I will never go to big daddies again.

This is twice now that I've driven 20 m minutes to come play at big daddies that they've been closed. That's pathetic. I will never go there again.they should at least have a message at their phone number saying that they are closed.

Now my nights ruined for pool.

I live in a city with an "actual" population of over 100,000 people and probably the highest per capita income in the entire of North America and there is no pool hall at all. You have to drive about 4+ hours south to get to one. Feel blessed you have one you can refuse to go to...

I don't care how far I have to drive. I love to go to pool halls. Two nights ago I drive an hour and a half to go down and play with black balled at a poll hall in Virginia but when a poll hall is never open had no posted hours and no message or anyone answering the phone that's pathetic.

How would you feel if you drive those four hoursto find they decided not to open that day?

Then you give them the benefit of the doubt and drive down again to find that they decided to not open again?

Also if that's the case maybe you should open one. ..

I can't help being curious to know if you called them and let em have it a bit? I think I may have reminded them about a little thing called respect for patrons and a sprinkle of manners to boot!

Three years ago, I drove 20 mins to a pool hall. Today, I drive over 45 mins. to play pool because the first place closed it's doors forever.

I agree that there could be better communication and respect for the patrons. It could be worse though.

Not unusual at all....

Poolrooms are losing business consistently to other forms of entertainment so when it gets late and the leagues are all done for the evening the houseman/woman/owner often just closes not caring or worrying about a few crumbs of income lost in doing so. This is unfortunate to the serious and action players that usually have to wait until the leagues are done to get a good table. If you study this scenario carefully you will see why pool is doomed.

You know it's a buyer's market for good used tables.
Time to put together a business plan.

Big Daddy's

Big Daddy's closes at 9:00pm on Sunday's and they are closed all day on Wednesday. I believe it is posted on the front door. Having said that, the owners Rick and Cindy, are some of the finest people you would ever want to meet! They host the majority of the MD State Championships, local regional tournaments as well as monthly and league tournaments.

Big Daddy's is one of, along with Champion Billiards and Top Hat, the finest rooms in MD!

Might be a long term plan. The lease rates in Fort McMurray are highly prohibitive so a upscale pool hall/billiards club is likely only a reasonable investment if one buys land, builds the building, and doubles up the pool hall investment with the property speculation as one of the major goals.

A relatively small (0.25 acre) piece of land zoned for retail in the outskirts of the downtown area of Fort McMurray is about 2.5 million dollars atm. There is virtually nowhere in the city that is much cheaper then that and zero land currently available for sale anywhere else anyhow.

Then go check out Top Hat in Parkville and Magic 8 Billiard Cue Club in Cockeysville.

Did you move Jaden? Or just camping out a bit on the east coast for a work stint?

And more importantly - details on you vs Black Balled please! :grin-square: BB and I have tried to get together in the past, but distance and schedules inhibited it.

You on the other hand were my little girl. ;) ;) ;) I REALLY enjoyed our get together and hope we can do it again! Jaden is good folk and ridiculously intelligent and talented.

Stop your crying and go to BP, they have a barbox there lol. When I first moved here to Fort Mac, I searched online and found the local room. Great was my first thought. I hopped into the car drove down the street to find no hall. Sucks driving 4.5 hrs for game of pool.

I inquired on rental rates here... $56+ sq/ft. So, I don't see a room opening anytime soon.

The average household income here is $180,000 year. I'm guessing this must be one of the highest anywhere in the world.

Are you in Fort Mac Celtic? I don't think a high scale room would go well there, There is to many young kids with money and attitudes and way to much drugs in the city nothing stays high class there for long. There was a pool room there at one time called the rook or some other name like that it was over by show girls I think it's been awhile.

Hey Wedge. Do you know the reason for the strange hours?

Your up here too now Jason? Did not know that. You must be talking about BP's downtown because the BP's up in Timberlea has no table. We have one in Thickwood Paddy McSwiggins but it is a piece of junk and the cues are worse.

I think a really upscale pool hall/sports lounge could have a chance of making it up here but it would be one risky venture with the cost of doing business up here including lease rates and staff.

Average household income in Fort McMurray though?

$186,782.

There is money begging to be spent here.
