TV crews at the DCC

I am going to have two different sports networks following me around the Derby. The History Channel and ESPN are coming to DCC with cameras.
They have both been in contact with me for the last few weeks. I am going to be dukking them into the hot shot gamblers,

Very cool Freddy! Hey... Do you have an idea what they're hoping the finished production will be and when it may be aired? I wanna see, I wanna watch!

Work it brother! Good Luck!

"This week on the History Channel Pool Action Stars see Little Pooter dump off not one but three backers in a single game. Also drama arises when White Willy runs out of Adderall in the middle of a two day session."

Everyone better be careful what they wish for. Reality TV is not going to make pool look good. Think more Honey Boo Boo and less Duck Dynasty. They will find the worst possible people to put in front of the camera and then just let them act like as big of fools as they are capable of.

If you subscribe to the any pub is good pub school then it wont matter and I suppose at this point nothing could make it any worse. I just dont know if I could take watching two guys scream at each other over a $100 a game one pocket on my TV set. Hopefully Freddy can steer them towards things that dont look retarded but my guess is they wont be interested in those.

Well spoke.

I spent many of my professional years dealing with those in the television media and what people do not realize is that dealing with TV is a double-edged sword. Someone says, "TV will be there, cool." Hmmm, not so fast -- once there you will have no control of them, what they record, and most importantly, how they will edit the final product. Like I said, it's a double-edged sword...

true... goodness knows what they will do with a hearing impaired guy, who was bullied in school... and through hard work, dedication has made the most of his talent and is now the best American player and possibly the best on the planet..

. of course seeing him play 1 pkt giving 15 to 3 for $30,000 or $1000 a game 1-ball one pocket against a legend of the game or crushing another one in a race to 100 would be bad for the image of the game... ... and then after he wins ... and leaves the catch phrase would be...

Guy who just lost says: " You see that's the thing.. after playing that guy... No one and I mean No one.. yells... Shane! come back Shane!"

I promise to shovel enough shit at those birds that they will need knee boots. Whatever happens, they aint gonna control me. I am too old and too ornery to be influenced by money or success, or women for that matter.

Now there is a line that deserves air time!

More common sense from JCIN. I wish the right people from pool could get time with some people with actual high end media outlet potential and actually do something that would be good for pool and getting it in front of the public. It's a beautiful game/sport but so easily maligned by the recurring bad actors that are fairly pervasive throughout its history. Oh well Scooter will be on TV I'm sure, and pool will go back in the closet for another decade.

While a lot of us old timers would love watching it, I just don't see how shining a national spotlight on what is an illegal activity in most places is going to help pool at all. Not to mention bringing it to the attention of the IRS. ???? Remember what stopped the Johnson City tournaments?

well The Atlantic magazine isn't exactly "underground" reading material ... you tell me if you would not be interested in seeing more of this guy and the sport he plays after reading this

the best thing about this is I was there!

My final thought on all of this? I only wish that Detroit Whitey, CornBread Red, Fatty, Ronnie, Cole, Omaha Fats, and a few other beauties were still around to parade in front of the cameras.

But hey Freddie don't forget to let them know there is mostly honor amongst the gamblers and only a small percentage if stiffs and dirtbags !

Hence the good action list vs. the bad action list !

That might be the best mainstream article I have read on pool. Never seen it before. Thanks for the link.

When gambling is used as a story telling method like in that article its great.
