Mosconi Team Predictions for 2014

To anyone that thinks the young guys can't handle the pressure.

Let's not forget how well the veterans handled it last year. Playing at home.

The young guys won't do any worse.

DING DING DING. WE HAVE A WINNER FOLKS!

They can only go up from where they were. Why not give the hungry folks a shot.

Having Mike D. doesn't play nice with others... And he doesn't have many fans because of it...

then i guess he needs a coach to jerk-a-knot & teach him how to play well w/ others. right?

aren't they all supposed to be "pros"? i'm sorry - PLAYING FOR THE UNITED STATES?!?! that "team spirit", should be a damn "given".

i would think that the job of the Coach, would be to pair them up perfectly & pit them perfectly. and the talent would fall into place....

How about Rob Saez, how would he match up against Chris Bartrum on a neutral table?

You know I havent wanted to get to calling out some of these selections, bc everyone listed so far is indeed a great player, but seriously...Behnke and Landon? To the original poster of this thread..I would ask you...what has either player won? Not just recently, but in their entire lives? How can you seriously put them forward as two of the five and sit out young players that have won major events?

In these two players defense, if they were actually playing full time they would surely have a better resume, but isnt that also the very reason why they should not be in contention? Both players have commitments outside of pool and honestly that admirable, especially considering the state of pro pool nowadays, but ignoring that issue, isnt the Mosconi cup for the professionals and not the part timers?

glad to see others throwing mr. bartrum's name out there as well, he is 1 of the few pool players u know u can count on and bet on w out having to worry about any shenanigans!

It will be hard for me to make the team
I haven't played 1 of the tourneys this year
Thanks for the post

Given the lack of events this year, it is my opinion that you should have a chance to make the Mosconi Cup Team. They should arrange a weekend team try out for potential members. Every major sports team has try outs.

Can't be any worse then the old system! May get some real surprises on the team. Plus, the old system forced participation in events that were economically unfeasible for some players and excluded those that could not swing the expense.

This way you make it to Lindenwood University one weekend and battle it out for your spot. A "Battle Royal" like WWF style. Last four or five standing get on the team! It is sad to hear you sound so defeated on the board with that statement. It is not over till the fat lady sings!

That didn't stop Dennis Hatch from being on last years team. He skipped lots of pro tournaments leading up to the Mosconi Cup and hadn't won much if anything in recent years.

I am definitely a Bartram supporter and this has NOTHING to do with Bartram......

your theory on how the team should be chosen shows nothing on how players would play together as a team. So your Battle Royal is a failure of an idea, sorry.

That was what I've been hearing, from SEVERAL sources. they want young fresh faces. I was also told this year is basically written off. They want to win very badly but the bar has been set low. It's a rebuilding year of sorts.

If you doubt either one's ability you don't know their games well enough. I've seen both guys run big packs on diamond pro ams. I guess that's not strong enough for the MC though...

Shane VanBoening
Justin Bergman
Brandon Shuff
Skyler Woodward
Robb Saez

Watched all of these guys play, met all but one. Saez ran the biggest package in the Sac Hard Times tourney this last week -- a 4 pack on tight ass gold crowns w/ new rubber and sub-4" pockets. Didn't see anyone else B&R more than 2. Bergman won it. I think they would make a great team and they're all really good guys. They play strong and have the work ethic.

Mark Wilson is dedicated and single minded in relation to this project. He almost has all his ducks in a row.
When the news of his progress emerges soon then it will be a squad that he will stand firmly behind and they will do the same for him.

Very well said.

Here on AZB, it's all speculation, because, well, that's what we do .... and when the Mosconi picks are announced, we'll complain, because, well, that's what we do ... and a little after that, we'll focus on supporting the team Mark chooses, because, well, that's what we do.

... but Mark knows what he's doing and he's taking the job seriously. He'll select a solid team and do everything in his power to prepare them for battle. From my vantage point, any team with Shane and without Earl will be one worth cheering for.

America is in very good hands with Mark Wilson, a shining role model in American pool.

I think Chris plays better for the cash, than he does in a tournament mode. Proven by looking at his track record.

I think he can play with the best of them for the cash though.

I think his bulldog style and ability to bare down when the chips are on the table (such as being down in an ahead set when your opponent is on the hill and grinding all the way back to win) would potentially make him a beast in the short set format of the Mosconi.

I'm waiting on the guy that commented about Stevie not being able to beat the guys on most people's Mosconi Cup wish lists.

Chris Bartrum
Skylar Woodward
Justin Bergman
Justin Hall
Oscar Dominguez
Robb Saez
Landon Shuffett
Jesse Engel
Joey Gray

Who else am I missing? Stevie would horsef@## anyone on that list. No offense. (Chris knows I'm a fan/friend of his, lol)

No offense taken
He did beat me bad 6 years ago or so
Here is what I'll do
I'll play him 10 ball in Stl or Columbus .
12 ahead I can bet any amount if it's in Stl
Or I'll come to his home table and play 10 ball and 1 pocket

I'll ask him. It's pretty safe to say that he is not going to play 1-pocket, lol.

I don't know, stevie seems like a toss up against all these guys. Remember were talking race to 5 alternate break 9 ball, not winner break race to 9 or something like that.
