When a New Guy on AZ with 1 or 2 posts Bumps a thread , unknowingly, to soon , We should turn all his REP RED , Right ????? This happened . Made the new guy Really look bad . Whats all the red rep for???? He has no idea . How do I check , this is what he asked me ????

I talked to this new member and asked some questions . He said someone , no named , was very rude to him , and he was rude right back . I believe him , if someone is rude to me I might be rude right back .

Red rep is given by other posters, not the mods. Read the posts, must be something there, red reps aren't given for bumping posts on this forum otherwise there would be a damn site more of them.

I just thought it kinda bad one of our self appointed forum cops turned the new guy red for bumping to soon .

It's a little much if he just joined. We do have some goofballs around here that have been here for years and do it. They should get the red rep, not this new guy.

What's his name? If you click his name next to one of his posts, and then do "Find all posts by ______"
... you should spot whatever post made him unpopular.

I ran a search to see who signed up since 2/01/2014 (over 700 users, holy crap),
and only one of them currently has all red rep, "JACK HINES BEST"
...guessing that's not your friend though, he didn't bump anything that I saw.

So maybe your friend's rep already got fixed. One greenie from a longtime member
can usually erase the red and put you all green instantly.

I told him how to check to see who and why . I don't think you will have a hard time figuring Who is that chicken S--- . The guy was trying to do a cue purchase and a high end case purchase from someone else . He is back to green , his paypal was fast and he sent check for case as soon as he could , this morning . With the red rep , being new , really looked bad . The thread as been deleted , I do not know what the thread even was about or what was said .

There's way too much over-reaction about over-bumping....the AZer must have a pattern.....
a demonstrated history of doing this......not an accidental bump, not an unintentional bump,
not an unknowing bump......newbies need time to get acquainted......and there needs to be
warnings first so the AZer can correct their bad habits and rules violations.

I think the Mods need a standard message sorta like "THIS THREAD IS IN VIOLATION OF 48 HRS BUMP."

Slap that baby on as a post by a Moderator and the message is heard loud & clear.......if it continues,
then warn the AZer.....suspension need to be issued and civility needs to be maintained at all times but
it is time to kick some ass.

I know people react with the messenger as much, if not even more, than the message carried.
My posts about Going Gold and Over-Bumping have caused me to be labeled a _sshole.

Well, I have news for my naysayers......I earned that mantle long before joining the Forum.
Nonetheless, it's reassuring to see other AZers get actively involved in both of these matters.

I've been on several other forums where, in the Buy/Sell/Trade section, the forum would simply not allow you to bump a thread during the 48 hours.

And, if someone else posted in the thread, it warned them that they should send private messages for inquiries.

There are so many arguments here over bumping. Why not do as other forums do and enact it in the forum posting rules itself? The other forums were using the same software as this one.

Humpty Bumpty Bumped his thread.

Some Dick Wad thought it funny to turn him Red.

One of the Kings men on horseback it would seem

Gave him a Rep and turned him Green

All is well in Bump Land

This might be the funniest post I've seen. Just great!!!!

I saw this in yesterday or the day before. I saw that the guy had only 5 posts and already had red rep. I went to his post history and it only showed one post.....the one he made thanking Jim for the sale. This had to mean the other 4 posts were made in threads that had been deleted.

He should read forum rules and he shouldnt have received red rep for this. A pm could have been very informative as well.

I'm not sure if it's the same member but I did give a newish member a red rep a while back. There is more to it than just giving him a red for bumping the post too early though. As he was new I sent him a polite pm with a link to the rules and explained what he did was wrong and why. And as I stated I did it politely. He replied and apologized for not knowing the rules and everything was fine. Then less than an hour later he went ahead and bumped the post again so I sent him another polite pm and asked him if he was having difficulty understanding the rules to which he acted like a little kid and replied with all sorts of insults and profanity. He then again posted in his thread and I realized he really didn't give a shit if he followed the rules or not. It was at that point I red repped him.

So I'm curious Jim, what's the member's name?

Needless Bump

No.

You should educate users and post a link to the over bumping rules.

:help:

The rules are a moving target and no one is "born" knowing the AZ rules.
They have changed multiple times over the past couple of years.

We do not need any more negative, off topic posts.

What we need is someone given a chance to make mistakes - due largely to our fault of training them - to get a second or third chance.

When a guy self-appoints himself as a forum cop of course he is going to want to write some citations.

Why be a cop if you can't be all big and strong and tell people they are wrong (in your eyes)? Judgment really makes some people feel good.

Truer words were never spoken . Jim

I've been here eight years and never heard anything about bumping a post too soon. This is just in the wanted/for sale section, or what??

He told me someone was very rude to him and he was rude right back . I believe him .
