Pro Player Max Eberle recalls "The Most Energetic & Electric Moment in Pool Times 10"

so what

I have said this on another thread and will say it again...........

I hope C.J. continues his promotional style 10 times over and makes many millions of dollars.....and all you people out there who can't stand it can go back to your threads about how pool players can't make a living because all they do is shoot pool and don't know how to do anything else......

PRESS ON, C.J. !!!

Im so sorry that life must be so bad that you feel it is a necessity to pull others down or attempt to insult rather than help ..someone needs a hug badly!

I couldn't agree with you more Elizabeth. CJ Wiley and Mary Avina have put together this epic documentary of a feat that has never been done in pool, and he is being ridiculed for promoting it. CJ shares his knowledge on these forums, he's a champion, and he has a passion to try and save the game. Earl Strickland's feat of running 11 racks for a million dollars in a professional 9 ball tournament, is something no one has ever seen, in the history of the game..
I'm not sure if these people received a pounding from CJ and he emptied their pkts back in the day or what? My question would be, why make a documentary and not promote it?? If people made movies and didn't tell us, we would never go to the theatre right?? He's sharing exerps from the doc to promote it. That's the reason he shared Jay Helfert and Max's response to Earl's nearly impossible accomplishment and they were both there. These haters really do need hugs.

Not only do they have to attack CJ on every thread. They have to attack Mary as well. Keyboard bullies. Probably live in their parents basement. Same people wouldn't have the balls to say a word to CJ in person.

Myself, I could care less what CJ posts in the Main Forum.
I don't hate anyone or anything, Its a pretty strong word. I dislike a lot of things but live with them. Thats life.

The Cheesoid thing about this Promo is that it opens to the table lay out of the one, nine combo that Earl shot for his 11th rack.

There is a lot of canned cheering.

Next scene, Max is talking about the one, nine combo and says, "it looked nearly impossible".

Then, Mary is at CJs table with the same lay out as Earl had, one, nine combo and she shoots it in.

Like, how many tries did it take? One, maybe 20. Maybe she did it in one try.

Then, she steps back and stares at the camera as if to say, see, I can do it too.
Mean while, the same canned cheering going on int the back ground.

So, was it nearly impossible or can anyone do it if they shoot it enuff times.

Serious Cheese, thats all. Is the Doc about Earl or why does Mary have to be in it.
I wouldn't mind seeing it again but not if I have to suffer Mary duplicating Earls shots he made that day. To prove something to who?
Seriously, what does Mary making the same shot have to do with Earls legendary Million Dollar shot.
Anyone of us could do that one with enuff tries.
The point is, we/Mary weren't doing it after 10 racks with a Million on the line and a ton of pressure that Earl had on him at that moment.

Thats all, just me being b itchy. I do that once in a while.

Really??????????????

You don't get it why why people are annoyed by the NON-STOP self promotion?

You don't understand that a 2-3 threads literally about selling the same ****ing DVD doesn't really offer that much to the forum???

He a champion, sure. He's done a ton for, and in pool, yes. But what is he bringing to the seen now? The only time he will share a SMALL bit is if it's promoting one of his projects. If he were to share his experiences and stories at least 50% of the time he would catch far less shit. As I see it right now he does about 90% promotion, 10% being a genuine member here, and that what the other guys see. I'm not saying he should leave, just be more of a genuine member here.

He's already got at least 2 threads promoting the same "million dollar challenge" thing, hence the annoyance. Did Max Eberle's response to earl's feet really need a whole new thread???????

Big group hug for you too! Regardless, CJ keep doing what you do...haters will hate and only seek attention when they put others down!!! On that note, you are more than welcome to use my FB and Twitter accounts to promote anything for the good of cuesports- I would rather see and read positive aspects of pocket billiards than the countless post/remarks of complaints by Internet warriors that seek to destroy hard work by others..I for one wish everyone success in all that they attempt to accomplish as well as seeing dreams realized

actual crowd noise made after Earl "pinned" the "million dollar shot".

There is a lot of canned cheering.
.

The cheering is from the actual crowd noise made after Earl "pinned" the "million dollar shot".......any shot can be difficult if a million dollars is on it....that's the beauty of pressure and also when the Game becomes the most interesting and entertaining. imho '

'The Game is the Teacher' - it teaches us a lot about ourselves...who we truly are.

even people that don't like pool find Earl's feat engaging.

Yes, it would be an injustice to put out an epic movie without telling the public. We invested more than we can ever expect to get in return for showing 'Billiard's Perfect Miss' (on DVD)......this about the future of pool, and it's worthwhile to show the most historic event in it's history.....even people that don't like pool find Earl's feat engaging.

This is the logical place to start to bring the sport back into the public awareness.......the DVD is for the "pool world's" enjoyment, we are taking "dead aim" on getting this story into a TV, or Movie format.....only time will tell if this happens, and if not, we'll keep trying time after time, after time, after time, after time, after time......."Where there's a will, there's always a way".......'The Game is the Teacher'

The ONLY way to ADVANCE pool is to PROMOTE it!

CJ is attempting to PROMOTE pool and I think a lot of people are JEALOUS because he may be making a dollar or two in the process.

Isn't THAT what the rest of the pro players should be doing?

I think if MORE of them were to do something similar, then they wouldn't be broke and complaining all the time.

I have NO PROBLEM with CJ, or anybody else, promoting something that may "enhance" the game or get it into to publc's eye (where it has to be in order for people to become interested in it).

I know the DIFFERENCE between something that may be "useful" and something that is an old carnival scheme. There is no "magic potion" that can fix pool, but there are a lot of "remedies" that may work if used wisely.

Aloha. :)

'Billiard's Perfect Miss' - 17 Months in the Making

Here's some blog posts I made on this forum 17 months ago about the million dollar challenge 'Billiard's Perfect Miss'.....notice the dates and times of the posts...Mary Avina and I were interviewing Jay Helfert, Max Eberle and Earl Strickland back in August of 2012. This documentary didn't just "happen over night," it's been years in the making...17 years. :D

The Million Dollar Pool Man....the documentary
Posted 08-13-2012 at 06:55 PM by CJ Wiley
I'm finally getting recuperated from the Tupelo Miss. tournament....we videotaped great stories about the Million Dollar Challenge from Jay Helfert, who was the tournament director and Max Eberle, who was one of the up and coming stars (finished fourth)..and the 2 hour interview with Earl Strickland was something I will never forget....Earl revealed things that I would have never dreamed about preparation....it's too bad the public sees the "other end" of his genius...I believe now, more than ever he's the only man in history that could have ran 11 consecutive racks of 9-Ball with a Million Dollars on the line....and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to document the series of miraculous events that took place for him to achieve it.

The Earl Strickland Interview...The Million Dollar Challenge
Posted 08-13-2012 at 07:01 PM by CJ Wiley
I'm listening to Earl Strickland during our interview in Tunica Mississippi for the Million Dollar Challenge documentary.....he shared how he went about training to be able to run multiple racks "on call"..... his wife (at the time) said he looked at her on the drive to Dallas and said "I'm going to do it!!!".....can you imagine thinking you could run 10 racks in a row for a million dollars??? I honesty don't think anyone other than Earl would.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with CJ promoting pool. I believe that he has a bit up his sleeve for the future.

So yeah, who cares if he makes a few bucks to support his endeavors along the way.
If I were in the position, I wouldn't be taking that out of my pocket either.
I purchased his TOI vid and would be willing to buy any other of his products that I feel are going to benefit my game.
Honestly, I just skip over most of his Threads and if I open them, I see if there is any content that interests me and skim. If not, I close the thread and move on. fair enuff, right.

And I agree, the Pro Players should be helping as well, instead of hanging on the side lines waiting for someone else to do all the work, as per usual.

I have zero against Mary either. It was just the way I saw it. Earl's shot being hailed as nearly impossible and the next scene is her popping the same shot in.

To me, it kind of takes away from the hype of Earl making his nearly impossible Million Dollar shot, all for the sake of Mary being able to show the viewing audience that she can do it as well.

Not very well thought out in that scene. I know that Mary is a talented player. She can show case her talents in any other video if she needs to.

The Production Manager is the Teacher.

Ah, your desk is messier than mine.
Messy Desks Are Also the Teacher.

I just leave sticky notes all over.

Yes, you hit "the nail on the head"....the only reason I stand out in promotions is I'm one of the few that are doing what we ALL did back in the 80's and 90s.

I followed in the footsteps of Minnesota Fats, Willie Mosconi, Steve Mizerak, Mike Sigel, Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason, Allen Hopkins, Tom Cruise and other GREAT promoters of the Game........Jeanette Lee also followed in their footsteps and look what she's accomplished.
2003April_InsidePOOL.jpg

We are from a different "mold," - when someone says we are "relentless self promoters" we feel a sense of accomplishment.....because the Game relies on self promotion, it's not like the table can type posts and threads, talk and Direct Documentaries. :woot:

When we had all the players like Rempe, Sigel, Mizerak, Mosconi, Hopkins, Cowboy Jimmy Moore, UJ Puckett, etc promoting, pool was recognized by the public...maybe not in the best light, but it was not in darkness either. UJ was even on 60 Minutes as a Legendary Pool Hustler.

scenes are designed to get reactions and invoke emotion....to create an attachment

........It's not important for you to understand, after all you're not in the "movie business".....sometimes scenes are designed to get reactions and invoke emotion....and most of the time the person is completely unaware that it's happening.....to them.........right now.....as they breath in.....and out......and blink their eyes.....and feel the chair under them get suddenly warmer......and then they get a sudden desire reply......but how.....can .......they.....make ........sense.......now.....

Earl's opponent was a gentleman named Nick Mannino

That is correct, Nick is a very professional man that lives on the east coast, I think Penn. ....we talked on the phone a couple of years ago when I started this project.

A Movie on this happening would be just what Pool Needs Today--Start out as a rag tag kid with a dream and a cue and a car to ride to different spots and the last 30 min,,show what happened--Legendary To Say The Least--Play It Again Sam--CJ--Your Spot On Kid

right now.....as they breath in.....and out......and blink their eyes.....and feel the chair under them get suddenly warmer......and then they get a sudden desire reply......but how.....can .......they.....make ........sense.......now.....

Well, I'm not of the age to start wearing depends yet. I hope that I never watch a movie that is that good that makes my chair get warmer.

As my late Brother used to say. Doing a good deed is like peeing your pants in the winter. You get a warm feeling for a few seconds and then it gets cold.

And, I have been in a few movies. Enuff to know that I don't need the BS that goes along with it to make a few bucks. Stand in work is Shit.

glad you understood the joke......carry on. ;)

This was my last movie with Mia Kirshner and Connie Neilson.

I arranged for the country dancers in the bar scene and danced myself. I got paid a Stunt Mans wages for that one so was kind of worth it. Still, a huge hassle.
I was also in the grave yard scene but you couldn't see me in the trailer.

Story of my life. On the cutting room floor.

You know "what?" I think would change my mind about the "shameless" self promotion "if" 10 more threads about "the" same shit, "filled" with nut huggers about "how" much is being "added" to the forum. Nothing helps "me" grow my game, learn about pool, "cues," proper table mechanics, etc like some "shameless" self promoting "sales" pitches, and ridiculously "misused" "quotations"!

(O SHIT<<<< I just pointed out punctuation atrocities, I must have lost the interwebz today...)

Good luck, with this "documentary." The denser folks in this thread have turned me off completely to being a customer. I will put my money toward a good stream instead.

CJ, I hope you one day genuinely contribute with your wealth of knowledge. I think you can do FAR better than only coming here to pitch your products.

Good luck with your sale as they say in the wanted/for sale section...
