Rodney shows up in Reno

Lenny,

I got a question for you? What has Rodney DONE to put a band aid on the situation he created? All I have seen is him pouring accelerants on an already bad situation.

Based on your answer to this question above, do you think he DESERVES reinstatement on the eligible list?

KD

I heard recently he called Mark trying to squash things but Mark was not hearing any of it. I do not know exactly what was said but it seems Rodney did try and reach out.

Just wondering why when he was asked to leave the tournament area, he insisted that he be escorted out by security? Sounds like he came to make a scene.

I do not have the answer to that, perhaps he did not believe that Bill Stock had the authority to have him leave the venue as it is a casino.

I understand why Rodney isn't allowed in these tournaments, but I'm confused about some of the others. I can name almost a dozen players that are usually in the field that are absent this year (Archer and Earl to name two). Are they all banned? And if so, did they mouth off to Mr. Griffin as well? I've been out of the game for a while but I remember Archer being one of the most stand-up pro's I ever met back in the late 90s.

Is this true? He refused to leave when asked? I just figured he was identified and then approached by security who then escorted him out.

Actually I heard when asked to leave, he went into a Ninja poise and acted like he had an invisible light saber. That's the only reason they escorted him out. At least that's what I heard...

It should have raised red flags when he asked them to stop and pose for a group picture by his lawyer's photographer.

Lenny,

He can not malign the man publicly and expect to get off with a private apology?

He is your friend and needs some help crafting an appropriate public apology and response. Our very own JAM is one of the best at things like this and would jump at a chance to help. You two should ask her for help or anyone in your inner circle that is good at these type things.

Example:

Apology to Mr Griffin.

It is with a heavy heart that I must acknowledge an injustice on my part. A post made in a moment of anger and frustration was maid maligning Mr. Griffin. I need to right this situation and explain how something like this could occur.

I was extremely frustrated with the delays and schedule changes associated with bonus ball and when they cost me to pay a late fee, it was the straw that broke the camels back. Mr. Griffin has worked tirelessly promoting pool and his efforts are appreciated.

I am just sorry that the venom of my post hurt someone that meant me no harm. My nickname is highly appropriate as I certainly went off like a rocket at the time of that unfortunate post. I am working on controlling my temper and being hot headed.

I hope you could find it in your heart to forgive someone who temporarily lost his way.

Sincerely,

The Rocket

Kid, despite a couple of grammatical corrections, I would like to say you grovel with the best of them.

I think perhaps adding a line about an "alcohol fueled rocket" would be appropriate.

Words are just that. And they won't suffice, whether in public or private. I alluded to the fact that Rodney called mark several times in this thread. This isn't a matter for an apology to resolve. Rodney must demonstrate RESPECT in his professional conduct. Not just today or tomorrow. He must create a track record. This will not only help him advance his career, but will help him in all aspects of his life. His reward will be that he will become a better person.

Don't mess with Reno Law.

Takeitdown,

I did not start these posts or the FB. Rodney started this controversy by posting items on his FB - items that I cannot even see. I did NOT open him up to ridicule. He was simply told he cannot play in CSI events.

I insist he knows why - but he says he doesn't. He calls me and I tell him it has nothing to do with liking a person - yet he posts the exact opposite.

My intent was not to embarrass him - or anyone else. However, he must be prepared for the fallout if he starts telling inaccurate stories.

Mark Griffin

I beg to differ If we lived in a perfect world than it may be so. But we don't. When a professional is banned from competition to make a living it is very embarrassing. When we have examples throughout the game of impertinence and shallow behavior why is Morris the exception. It must be because of you and your personal feelings. You've had many instances of pros behaving very badly during events. I don't need to name them.. Have they ever been banned?
Rodney is a favored Son of Hawaii. A very loved player from the 50th state. Your taking the exception to banning him and only him is a reflection of you. As far as Im concerned there is a line of players that have been more egregious than any thing that Rodney has done. Yet they continue to play in your events.

His showing up at the event, was the ultimate slap in the face. There is no excuse posible for that action.

Alluding is lame.

I don't believe Rodney is the only Professional banned (or not invited, whichever it is) from the event. He isn't being singled out, it appears he just happens to be the one bringing it to the public eye.

You are confusing events. Rodney is banned from all CSI events. Open or otherwise. We don't know if there are others who can not attend open events. CSI will be holding invitational events in the future. Only 16 players. Many will be Asian and European players. There may only be spots for 5 or 6 Americans. Many will be excluded.

promoting

I have been reading this thread and the other Rodney thread for days.

I used to own a big pool hall in Missouri. I currently run, promote, and play in a lot of tournaments around St Louis and travel to big tournaments for calcuttas and gambling.

When you work very hard to promote a game you love and for little if no benefit at all. it sucks when someone who benefits from your efforts trash talks you even in the slightest. it really sucks when they take it to another level on their own or through social media / friends etc....

A guy showed up to my place where his own friends told him he wasn't welcome. He thought I wouldn't have the stones to turn him away. I did and he went 100 miles home pissed. No freaking chance am I going to spend my time, money, and risk my reputation by letting someone near my customers, guests, friends, and future.

Me and that guy have slowly talked back and forth a bit and after about three years of no bullshit from either side. Time can heal wounds.

For most of the tournaments I run I get a free entry, sometimes a meal or a free hour or two. Most of the tournaments I run are handicapped. So I put up with all of the handicap crap week in and week out which I can handle usually for about $20-$40 I get. However you badmouth the tournament as a whole, the location, my sponsors, the room owner, or get personal? I can't accept that.

Brendan Sullivan.
