6 Months and untold hours of labor later! (56k go roll a joint)

It all looked so good, I didn't even notice the cloth at first. CONGRATS and ENJOY!!!! :thumbup2:

Awesome job! I'm pretty jealous. My daughter moved into our lower level and I lost my pool table. Was wondering, due to the tile floor (beautiful btw) is it loud?

There is a bit of an echo in the room, mainly because its empty other than the table. It's not as bad as you'd think, but it is noticeable. I will be adding more furnishings and a nice sound system (walls are already pre-wired for it). I'm hoping that takes care of the echo. I'm so glad my GC table doesn't have the ball return....the clunking and clanging of that would be just plain annoying. As I populate the room, I will report back on that issue.

Post

Its 5/8 on the ceiling, half inch on the walls, which was path recommended by several commercial contractors...All is well, ceiling is nice and flat...and holy jeez that stuff was heavy!! That was my concern, the weight....but its holding fine, even after all the thumping and banging in the attic wiring the lights in....It was screwed in well. The stringers attached to the underside of the trusses for the ceiling drywall are 24" OC, with additioinal cross support every 4ft via a nailer on the truss...its not coming down, if that's your concern. There wasn't any specific drywall for ceilings around here...other than possibly some 4x8 sheets of 3/8"....looked like mobile home drywall. I wanted 12' sheets, fewer butt seams.

For whoever mentioned it being a 200k job....well I'll tell on myself a little... Not counting the cost of the table, this project cost me $24,300. I put a pencil to it last week, getting ready for taxes. I budgeted 25k before I started, I saved a ton doing it myself, but I have done a lot of construction work in the past, so I wasn't a total nubb. I came in a couple grand under budget, and used the extra to do the nicer tile floor.....rather than laminate. Carpet was never an option.....having to move the table to replace nasty carpet is silly... I have plenty of extra tile in the event a ball cracks one.... It really isn't hard to pop a tile out and replace it, grout it back in, and done.

5/8th is da nutz, my mistake. I've cranked up 5/8th board with one of the boad jacks and it's no fun.. For years'
We hung 5/8ths board in garages and most of em had 10' ceilings....

You have a beautiful home! You definitely did it right.

Really sweet..,. the beautiful tile buys you a temp pass on the color of the cloth ! :)
Congrats sir; really nice job,

I love the tile work and the finished product. I see lots of fun times coming!

Very nice sir... Believe it or not, the new Balabushka blonde chalk works well with a red cloth. It blends better than the blue does..

PM me a shipping address and I'll send you a few cubes to try out on it..

Wow, much appreciated bud!! PM sent!

That looks great! You'll find out that playing on a hard surface for a longish time is not fun though hehe.

The red cloth is of course an affront to all real player  but the worst part about it is if you use red chalk to match, it's killer on shafts and ferrules and clothing and hands. I've yet to see a place that uses red chalk that did not have red tinted shafts.

I am looking for a used table now and for some reason red is the most popular home table color. Almost 90% of tables I've looked at have red cloth.

There was actually one guy that said "he replaced the nasty green cloth with a nice red" in his ad LOL.

Enjoy the place!

Beautiful! Very envious!

May I ask however, what is the "roll a joint" reference about?

Means that if you are accessing el iterneto via dial up, click the link and go get stoned, coz the pages that shall load are gonna take so long to load.

Of course, we know ou are a grown man and you and joeya and helfert have a bong,

Nothing like some good support shoes....they're cheaper than carpet and since I use that room as my main entry for the building (customers use the front), carpet would be nasty in no time flat.....take a mop to the tile, good as new and will last the life of the building. ;)

Been using blue chalk. Tried red chalk one time, it made more of a mess and stood out on the wine colored cloth a lot worse than the blue. The blue residue comes up easy with a vac. Maintenance and regular care is the key. ;)

I wouldn't say green is nasty (I'm partial to tournament blue for public places though).....its fine for a bar or a pool hall....but for my home setup, I wanted something a little different.... I know I'm the antichrist for this, but I really do like it. Unconventional cloth color signs of an inferior player? While I'm certainly no pro, I wouldn't go that far.

Enjoy the place!
I most certainly will, and thanks!! it took 3 days, but I finally ran a rack of 9-ball without a single miss or foul!! I was proud of myself after my 17yr absence!!

Look, man. We know you are new and not fully in tune with the azbros, but wtf?

Would you hurry up and invite us over? I like hoppy ales, particularly cascade hops and while my pee is clean, so sad.

My noob status hasn't worn off yet?! Jeez what kind of forum is this!! j/k of course....I'm the n00b for life, the story of my life! :D

Anyone who wants to come over and play is welcome. BYOA. In warmer weather, I'll throw a rack of ribs on the grill while rack 'em up on the table.

Nice!! Probably a $200k job in NY but isnt that floor gonna be rough on the feet/legs?

It is very nice. But that is also being the first thing I thought. Nothing beats some thick padded carpet for shooting longer hours. In this situation, tile throughout with a nice carpet around the table area would have been pretty nice.

Nice looking room. Congratulations

The roll a joint reference is because the pictures would take forever to load on a 56k connection speed.

Good stuff man! Congratulations.

When you get rid of the red cloth, as others have suggested, to which I agree completely, swap the table for a Diamond Pro-Am while you're at it. And don't forget the table light too.

Shall you decide to keep the red table you should still get the light as the lighting could be better based from the pics.

This is one of the best playing tables I've ever played on...but probably the most unforgiving table. I noticed when the mechanic was rewrapping the rails there was small rubber shims at the ends of each rail....apparently the pockets have been narrowed by about half an inch (1/4 on each end). The mechanic asked if I wanted him to remove them, I said no.....just leave them there. If you slop anything on this table, its a miracle.

I've already said the lighting will be addressed in the original post..... Give me a little time good sir!! :)

It looks like a beautiful construction job. My concern would be the room acoustics, There are no sound deadening materials. Isn't it noisy?

Agreed on the red chalk - it also stains your cues and wrap. Tan chalk works well on a red cloth.
