on AZ and he said thanks.

Let's give Mike a chance to make this work. He has solid backing and this may very well help our sport to grow.

This is exactly what amateur pool needs. 8 ball is the most popular game!
Thanks Mr.Sigel!

I wouldn't say it's for people who can't play. Not for pros definitely.A good local player will need 1 or 2 ball in hands to get out many 8 ball racks I would think.

Keep in mind the game is still played out.Seems like you could use the ball in hands when you get safed or get a little out of line.

Those are my initial thoughts after reading the rules but i've been wrong before

Seems like high powered offensive 8 ball. Not sure, I'm a fan myself, but I don't hate the idea.

I reckon I'd probably be a 2 or 1 handicap.

Is Mike Sigel tapping a potential customer base not served/addressed by existing beginner/intermediate leagues, or will this new venture cannibalize players from established leagues?

I really think it depends on the rules of taking BIH, which I may have just glossed over when I was reading the rules.

To me, I would think a true 6 would be a player that isn't a great shotmaker and has no idea how to play shape. As long as a player can only use a BIH at the beginning of an inning, then I see no reason you wouldn't be able to beat someone like that.

The Strong Point

In the APA and other leagues a group of friends and co-workers form a team and over time as skill levels increase the team has to split up as they go over the maximum S/L total. Mike' s league eliminates this problem as there is no team maximum skill level so friends, family and co-workers can always remain together on the same team!

Brought to you by the architect of the least fair tournament I've seen in my 37 years around pool. Has anyone forgotten Sigel's bye all the way into the final at the first IPT event? That event is, perhaps, the standard by which all other unfair tournaments must be judged.

Hope this works out, but Sigel is hardly a role model for fair play. Let's hope he'll proceed with objectivity. I'll be rooting for him and wish him success.

Yup, mike went 0-1 in that tournament and finished in 2nd place, pocketing $100k. This after winning $150k in an ipt exhibition against loree Jon . Comical.

Here's a great idea for speeding up play (4s and 5s are very low-skilled players in the Sigel System): "10. For any player level 4 and above (5-6), he may use a designated breaker to open up the table for him. This will be allowed for every break in a match for level 4 and above."

Also, it says the Vegas tourney will be on 4X8s. They're going to need a big venue.

Well I guess Im consider a pro

Do you think that this will open the flood gates for sandbagging?

If it does work it will demolish the APA and their shenanigans. :welcome:

I once talked to a bunch of APA players in my league about the poor payouts and how much they were getting scammed. Most leagues around the nation are 5-7 bucks a nights. In NOVA the league operator was charger 10-11 a week to the players!! They defended it by saying they could win a trip to Vegas. Oh FFS enough with VEGAS!! I tell them you show up and play against a bunch of sandbaggers. That 3 in his town wipe his backside with your SL6 game. First place gets your team 5k?? How much did you spend all year (beer, food, league fees...) and how much do you get back if you finish 2nd in the league?? A trophy and oh... Please BUY our patches?? Go F yourself :yeah:

Sorry to go off on the APA but I carry much disdain for it

I really hope it succeeds but I have my doubts with all the cheaters out there...
