Qiut smoking day for AZers and support.Monday.

My roommate used to smoke filterless Camels. When I'd run out of mine, I'd try one of hers. They were STRONG! :p

We were at a pool tournament in Richmond about, gee, maybe 7 or 8 years ago, subject to check. Richmond is a tobacco town, with Camel being right there. In fact, I remember we bought about five cartons of Marlboros while we were in Richmond because they were cheaper there than our area.

Anyway, at the tournament, Camel sent out a crew offering FREE cigarettes and lighters and ashtrays and discount coupons to the people in the pool room. The Camel "exotic blend" cigarettes at that time were flavored. They had about five different flavors. The only two I can remember were vanilla and Irish coffee. I remember how thrilled I was to get the free cigarettes and the trinkets. :p

When I was in my early teens I use to put 20 or 40 Camels on a cookie sheet, soak them with beer or wine, then let them bake in the sun. They were really high test then. Johnnyt

OMG! I have never heard of that. :grin-square:

18 yrs

18 yrs for me. Just quit one day after a heavy drinking/smoking/coke binge. Just tell yourself every time you want one I DON'T SMOKE. After a while it becomes true!

That about sums it up.
Ohio is a smoke free state but a lot of bars still let people smoke & I have to say it sucks. When you leave there you smell like an ashtray. Your eyes are burning.
And when you wake up in the morning it feels like you smoked a pack.
I know, just don't go to those places. It's the league I'm playing in.

I quit just 6 years ago. At 1:30 p.m., February 19th, 2008, I smoked my last cigarette.

That is about 3 weeks before my mom died from Emphysema. She had smoked 2 packs of Pall Malls since she was 15. She died at 65. Her mom lived to be 94, and my mom was very active, so I'm sure the cigarettes took at least 20 years off her life.

Quit now, everyone!

I bet this thread just bugs the crap out of all those here who totally reject the idea of no smoking pool halls.

I had to pretty much give up playing because of the smoke in pool halls, and I used to be able to play a little...and I'm not alone.

It's been just over 4 years for me. It took a couple tries, but like Hog and Jam said, it wasnt so hard once I made up my mind to do it. Also, like Jam, I have NO urges anymore. Smoking was a living death. I had gotten used to feeling sick always and forgot what if felt like to be healthy.

Also, my game went up 2 balls within the first 3 weeks of quitting.

From a 3 pack a day man.

I've noticed a few of the local guys in our pool room who are using the electronic cigarettes to help them quit smoking. It seems to be working for some of them.

I used the patch many years ago and that seemed to work for me.

If you plan to quit smoking, don't wait too long.

As you stay quit, the cycles of desperate need for a smoke, become longer and longer. Eventually the cycle of addiction is broken completely. To break the addiction takes will power.

For those who want to quit smoking, get to it.

"Time waits for no man."

Like that.

When I was in to process of stopping smoking for good, when the urge to smoke would come on, for that moment I would say, "I will not smoke a cigarette." Saying things to yourself does seem to help. Don't use weak words of self talk though. "I want to quit smoking" is weak talk and it means that you really haven't taken a personal stand on stopping.

Well, interestingly enough, I just learned of a new pool sponsor of electronic cigarettes. Currently, Jayson Shaw, Scott Frost, and Earl Strickland are being sponsored by this company of vapor cigarettes.

Here's the website: http://kingsofvaporohio.com/

Gone are the days of the smokey pool rooms in the year 2014, I guess. ;)

That's what I'm talking about......

Not only your pool game will go up but so will your life.

While smoking we just don't know how bad it is really making us feel because we are used to it.

It just sucks the life out of us and pretty soon we suck but it feels normal.

They are so addicting that it is crazy.

Even though we know they are killing us the cig companies just keep making billions of $.

Just one person on here at a time.

Can be the biggest victory of your life.

Your the winner......

Good Luck there Mr Brian......

This thread could be just what I need to quit. Starting tomorrow I will be attempting to quit smoking cigarettes. Still smoke cigars (no inhale), but I really would prefer to feel better and not feel so "heavy"... At 27 years old I would really like to quit before things get worse than they already are. Thank you VERY much for this thread. I see good things coming from this. +1 for you sir.

I know for a fact that every player on here is pulling for you.

If for some reason you don't get it done you can start over again next Monday. If the urge is too strong just get on here and talk. So much good advice on here already from players that have won the battle.

The further you get away from your quit date the bigger winner you are all around.

I wish I would have quit when I was 27. I was 31.

Good Luck my friend.

All the winners on here are with you......Let us know how your doing in a few days.

Share your struggles and feeling with everyone.

I still remember feeling like my eyeballs were falling out for days when I was trying to quit.

Horrible.

But then that first hit on a cig made me feel horrible also. Sound familiar...

One thing that people don't know is that the particals that are on your clothes from the smoke can effect the people we love also. Breathing them in or just touching them. And everything these particals touch turns yellow and it is tough to even clean. Need a special chemical to clean things well.

Because of a brain Op and a metal clip in my head, I was getting severe migraines every day.

I still get them and have meds for it but since I quit smoking, the head aches are less severe and less frequent.

Hmmm, wonder why.

COPD was the leading cause of death of my Mother. She quit smoking 25 years before she was diagnosed with COPD. It caused her to feel out of breath until it took her life. Her form of COPD made it impossible for her to dispel the carbon dioxide out of her lungs. When she was young the tobacco companies had ads on TV about how healthy it was for folks to smoke and like many folks she was swayed by the glamorous lifestyle smoking portrayed at that time. I urge anyone smoking to think twice for themselves and their families.. Here is a link to the CDC website which may help those in need of assistance.

For many of us the damage is done and we just have to do the best we can do from now on.

The good news is we can share our stories with others. Our loved ones that are gone would love to see us help others that are now fighting this battle.

The info on this site is invaluable.

Thanks for sharing..........

Thanks, that means a lot. I"ll keep you updated on how things are going. Hopefully it's better news than today was lol..... had a few more smokes than I should have had today but hey, it's a start.:thumbup:

I am a smoker.
I have been on the fence about quitting.
I intend to quit this Monday, and this thread is the reason. I had been thinking about it, and just happened to see this thread at the perfect time, to make up my mind. I wish I could say it was some specific thing that I read, but the bottom line, is we just have to make up our own mind and then be grateful for support, like this thread offers.
Thank you to Genomachino for starting this thread, and to all who have contributed.

I hope you read what I wrote in post number 7 to this thread. Hey, number 7, lucky number. :)

That really helped me get through the first few weeks. Now that I am at the 6-year mark, I'm feeling pretty good about my decision to quit.

Best of luck to you. If you want this, you can make it happen for sure, and you will be so glad you did.

You aren't alone my friend. I"m working on the same thing. Best of luck to you. We got this.:thumbup::thumbup:

Chantix Chantix Chantix. Smokeless for 7 years. Easiest thing I ever did. Wish I had done it sooner. You need a prescription from your doctor. Take pills for two week. Never had a desire for another smoke. Been dealing with COPD for the past two years. Hate it.
