Why not Saez for Mosconi Cup???

I feel both Hatch & Deuel should be on the team. My OWN issue was the "Strickland over Deuel" choice.

Deuel should have been picked over Strickland in my book.
Deuel acts more professional, has won it before, is more flexible, more level-headed, and makes for a better teammate.

Strickland has proven himself to be an embarrassment over the years and still so; think argument with Jeremy Jones during Bonus Ball.
I DON'T CARE HOW TALENTED SOMEONE IS—DOESN'T GIVE THEM THE RIGHT TO ACT UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!

The team is going to regret picking Strickland again.

Could not agree more!!

Earl has the best winning record playing in the Mosconi Cup...
..65% match winning record...he's been on 9 winning teams.

It would be nice if he acted like Mother Teresa, but Earl makes balls
when it counts....and that's the bottom line when the smoke clears.

C'MON EARL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was about to say they might get to bust me if Shuff and Rob played. No offense to Brandon but Rob plays rotation better.

Rob didnt play better then Brandon last time they played for money, Brandon won the money playing 9 ball, mite of been 10 ball, but still it was rotation!

But i would agree, they play about the same speed.

But either one of them couldnt or wouldnt beat SVB, Earl, Archer, Morris or Hatch in any rotation match for money!

Hatch would beat Corey playing rotation!

I'm not sure hatch would beat Corey
Mike d beat hatch in tar if I remember right

That's just my personal opinion that robb plays better. And if cory and hatch play a rotation set pm me and I'll take the US OPEN champion. I can promise Mike D couldn't beat cory like he did hatch.

Don't sell Dechaine short. Here's a list of all the American pros that had a top 10 finish in both the US Open 10 ball and the US Open 9-ball.

Beginning of List
Mike Dechaine

End of list.

Mike's always a tough out.

Selling mike short and putting him in the same caliber as cory are two different things. Mike has a lot of things to accomplish before he is even close to Cory's credentials. JMO

I have to agree that tin cups don't mean much when it comes to endurance runners -- like Chris Bartram, for example.

As well, some horses don't get to run in the big thoroughbred races, so their speed is never truly clocked.

Pool politics is selective on who gets to play in the high-profile events. It helps if you are friends with Johnny Archer. :)

LMFAO now that's a good one

Who exactly do you think he could beat in a gambling match of the U.S. players?

SVB - Not a chance
Johnny Archer - No way
Rodney Morris - No way
Earl Strickland - No way
Dennis Hatch- Closest match but he would still lose

I created this topic just to see what other players thought about Saez playing in the Mosconi cup. However, I think a lot of you didn't get exactly what I was getting at. Everyone knows that the Mosconi Cup is extremely mentally demanding, a lot of nerves and pressure. The reason I thought Robb would be good for the team is because of the pressure. Lets face it, the races are very short and all of these players can run 5 packs etc... I don't think its a matter of who can beat who in a race to 100 etc.. I think you need very mentally tough players to deal with the pressure and Robb seems to be one of those guys that puts him self in action games a lot and probably would not get fazed to much by European soccer fans in the crown blowing air horns lol, much less the other players on the opposing team. Races to 5 are short, mental strength is key in my opinion in this event!

True, but this thread has nothing to do with career credentials. It is about current skill level. The four biggest rotation pool events played on US soil in 2013 were:

Derby City Nine Ball: Dechaine 3rd, Deuel, 34th
Ultimate Ten Ball: Dechaine 7th, Deuel didn't play
US Open 10-ball: Dechaine 7th, Deuel, 49th
US Open 9-ball: Dechaine 9th, Deuel, 13th

As far as 2013 is concerned, the comparison is extremely one sided in favor of Mike.

Mike D. didn't handle the Mosconi Cup pressure very well though, when he was on the team. I have heard the pressure is like no other tournament.

True, his rookie effort as a Mosconi Team member was a disappointment, but his pedigree is beyond question, and once selection of the team returns to being on merit, Mike will be a member of Team USA pretty often.

If Cory put a 1\4 of his ability to work dechaine is out classed.
How'd he handle the pressure Jayson Shaw put on him. I would give odds that I'm in a high percentage that knows Mike D is not in Cory's class.
