Was it a 32 men's field or 300 like a US open

What does it matter. CJ Wiley is one of the greatest living players and he is here. Has there been one single instance where someone has asked CJ a question about how to play on this forum where CJ has not taken the time to give a detailed answer from his perspective?

Many, many, many times. He seldom does anwers legit questions in a legit way, rather goes the route of the politician and seldom ever answers directly.

ESPN BATTLE OF THE SEXES EVENT at Santa Rosa Ca.

That field was strong, you got that right. He had to beat Earl Strickland to win the best of the men..The top man played the top lady in the final I believe. Jay would know more than I, but this field had Allison Fisher as well, and a lot of great men players....

The match with Vivian was called 'The ESPN Battle of the Sexes' which put the World Champion woman player up against the World Champion man player of that year. Vivian won against Allison in their finals and I got lucky against Oliver Ortmann in our finals.

Here's the proof:

Ya I saw the Earl match and Earl sell out dogging it I still wonder if he missed it on purpose after all he had a million large coming to his pocket and it was CJs event that allowed it to happen ,, I know I would have
I don't believe this was a open world event

Im pretty sure you are thinking about 2 totally different tournaments. The one where Earl ran the racks for the million, and CJ winning the ESPN world championship.

"The scorpion asked a frog to carry him across a river. The frog is afraid of being stung during the trip, but the scorpion argues that if it stung the frog, the frog would sink and the scorpion would drown. The frog agrees and begins carrying the scorpion, but midway across the river the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both. When asked why, the scorpion points out that this is its nature."

Well I haven't seen it. I have seen him answering from HIS PERSPECTIVE as a champion, usually with a story to illustrate the point, some pictures or a link to a video. Sometimes those answers are not what the "gurus" on AZB want to hear, what they believe but they are CJ's answers nonetheless.

Joey Gray and I discussed a little stroke technique yesterday. Maybe it's been discussed here, maybe not. But in the past month of playing lots of players there is a CLEAR difference between how a pro hits a ball and how a good amateur hits a ball.

And in conversation and demonstration with pros there is a CLEAR difference in how they see the game and approach the game.

So in my opinion this clear difference is a line that makes it harder for pros to communicate with amateurs in this type of environment. In a one on one session or even in a group session where a pro is teaching or demonstrating or even just kibitizing about how to play NO ONE that I have seen jumps up to argue with them and put them down. People listen and learn.

But on AZB many amateurs will argue with pros about how to play and how to see the game. That's a huge reason why a lot of pros HATE AZB.

Did I say that clearly enough?

THEY HATE AZB. Not hate Mike Howerton, not hate Jerry Forsyth, they HATE this FORUM and how the atmosphere here is. A lot of them think that most posters on AZB wouldn't bet a quarter on their own pool game but yet they KNOW everything about playing pool that is possible to know.

Did I mention that they HATE AZB?

Now I can tell them that there are loads of good people here and they will agree that individually there are many good folks. But the general TONE of this forum is one of deep DISRESPECT for anyone that is even slightly out of synch for the "textbook" method of playing pool.

So as a result MANY MANY MANY pros will sometimes read AZB and then decide to post on Facebook instead where they are treated with the respect their stature in this game deserves and where they can control the conversation to cut out the few trolls who decide to act like they are on AZB.

Just my opinion based on many conversations with pro players over the years. You can find ALL of them on Facebook though.

Keep on with your hero worship John. Maybe some day you will actually learn enought to understand what all has been said on here, but with your attitude, I seriously doubt it. Maybe some day you will see the whole picture, and not just what you want to see.

And here I thought the only thing that separates you and Shane was 10,000 hours of practice WTF was I thinking

I have a feeling, JB, that pros who don't like coming to AZ probably don't
like ANY open forum.

They can't take the heat so they're staying out of the kitchen.
I think this situation speaks more badly for the pros than AZ.

Some are well-spoken...some make as much sense as a Valley Girl.

I understand your point and don't agree with it. I think that pros SHOULD be given more respect in an open forum, the same respect that they are ALWAYS given in the pool room.

But online, as everyone knows by now, some people feel much freerer to be assholes than they allow themselves to be in real life.

In the virtual reality game Second Life they have a section of the world called Jessie where there are no rules. Whoever goes there can be killed at any instant which means they have to login again and start in whatever part of the world that they have as their home base (could be different now) - anyway the reason this section of the world was set up was to contain all the trolls who were disrupting life elsewhere across the Second Life platform.

Over in Jessie it's an anything goes format. In the rest of the world it's much more civilized interaction. People are free to go to Jessie as they wish and fade the heat of the kitchen so speak but it's a rotten place in most people's assessment.

So while I completely understand the heat of the kitchen concept as one who has been dealing with it for years I also think it's a sad state when the kitchen is unnessarily hot. I am on a few other forums where professionals in that industry hang out, leather and woodworking and they are treated with respect and deference and in return they dispense pro advice that is priceless.

On those forums there are MANY moderators who quickly and swiftly surgically remove any comments that are out of line and who gently remind the poster who made them that what they did is not allowed. Thus threads NEVER have a chance to develop into flame wars and threads like this one simply do not exist EVER.

How do you think that guys like Shane got to the level of insight that they have? ONE of the things that separates me and guys like Shane and CJ is that level of deep practice and experience.

It's people like you Mark Andrews, who have zero respect for people that have made it to the top of their fields that keeps most of those people away from places like this. Guys like you seem to delight in trolling pros and frankly you have nothing to lose because in the end you're a nobody in pool while a pro can get a bad rep if he allows himself to blow up at a troll's instigating crap.

You know why John Schmidt doesn't post here often or at all any more? Because he found himself up at 4am responding to a troll who couldn't run 5 balls in a row with ten tries while his girlfriend was waiting in a nice cozy bed alone.

Wouldn't it be great if John popped in to answer straight pool questions? Nah, we don't want a world champion here if he can't fade the trolls.

Perhaps you're right. I am sure CJ has responded to you in less than kind ways. Is that him "fading the heat"?

I agree that you have had far more interaction with him than I have. I also understand you dislike him intensely.

Has nothing to do with hero worship though. I have a specific point that I have repeated constantly. If you don't get it then it's you who has the blinders on.

I say that CJ's presence has been far more beneficial to the forum than not. Over the body of content he has provided has been entertaining and helpful to many. If the price for that is to see a few infomercial posts that can be EASILY scrolled past then so be it.

As for your personal beef with him....that's between you two and it takes two to fight as I have been reminded of quite often. I don't know if you ever tried to work it out by PM but I do that often and it keeps differences from erupting into flame wars on the open forum.

I suppose that if I were a good amateur player like you who felt the need to argue pool with a pro I would probably try to do it in private to see if we could reach a consensus first. That's just me though.

What makes you think I haven't pm'd him? I have. The gist of it is that I am too far below him to even consider anything I have to say. He's here for hero worship to soothe his massive ego, and nothing else.
