A Report from the Lou v. Barton Match

I do not know his name. Apparently, the people there know him, and they know how he plays, which is super strong.

There are a number of AZer's there, but they have not given me permission to mention them in the posts, so I have not. However, multiple people witnessed the coaching.

I heard the same thing on Jimbo Army. Dennis Spears is one they say was talking from behind the column next to JBs seat ,, if I'm Lou I get one of my guys over there to put a end to it ,, I can think of any game that someone could benefit more from coaching then in one pocket

Why are people calling it BS when John (according to the OP), admitted it? OP, what was the exact wording of the question to him as well as his exact words to the response? This is very important.

It is very simple. A pep talk or words of encouragement is acceptable (you can do it, keep your head in it etc). Shoot this shot, don't break up these balls, etc is not acceptable unless they agreed to coaching prior to the match starting. I can't believe people think this is ok to coaching with this type of a huge gambling match between these two guys who don't like each other. The ones calling BS, "might" have an argument, but like I mentioned if John admitted it, depending on the how the question and answer were worded, then it probably happened.

The main reason I'll disagree with the pep talk bit is, when done quietly, how can you tell if that's actually ALL he is saying?

It would be WAY too easy to quietly say "shoot the 5 up table and roll the cue onto the short rail" just as easily as it would be to quietly say "Keep yourself calm, man. Relax. Follow your game plan and just take it easy. You got this."

I'm gonna have to call BS on this. Lou has backers and I'm sure for 20k in the middle, they are paying attention to what's going on. If they saw some whispering that looked suspect, they would be all over it.
The 2 guys playing are not world beaters and I'm sure there are plenty of guys in the room that play 1 Pocket much better. If there was coaching going on, it would be noticed.
All this is just rubish that people are stirring up. JMHO

I do not believe it was Lou's backers that noticed this; it was other AZer's who said they would post about it, but have not. Moreover, to those who are saying why didn't Lou stop immediately and complain, etc, etc,.

Lou could not easily see this guy from his chair because of a pillar or pole or something, and Lou did not say anything until he was pretty sure it was going on...showing pretty goog sportsmanship if you ask me.

It is a lose/ lose for Lou. If he says nothing, he is to blame. If he says something, Barton could deny it and claim it was a move on Lou's part to fabricate an accusation.

However, shockingly, I was told Barton admitted to the coaching.

Exactly. With all of the animosity between the camps there is no chance that they would let it go on and would have called it without hesitation.

Just going by how they were acting in the stream, both players were very well behaved. I would have taken them for friends if there was not so much pre-game stuff going around.

If you are getting that nitty gritty yeah sure...I meant more out loud comments like you can do it John etc....nothing being whispered.

Not trying to be too 'nitty gritty'. Just making a fair point. My understanding is that there was a good deal of whispering.

As one source puts it: " If he was just pep talking he wouldn't have been covering his mouth the whole time."
Another spectator said pretty much the exact same thing. And they were sitting 15 ft. away.

I have no dog in this race. Until last night I wouldn't have known either one of them if they walked into the room.

But it's these "I was told..." and "My understanding is..." -type accusations that make me very suspicious of the situation. The OP post said "John admitted....", then it changes to "I was told John admitted..."

People should be more careful when others reputations are on the line.

John DID admit it.

I was being calmed by the guy I have been taking lessons from. He would say the same things any corner man would say. Like get this money John, work it out John, don't leave nothing John..... Nothing prevents me from having a corner man and he will be there today.

If he was telling me what to shoot it didn't work too well because Lou won two games AFTER he got there. No matter what I still have to be the one to shoot and I came with some great shots to stay in this match.

What he DIDN'T admit to was "He was talking to me under his breath, hand over his mouth, keeping it discreet and anyone could see it." And why would he admit to that part??? THAT would create a problem.

Regardless of what you want to believe, these claims (hand over the mouth while talking to him) have been corroborated by several people that happen to be pretty damn trustworthy and were there watching the match. Some of them can even be seen from time to time on camera.

Why does it even matter at this point other than to try and make JB go off. If it did happen and Lou knew about it, he should have stopped the match instantly and resolved the situation. Why complain now when your buddy Lou is on the hill? It's Lou's own fault for not addressing it.

From what I saw, JB flat out gave at least 2 games to Lou that he should have never lost. The score should be 8-6 JB if he could have played a lick.

For Lou to be this supposed 100 ball runner, 8 ball champion and multiple DCC casher, all I can say is his competition must have been extremely weak. To come off as a pompous I'm better that you a$$, I expected him to be better than a low B player.

Gotta love the drama!

Do others agree that they are both B level players? Just curious.

So when JB strings together 3 straight today, there will be an asterisk beside his win in the record books.

If it even mattered Lou would have said something

Are you getting paid to investigate this? Oh, you aren't?

Wanna paint my house for free too?

One reason to cover your mouth and whisper is because you don't want to distract the player at the table. That would be impolite.

It is odd that throughout 14 games no one spoke to Lou. He seems like a friendly guy.

I was there, sitting directly across from them and I would have to say he was definitely getting coached. A couple of guys I was sitting with were laughing in disbelief that they were getting away with it. I saw a couple of times towards the end of the night, John looked like he didn't have a clue what to do, the guy whispers something, and John comes with a very advanced shot that we didn't see all night.
Even though I was there I am speculating a bit too because I couldn't hear what was being said but...I'd bet a LOT of money that it wasn't just pats on the back and pep talking.

This whole thing to me sounds like if it occurred then the Lou side slept it and its now history and doesn't matter. What does matter is Lou is on the hill and breaking.

One thing thats probably safe to say is its a lock that the Figuerora camp will be watching to make sure Dennis Spears isn't there whispering sweet nothings to JB today.

Very true, David. That is exactly how today should play out.

Lou is robbing a guy who can't run 3 balls and he is upset the guy is getting coached. This gets funnier all the time.
