She sharks - reality series

Can this even be done without it being 90% scripted?

I'm sure plenty of random people in bars won't mind playing women for $5 sets with a bunch of cameras and a production crew hovering around the table, right?

That's a good point. I was also thinking I'm sure these unknowns will have to sign a release to be filmed.

Girl: Hey, this film crew is following me around. Do you want to gamble?
Guy: Sure. (Easy money right here, baby. No chick can beat me.)
1 hour, and $200 later...
Girl: Well that was fun. Thanks for playing.
Guy: ...(What the hell just happened?)
Producer: Oh, by the way. Would you mind signing this sheet of paper? It just says we can put this on TV and not pay you for it.

I'm sure as it gets further along, we'll hear more about the logistics of how everything is to work, and I do hope it works. I love the idea.

LOL... I actually think most people wouldn't mind as long as they knew they were gonna be on TV. Hell, I'd play a pro for cash on TV. I'd yank out every devious nasty slack-jawed filthy trick I could muster on them just to see if I could get them to break character.

I'm not talkin about pleasure boatin, I'm talkin aboot Sharkin'. Oh yeah... they would need a bigger boat.(/Jaws References)

"Cash Cab" was a HUGE hit and even won several awards. It was a reality show that was done on the fly, much like this one will be. All participants had to sign a binding contract before they collected their cheese, allowing their likeness to be filmed.

I miss that show, "Cash Cab." It was fun.

Ben (I think that's his name), the driver is also a great stand up comedian.

Yeah, I love him. He was great as the cab driver asking the questions. :smiling-heart:

Joe Rogan would be a shoe-in to commentate a pool reality series, but I'm sure his celebrity star is too high to reach for a reality series starting from scratch. The fact that he is a known personality and understands pool would complement any reality show. ;)

Rachel just had a baby, I thought, not so long ago. That would be an interesting theme to the reality series, how to juggle family with playing pool. Actually, the tension or conflict between pool world and family life is what would help this series shine.

Sometimes everything's not funny when you're winning that money, if you have family to consider.

I met Rachel on the road a few times. One time in particular, we were hanging out at the Carolinas Open. In the ladies room, she confided a few things to me, which made me admire her more. Although she made no bones about the fact that she wanted to gamble that night as high as anyone could stack it, she also was self-conscious about her image, because at that time she was interested in the ladies' pro tour, WPBA. She asked me, "Do you think this is too revealing?" meaning her blouse. She did not want to send the wrong message. She was there to play pool, nothing more and nothing less. Of course, with Rachel's figure, she could wear whatever she wanted and look like a million bucks. She's gorgeous.

What separates Rachel from the rest is this. She's not only got game, good lucks, but she has ambition and personality. The ambition and personality ingredients are two ingredients necessary to climb to the top. If Rachel is a part of this show, it's got a good chance of making it. She can bark with the best of 'em. :D

At the 2004 Carolinas Open at Fast Eddie's in Goldsboro, Rachel was on the road with Larry Nevel. She graciously allowed me to snap a picture of them. Oh, and she did get in action that week, plenty of it. She snapped off Pookie and a kid from Florida, if memory serves me right.

Wonder if I can send some Chinese women to be on the show. I have one in mind that can get the cash.

Rachel told me a story once that fits here. She was at a pro event in Rocky Mount NC. One of the WPBA board members cornered her to remind her that WPBA players participating in the event were not allowed to gamble during the week of the event or there would be a fine.

Rachels says, "what's the fine?" $5000 is the answer. So Rachel quips back, "I guess that means I have to bet 20,000 then."

Cool Idea

I haven't seen a thread about SHE SHARKS, so I thought I'd make one since it looks like it's likely to fly.

Some of you on Facebook read about Blair Thein's recent partnership with AXIUS ENTERTAINMENT GROUP (AEG) in regards to his pool-based reality show called "SHE SHARKS."

I clicked through his FB post to learn more about AEG and it was highly exciting and encouraging. Check this out: <CLICK>

Some of AEG's past work has included shows like Rescue Ink, Urban Tarzan and While You Were Sleeping - Las Vegas. Their crew has credits that include Jersey Shore, Mob Wives, MTV's Jackass, Real Housewives and Duck Dynasty.

For those who haven't heard, She Sharks will feature a crew of attractive female pool players (who can play) as they travel the country in the Hustle Bus looking to score the most winnings as they make their way to the Vegas mansion for the final show-down.

Once a She Shark goes bust, she's off the show.

From what I've heard, Blair is trying to identify the route the Hustle Bus will take and to pick which pool rooms will be scheduled stops for the She Sharks... so things must be clicking.

Although I'm sure there's still tons of work to do, I'd like to send a big shout-out to Blair -- he definitely deserves success since he's grinded on getting a pool show on TV for many years. I'd love to see them conceal a camera on Rachael and have her bust some local guys in bars --- would be very entertaining.

Best of luck to She Sharks --- hoping this is a first step to getting pool back on TV in a format where "non-playing" people will want to watch.

Dave,
For sure a cool idea. Should make for some good viewing and popularity. Thanks for sharing.

Well i certainly hope it does well but as for this outfit who was involved with Jersey Shore and Mob Wives, which is total trash, it will not make pool look better, in my opinion it will make pool look worse than ever.
Now im saying this if they follow the scripts that they used with the two shows i mentioned above. Those two shows made Italians look nothing but petty and foolish in my opinion. And im not even going to go deeper on my other feelings on those two shows.
They look for cheap low life situations and dramatize it as much as they can. I think the premise of this show sounds interesting for sure, but if they follow their recipe for some of their past shows, expect a disaster.

How typical of pool to latch on to the dying embers of a risible fad.

Pool isn't latching on to anything. Pool has a long history of traveling gamblers and America inherited the reality show format from the Europeans.

Given that the last two great upswings for pool were due to movies about the gambling side of pool it's possible that this could inject some more life into the game.

Blair is doing only what he has been doing for the past five years or more, endeavoring to showcase the side of the sport he loves.

What does that have to do with what I said? Reality TV is at saturation point. To jump on that bandwagon now reeks of desperation. If we go down this route we are merely broadcasting our own funeral.

How do you know it's saturated? Are you a television executive who has his finger on the pulse of the viewing public? Do you green light projects? Is it your money in play here?

FTR Blair was advocating this concept for the past decade.

And "pool" is not doing anything. Pool does not do anything. There is no "pool" entity. Pool is only a sport/game that is used by whomever wants to use it to do whatever it is with it it that they want to pursue.

This is but one project among many that have been and will be tried. "We" and by that I mean YOU especially, don't have a say in what roads are traveled by those who are active with pool-related projects.

If this succeeds then pool will be more popular and if it fizzles then pool will be no worse off as far as I see it.

This is all speculation and conjecture...none of which is accurate. It's funny how people cry about pool not being on tv, but when a guy grinds hard to put his concept on tv...they line up to knock.

How about you enlighten the pool world on how you'd get ANY attention from a successful production firm and how YOU would structure your show, so people might watch? You couldn't come up with a unique idea if your life depended on it.

Lol. You're STILL butt sore, I see. I'm STILL waiting for another time, another place...

At this precise moment, it's ALL "speculation and conjecture", dude. You back that pony if you want to. And you won't see me "crying about pool not being on TV". Pool is as dull as dishwater to watch, whether it's real or reality. You may view at your leisure my posts passim on how to revive the fortunes of the game, non of which rely on prostituting it to whichever pantomime dame happens to wave a few meager dollars in its direction.

Credibility and integrity - NOT farce and titillation.

I am from AXIUS and can tell everyone in the pool industry that She Sharks will highlight the history, competition and drama of both the hustle and professional side of the sport. This is not going to be a Jersey Shore type production. It will focus on the numerous aspects of the history and real world of pool. There will be drama, or the viewing audience would't care less to turn in, but the drama will be real. We already have several pool players assisting in the writing as well as several research assistants working on piecing the real history of the sport together. This show will feature some big personalities, both male and female, and will help bring pool into more mainstream thought. We know that there is a long history and pride in this sport, so now its time to share that with the rest of the country on a big way.

Has this even been picked up for programming? 3 pages in and I haven't seen anyone mention what station this will be airing on.
