Outsville Ki-Tech Single Layered Tips

Just wondering when you people buy spare cue tips to keep for future use, how many tips do you all buy? I currently am keeping 3(S) for reserve.

I'd think 50 would be the right number =P

Seriously... I used to always keep an extra break tip and 2 extra playing tips in my case... Was nice to have them if the place I was playing had a repair shop and I decided that I was ready for a replacement... I learned to keep them in my case because several times the installer was out and I got to try something new... Keeping tips in inventory is an expensive proposition for installers and you may catch them right at the reorder point.. i.e. the night after they just installed the last one of whatever you asked for

There's a huge difference in the pool community over in my country than yours. I would like to say in most places over there, there would be 1 or 2 cue repairman and probably tip installers in most pool halls I guess?

In my country, I would like to say there's only like 2 shops? Cue repairman and tip installers combined. Most pool halls here don't have a cue repairman and if you wanna have your tip replaced, most of the time you'll have to leave your cue shaft overnight or a few nights.

50 is too much for me though. :(

This is why I think every player should learn to do their own tips. I give mine to repairmen but if none are available I do it myself.

Yeah. I do my own tips actually and at times help others do some for a small amount of meal money. :D

Can't wait for the distro in SG to order cases from you!

Got my electronics up and going and tested my ball jig tonight.... Cpl more trips to the machine shop and I should be good to go on testing tips and balls for elasticity... Have red circle, blue circle and measles cueballs to start the ball tests... Really have to remember to call Diamond and order the Cyclop set tomorrow...

I THINK I can borrow sets of new Aramiths from the retail shop in town.. They carry pretty much everything but the centennials and those I own....

Should be fun when we get into tips... Especially the tips made in Taiwan and imported under different names... I won't out which ones they are but the results should be quite similar....

Well, just got an old growth shaft from Steve Klapp that I've been waiting for, and just installed a KiTech Soft. I'm not a master installer, but really had no trouble with the installation on a half-inch ivory ferrule. I'd rather not use a sharpie for the sidewall, but did anyway...kinda reminds me of milkduds I used to make that wouldn't burnish very well, but it looks good. I've been pretty sick for a while, so may not be able to play it for another week or two, but I'm pretty excited about the tip. I'm starting with the soft, and will see how it plays. Thanks for the sample pack, I'd recommend everybody try these.
:D

The installation looks great  I don't think I would think twice about sending shafts home with you for retipping and I am pretty picky =)

Lol, thanks! I'm anxious to play it, may go to the hall this weekend anyway, sick or not, gotta try it out!

Had a long conversation with Gustave Schultheiss from Virginia yesterday on tip installations and the different methods people use... From the conversation and his background I would like to put out a plug for Gustave doing repairs for anyone around the peninsula... And he now stocks Ki-Techs so you won't be having to carry your own in to him =)

Would love to see more pictures of the installs as they are done and I will be posting pictures of the new packaging and labeling as soon as I get a replacement printer for the DOA one they sent out.....

Still hard on the Audit trail for another week and then installations and upgrades of computers aplenty... Almost have the COR testing station completed... Base and software are worked out but the frictionless drop is still problematic but a few air bushings and an airbrush compressor should have that worked out asap...

SOLID break tip is on hold as I pursue a high tech answer to the problem... SOLID is being tested currently in the field but I won't release it until I know that I am 100% bringing the best break tip I am capable of producing to the table.....

Lots of things opening up on the horizon... Starting to look like 2014 is going to be a good year for Outsville....

Hope all of you are shooting straight and keep the feedback coming... I think I converted another hard tip used over to the soft camp last week... Maybe C.D. will chime in here =)

Took my new beater and had a soft put on it... Made a world of difference in whatever they put on cuetecs at the factory.. looked like an everest redline but the knockoffs may even extend to them by now....

Decided to go ahead and swap out the soft on my good cue just to see if 9 months on it had done anything....

I knew the hardness was 1 pt harder after breaking and playing with it for ages but I had torn down my COR testing station months ago when I ran out of room and just now am building a smaller, better design so I hadn't been monitoring changes in elasticity... BY feel I can't tell much difference in the brand new unplayed tip and the one that I had cut off for no apparent reason...

yes I am biased but I am pretty excited that the wear factor on them seems to be better than I was shooting for.. I wanted a tip that played the same for 3 months minimum.. I think I blew past the mark.. or at least I am hoping so...

Looking forward to feedback as usual.. Good or bad...

Shoot straight and may all your racks be tight

I'm on 8 months with the Ki-Tech Hard, and it's as amazing now, as it was on Day 1.

FWIW, I just joined a local NAPA league and lead the individual points standings after 4 weeks. I had a hiccup in the opening week, but I'm getting these lil barboxes down, as Ki-Tech and I are picking up steam.

But, due to the trials and tribulations that one can encounter in a bar environment, I just picked up a lightly used $50 J&J 2x4 case, so that I can put away my autographed InStroke 3x7 unit for the foreseeable future. I have a Volturi 4x8 somewhere in Roger's pipeline. It will accompany me into only the most secure (non-smoking) rooms.

Anywho, I also called my cuemaker, Gary Johnson, and asked him about a no-frills Sneaky Pete. Something that will hit like I'm accustomed to, but carries no sentimental value. My regular player is a Gary Johnson, and I plan on keeping it forever.

Well, it just so happens that Gary had a Sneaky Pete that he built for himself and was one of his personal back-up players. He was willing to sell it to me, so I'm keeping it "in the family".

Before picking it up, I was musing as to how I hoped it would feel just like my regular custom. Then it hit me. The tip. Ack. I knew Gary generally liked something medium and usually uses Tiger or Kamui products. I quickly texted him and set up a correction to that situation.

I mailed out a Ki-Tech Hard to him on Wednesday. He installed it today and I should have that Sneaky Pete tomorrow. He actually texted me moments before installation and asked if I was CERTAIN that I wanted him to cut off that $20 Kamui. I told him to whack it. :)

Between that Sneaky player, my Dufferin Sneaky breaker, and the low-frills J&J case, I should have peace of mind that I have good equipmen, but without all the bells and whistles.

Now if I could just get a Ki-Tech Solid for my breaker, I'd be set all the way up. :D

The 2nd version of the solid is being tested and I am looking into versions 3 and 4 before I release any of them... I won't throw a break tip out just to throw a break tip out... Until I am satisfied that they are the best thing I can bring to the market I won't be releasing....

Chris call me when you have time. Everyone loves this tip. I would like to be able to provide them to folks during my travels.

Chris.

Wanna check with you. Is the M suppose to be like this unchalked and freshly installed? I follow some and trim down abit of the top part. This is actually the first time I've seen leather fibers like that though.

Yes, I know I stained the ferrule abit. :(

I had a med ktech on my play cue before I got a tiger LD shaft. It takes a little time for the "fuzz" to wear down and smooth out. Long fibers I just sanded a little to remove them.
I liked the tip so much, I just ordered 3 more med. The sniper that came on the tiger shaft is not something I like. I will try the ktech on it looking for the best of both worlds :)

The fibers will take a licking and keep on ticking.... You'll have hella time beating those in (think hours and hours)... Tip will also feel softer than it is and not get as much grab as it should....

All that you need to do is finish off the shaping with some fine grit sandpaper... Friend of mine does this to me all the time and I come home and reshape and reburnish... Takes about 10 minutes and once it's high and tight you won't be having to touch it very often... Just an occasional rough up with sandpaper if the top starts to look a little shiny.....

Chris

Since this thread got bumped again, the Soft I have on my cue has still needed 0 upkeep. Not to fix mushrooming (since there is none), not to scuff it (since there are no shiny spots even after a few miscues), it a bit harder feeling but still very smooth and feels to stick to the cueball.

Soon as my son's Kamui gets worn down, I'm installing the Medium I have on his cue.

After the shaping and I removed the longest fibers, the tip is totally trouble free and plays so well. Guess thats why I am replacing the sniper with it, just simply a nice tip.

I tip picked the (M) and it raised a hell lot of fibers. I got a shock for a while. Took a 180grit and sanded the fibers off before reshaping it again. Seems like (S) and (M) has a big difference. I was previously on (S).
