I'm curious where the balance point is on this cue. If you don't know what that is, joint the cue and find the point where you can balance it on your finger and then measure from the butt to that point.

In other words, back in the day I do not believe it was as big a concern as people make it today. Fatter butts tend to be butt heavy, but moving balls around in the tall grassy felt of yesteryear meant heavier cues.
Even into the 80's its very hard to find a Gus Szam under 19.8 oz.

Absolutely, JV. It took a hell of a stroke to draw a mudball the length of the table on that old worsted stuff or that rubber-backed bar table stuff. That is why so many of those old cues were 20oz and up.
