Problems with Meucci

I'm trying here as a last ditch effort to help a friend of mine get a resolution to a problem with Meucci...

He ordered (2) 30" custom Shafts (cost him over $400) to fit his BMC Casino cue, and they turned out to be horrendous...The taper go's from 11mm to 13-14mm within the first 6 inches on one of the shafts, at the joint on one of the shafts its a couple thousandths bigger than than the butt , leaving a lip sticking out...and the other the threaded hole in the shaft is off center by a couple thousandths causing the joint to come together crooked...The workmanship is just flat out ridiculous...Calls and messages to Meucci have been ignored and he's starting to feel like he's screwed...

Anyone know someone he can talk to at Meucci that can help make this right?

Feel free to respond here or shoot me a PM...Thanks

It's been years since I've called Meucci, but back in about 04 they were very easy to deal with.
I would keep trying, Meucci isn't going to screw you guys.
From what I've heard, their customer service blows, so I would be the squeaky wheel.
Maybe Meucciman will chime in, he is Bob Meucci's nephew.
Meucciman had 242 Meucci's last year, I wonder how many he is up to now><
That is a lot of ****ing Meucci's.

Meucci Cues

I've tried very hard to forget the absolute fiasco I had with Bob Meucci in the fall of 2005. If you want to read the details, do a search in the Main Forum for my post entitled, "Meucci Originals...tread cautiously". It's still there in the forum.

Long story short, Meucci produced a custom cue for me and it was fraught with cosmetic and dimensional problems. After much phone & documented e-mail dialogue with Bob Meucci directly, it was agreed that I would return the cue and he would refund me the cost of the cue (already paid in full), minus a re-stocking fee. I returned the cue via registered mail with a subsequent receipt showing delivery of the cue back to Meucci.

The amount of $$ that he owed me was @ $650.00 and it has NEVER been paid. Multiple conversations, threats, and even legal efforts to reclaim my refund were to no avail. Meucci simply ignored all of them.

Bob Meucci flat-out lied to me and obviously had no intention of rectifying the issues with my cue. So, I wouldn't be too quick to presume that he couldn't be guilty of doing the same thing to others...??

Meucci "may" have been a prominent cuemaker at one time...but, clearly his reputation and his product have been greatly tarnished by the myriad of similar stories that can be found here on AZB. It seems only fitting, all things considered, that his business and his prominence have been greatly diminished as a result...and, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving jerk...!!!

I'm sorry to hear that you've had problems with Meucci. I have used Budget Billiards for many years and they have always provided top notch customer service. The #1 Meucci Retailer Worldwide - 2004 through 2013

Bad quality and poor service from Meucci?
This is shocking news.

Everyone says I hate Meucci cues. If this is what you see every time someone brings in a black dot Meucci, cue for repairs what would you think ?

Its same with thing with every black dot Meucci that comes in for repair.......

I would like to clear these issues with Mr Meucci for me because I was burned on 3 of his cues. I would also like to get my customers Meucci cues issue resolved too.

Mike the Meucci hater

Get a shaft from a good cuemaker and forget about Meucci - It will be cheaper in the long run...

So just eat the $400+ that he just spent and go spend another $4-500 somewhere else?....I don't mean to blurt out my buddies financial status but I dont think thats an option....

Unfortunately, and as you are starting to see, these kinds of complaints about poor quality and service have become a recurring theme with Meucci.

The general sentiment, and I certainly agree, is that the older "Meucci Originals" cues were of a much higher quality compared with the newer ones bearing the stylish cursive font.

I have had my own first-hand experience with their awful customer service l'll spare you the details.

Any Meucci related work that I would be needing done will be going to either Scott Erwin whose father (RIP) was the head of Meucci repairs for many years and was a brilliant repairman, or Ryan of RAT cues based out of Muellers.

I have used both Ryan & Scott and either guy will deliver a high quality job at very reasonable prices.

Bob Meucci was a great innovator and made beautiful, high quality cues.

He should be ashamed over what he has let his company become.

EDIT: If your buddy used a cc or paypal for payment, he can file a dispute - otherwise, hound Meucci to death - maybe ask them to cover replacement shafts that you'll get done with Erwin or RAT, both, I believe, Meucci authorized service centers..

best,
brian kc

Thanks Brian, I had my blow out with Meucci about 10 years ago after breaking a rack and my brand new cue blowing apart at the joint (I was told it was my fault) after some arguing back and forth and a 4 month wait I finally got a new replacement cue...I didnt even take it out of the box to play with it before I sold it...lol

I hope my buddy can get some just service...he deserves it! He has spent some pretty good money on that Meucci of his...I'm pretty sure he's in it almost $1500 (with the new shafts) ....I know he could have a pretty nice custom for that kind of coin...

He really likes this cue and the only reason he bought the 2 extra shafts is he dropped the cue and it got a tiny crack right at the ferrule...(he's in a wheelchair so he has to balance the cue on the little platform that his feet sit on and use both hands to get around the table....the cue just got away from him)...

nice to see an Arizona guy with a greg kucharsky cue (your sig line). he's a good friend 20 min up the road from me.

The meucci problem I had was also one that came apart on a break shot. It was a buddy of mine, he doesn't even break that hard. This cue nearly disintegrated - the joint and whole forearm blew out. Meucci repaired it - took almost 1 year. It blew apart again. And on top of all that, they were horrible about it all.

Bob Meucci, because he built such an important company with quality cues, now gets to live off of that rep he created for himself. I see lots of league guys still using and buying (blindly) newer model meucci cues. They don't know yet how poorly constructed these newer ones are. Not yet, anyway.

hope your buddy get's some resolution.

You're a good man to look out for him.

I bought my GK at the Albany stop of the Joss N.E. tour in 2008ish...I was stationed at Fort Drum at the time and decided to go donate some of my reinlistment bonus to a couple of the stops in my area...."Connecticut Bob" <---thats how he was introduced is who I bought the cue from...I was shooting with a Schon at the time but after a couple of test hits with the GK I was sold!...The cue just hits amazing...Its probably the only cue I'll ever use as a day to day player for ever!

I hope that Meucci comes around and takes care of the shafts for my friend...to me its just not right to let that kind of work out of the shop...

Sometimes you just have to take a loss...
Time is money and dealing with a company that makes a inferior product and hoping you will win the jackpot and get a quality product from them is a waste of time.
Maybe a decent cuemaker can "save" those shafts - i don`t know, but i rather spend a few more dollars on that, than sending shit back and forth to Meucci...

i hate to hear your friend is having issues. last year i came close to pulling the trigger on a bmc copperhead but i just could not do it.

i owned 2 meuccis years ago. i never had any issues with the quality at all. the gambler had a slightly warped shaft when i got it ..i used steamto straighten it out and it stayed straight during the 4 years i owned it. the other was straight as an arrow from day one.

i see quite a few meuccis around memphis and every time i see one i ask the owner if i can look at it. so far after looking at about 30 or so cues i only have seen one that had finish issues. it was a gambler that had rings popping. about a 1/3 were originals and the rest newer models.

i guess its a hit and miss when purchasing a meucci now a days.

Just an FYI for the op, Bob Meucci himself was at the NAPA Nationals last year. Had a booth set up with Mike Massey doing trick shots off and on all week in it. Might want to see if he's there again this year in Atlanta in early June. One way of getting ahold of him in a way that he can't dodge you at least.

Now where or who sold the shafts? Were these ordered straight from Meucci, Ebay, or some other dealer?

You can send Budget Billiards a message. That is Bob Meucci's daughter and son in law.

Wasn't too long ago...Bob Meucci was in the hospital with heart problems. So as far as I know, I don't think the BMC cues were made while he is or was recuperating.

There has been more than one time that I sent cues back to Meucci and two different times it took over two years to get my cues back. And I love my Meucci Cues.

Send zuzubab1 (Brett Angel) a message on Ebay and see what he says.
I'm sure he'll make something up.

Straight from Meucci....he has owned the cue its self for over a year... the shafts were ordered a few months ago and then after receiving the shafts and calling Meucci he has got the run around and has been trying for a couple of months to get them to fix the problem....

I decided a long time ago that I would never buy another Meucci after the way they treated me. Then this whole deal happens to a friend of mine who by the way has been a huge fan of Meucci cues and is now questioning his loyalty to them...

I understand the way he feels...If I had ordered two custom shafts and they turned out this way I would have flipped out by now...he is actually taking it pretty good and has been trying to handle it in a very civil and polite manner....Meucci is giving him the shaft alright...

Shaun, if it is a Black Dot shaft, it has a very long taper. Really whippy.

As far as the shaft collar being bigger than the butt, thats a crap shoot because Muecci
has the rep for that as well. You wouldn't think so but it is a chance when you order a spare shaft and hope that the joints will match up.
Thats easily fixable as long as it is the shaft being too big.

As far as the inserts being off center, thats a different story but shouldn't surprise anyone. That you can fix too but shouldn't have to obviously on new shafts.
