15 Ball Ghost Rating Drill

Took another run at this - might be my new addiction.

I only did 8 racks and then after the video was offloaded I realized I was short and added 2 at the back-end. So it was 8 racks with 30 minutes of practice before the last 2 :)

Thanks for doing this Bieber - I think it will improve short rack rotation games for sure.

I saw how Joe was racking and then thought - he is the rack master, there might be something to this :) Thanks again Joe.

1-2-1-1-3-3-3-2-0-1 for 17 BIHs. I missed some silly ones too but made some I probably could have missed.

Cheers,
Gerry

Are you trying to motivate me! Forget about it lol It is fun though.
Good shooting, Merry Christmas and here's to a New Year of American Rotation in Canada :)

To the OP thanks for the New game!!!!!!

On the break shot, if you shoot the 1 without taking ball in hand, do you not count that as a ball in hand?

By the way, the 10 ball Magic Rack works very well for racking if you have decent balls - much tighter than most hand racks will get.

Great shooting, Gerry!

I didn't give that any thought, but I think that's what Gerry and Joe have been doing, and I think that's fine.

Consider it a way to save a ball in hand.

So technically, it is possible (although not probable) that you could score lower than a 10.

Of course, if someone managed to do that, they might not want to post their score and risk losing all future action :grin-square:

You succeeded in making me practice Gerry lol and I failed in beating the 17! Had 16 going in to last rack, took a 3 :( You're still the reigning Champ :)

Yes a 10 is now possible and while it may not be very likely it will still improve the many players that try to get they're, very good practice.

Yeah, I think anyone that can score a high A or better, is capable of beating anyone in a 9/10 ball match.

Doesn't mean they have too, though. I'm sure there are people out there that can get high scores, but would fall apart in competition. However, I imagine that anyone can improve their individual game by practicing this drill.

Not for long I suspect - it is your fault anyhow for showing me how to play inside :)

Cheers buddy!

I just did it. Video below.

Score:
Rack : BIH (or max) : Balls pocketed
1 : 6 : 10
2 : 5 : 15
3 : 5 : 15
4 : 5 : 15
5 : 3 : 15
6 : 3 : 15
7 : 6 : 14
8 : 6 : 12
9 : 5 : 15
10 : 6 : 7

Total score: 50

A few comments:
1. The rule are too hard to understand with what is a 1 BIH penalty and what is not.
2. The rating is WAY WAY WAY off for lower level players. I've been gambling for 20 years with open to D and banger players. I put myself at a solid C+ rating, sometimes breaking into the B territory. I scored a 50 on the drill.

A "D" player I highly doubt would run 1 complete rack out of 10. I feel these rating systems are not linear. What I mean is the jump between B and A if 10 points, the jump between D and C might be 30 points, and C and B might be 20 points. They are not equal jumps. A D player is not a favoriet to run 3 balls in rotation, when only 3 are on the table. A "C" player is not the favorite to run 5 balls in rotation, when there are only 5 on the table.

3. After the first couple of racks, I decided to take BIH anytime I wanted to, even if I just wanted a better shot. I'm not sure if the rules allowed that. But if they didn't allow that, then for sure I would have never cleared all 15 balls. No way.

4. With the BIH anytime rule, after the first couple of racks, I scored 50.

5. Again, I'm pretty sure of my C+ rating. I can beat the 4 ball ghost (4 total balls on the table) slightly more than 50 percent of the time. I can give the 6 ball to D players and beat them. I need the 6 to 8 balls from B players, depending on how strong they are. And I don't play A or above players anymore. They are just too far out of my league, regardless of the weight. I learned that after many thousands of dollars wagered.

Nice Nick - it is a fun drill and makes 9/10 ball feel a lot more open afterwards.

The grid - do you use that for training?

Gerry

Yes it was fun for sure.

Gerry, yes I use the grid for training. I wanted the lines to show up on camera, so when I miss a shot (or position), I make a written note of the time stamp, then I can go back in the video and set it up easily and practice. My theory was this way I'd be practicing my weaknesses.

I first had the lines in white tailors crayon, but they were too hard to pick up in the video. I just redid them in black sharpie last week and really like it. They don't distract me at all while playing.

Guys, if you never hear from me again tell the police it was my wife but she might have an insanity defense. I was going to give it a go when she asked "What are you doing?" I told her and then got hit with the "I wanna try". Well I warned her, 10 Racks will make you crazy, she is on 2nd rack and about 12 BIHs. Bad news is I'm not allowed to go to another room. I'm scared:eek:

I played around with it. This is one of the best drills I've ever done - great idea BieberLvr. Frustrating at times but addictive, which is what makes practice fun.

To score well like Joe and Gerry did, it requires a tremendous amount of extended concentration, making this a mental drill as well.
