15 Ball Ghost Rating Drill

How about a rule that a player can't intentionally play the balls out of sequence, with the penalty being 2 fouls?

This is discourage a player from intentionally breaking a cluster out of order.

Yeah I was thinking about that. That might be why there is a 2 foul deduction for it to penalize more.

So one strategy could be to take a foul by breaking out a cluster while not shooting the lowest ball first.

That is exactly why I made it a 2 foul penalty.

Although, I'm not sure intentional needs to be specified.

After all, with the option to take ball in hand at any time, I don't think a player should ever unintentionally not hit the lowest ball.

Why would it be 2 fouls for not hitting lowest ball - that seems silly. My 15 won't be a 15 then. I suggest keep it simple, every time you miss or scratch it is a BIH. No other rules needed.

Same with spotting balls - no need to make it more complicated IMO.

I answered the reasoning behind 2 fouls on a bad hit, but what do you mean about the spotting balls rules?

I think if an OB goes off the table, it should definitely be spotted.

The only other time a ball would be spotted is if it goes in and you scratch, and that's ONLY if it wasn't the lowest ball that went in.

I have another question. If you miss, it's a 1 point penalty. But then with that one point penalty do you get a bih after the miss, or would that be two total points for the bih?

A miscue for example...

About to go try this tonight....

few questions....

Does 15 spot if it goes down early???

Can I rack 15 on spot instead of the 1?

I can not get the balls to disperse beyond the side pocket...Regardless of break spot, speed, etc... So I was going to try moving the rack up... I wish my table broke like Gerry's for just 1 day, but not possible.... Btw, good shooting Gerry... I've watched most of your ghost videos from the past.

I just did it again with the new rules. I got a 47. Some racks I gave away super easy points, but that's how it goes, lol.

15 stays down, but you must continue shooting until the rest of the balls are pocketed.

That's a great question about the rack spot. I personally wouldn't care, but I might have to defer to the others.

What does everyone else think? Should the player have the option of putting the 1 or 15 on the spot when breaking?

Question - after each miss you get a bih and the miss + the bih only count as 1 point?

Correct, but if you miss, and have a shot, you don't have to take a BIH if you don't want. An example of where that might happen would be if you missed and the ball just hung in the pocket.

A miss doesn't cost a point unless you take bih?

What is your score BeiberLvr ? :)

I had mentioned earlier in the thread that I tried it over the weekend, but got frustrated and only made it through a couple racks.

The frustration stemmed from the horrible breaks. The pool hall I go to has those cheap plastic racks, and I was having a hard time getting a good rack. So every time I broke, I had tons of clusters. The majority of the time, there were 5-6 balls just bunched together in the rack area. I swear I had one break where I think only 5 balls had a pocket.

I'm just going to suck it up when I play this weekend, and try it again. I'll try to record it, so when I score over 100, you guys can see why :)

I'm just estimating though, that with a decent spread and minimal clusters, I might be able to score in the 45-60 range. High hopes though.

Oops - after a review of the video I was a 15 as well Joe :)

Check out the brain cramp in rack 6 - wow!

Gerry

Nice 13 lol
Good news bad news, I watched mine and have 16 also :( but I made a 4 ball and scratched counting that as 2 so I don't know. Funny thing is I felt like I played good with a 16 and then watching it I was like wt* this is sh** lol Always told my students to get a better perspective, film and watch! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_V7FQcyKoM&feature=youtu.be
