Looks like USA has a very strong team for this year's Mosconi Cup. However, I always wondered why they never chose Rob Saez to be on the team. The guy always seems to finish high in tournaments and obviously is mentally tough.

I can't say anything bad about Saez, because I've never heard bad things about him. But just looking at some of his results, he's only won 5 tournaments since 2008, and those looked like they weren't super tough fields.

Robb -- with two "b's" to his first name -- Saez is dedicated professional pool player who gives his all in every event.

I'm not sure how to say this without it coming across wrong, but Robb doesn't hang with pool's darlings, the ones who are on the industry members' lists, the dancing monkeys who put money in their pockets.

To his credit, Robb Saez is *not* a follower and is the captain of his own ship; thus, why he may have been over looked for consideration to the Mosconi Cup.

With no professional tour in America, it is absolutely ridiculous to rate one player above another. With regional tours banning or handicapping pro-caliber players, it doesn't provide a good measuring stock.

I've known Robb since he lived in New England. I remember sitting in a Philadelphia hotel room with him and a few other players one day, relaxing between matches at the Capital City Classic. Robb was still living in New England. He poured his heart out to me stating that he wanted to cultivate his skills and become a professional pool player. He was passionate -- and still is -- about pool.

I wish Robb all the best. He's a good kid in my book.

Keith, Ray the stakehorse, and Robb Saez in Quincy, Massachusetts, on the Joss Tour.

I know Robb and played him a few times ,, Robb has a great high gear however he can be a bit of a head case ,, I have seen it more than once and although he's a good player I don't see him as a top player not that we always put out our best anyway

Robb is a very solid player who has never been one of the most elite. He is not a victim of the system, just somebody whose results have never merited him serious consideration for Team USA. This year's Team USA has four guys out of five with at least one US Open 9-ball title and should have had five, as Hatch's selection over Deuel still baffles me.

Robb, a valued friend of mine, is not really in the conversation. I'd love to see him garner the kind of results that would change that.

Corey

Do you think Corey just decided "been there, done that" with the Mosconi Cup?

I believe Corey may have been disappointed that he was not selected this year, but I don't think he will ever let it bother him.

One thing about Corey Deuel is his strong sense of well-being and self confidence. He definitely knows who he is. That's what separates him from the rest. Plus, he is still quite popular with the ladies. ;)

No, he was just stiffed here. The Mosconi Cup offers $7,500 to members of the losing team, a big payday in our sport, so nobody opts to skip it. If you win, you get $15,000.

I love a man in a pink shirt. Shows strength.

You have to look for results and pick your best tournament players. The group that we have is pretty well suited. And I do normally like Corey a tad over Hatch in short races, like Mosconi. However, given this years break spot Hatch is my favorite. Now, if it were gambling in a long race everything changes. Hatch, in his prime, would have had too high a gear for CD.

Hard to play when you are constantly on your phone.

And Corey didn't get picked 'cause they didn't want anyone ordering turkey dinners during the match.

I feel both Hatch & Deuel should be on the team. My OWN issue was the "Strickland over Deuel" choice.

Deuel should have been picked over Strickland in my book.
Deuel acts more professional, has won it before, is more flexible, more level-headed, and makes for a better teammate.

Strickland has proven himself to be an embarrassment over the years and still so; think argument with Jeremy Jones during Bonus Ball.
I DON'T CARE HOW TALENTED SOMEONE IS—DOESN'T GIVE THEM THE RIGHT TO ACT UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!

The team is going to regret picking Strickland again.

Strickland over Hatch is a no-brainer. Earl has been phenomenal of late, getting to the finals of the Steinway Classic in August in which he narrowly lost to Shane in the final. He also won the title at Turning Stone XXI in September. If Hatch has done or won anything of note in the last two years, I'm not aware of it.

Strickland, in my mind, is the fourth most deserving player to be on Team USA, behind, Johnny, Rodney and Shane, and is far more deserving than Corey.
