Dennis Hatch wants a job

Yes RJ, I was being facetious re Cardiacs post.

When martial arts came around, I was a bit younger. I remember people talking about the
guys who were black belts in our city.

As the myth went, "yeah, they have to have their hands registered as deadly weapons with the city police".

I knew someone would call me on my post.

I've also heard people say "registering myself as a lethal weapon". But I question that.

I DO know, after a big mexican dinner, my exhaust is lethal. Do I have to register that?

I looked at some boxing and mma forums about this and its a myth, that you register as deadly weapons. but apparently you maybe charged with a worse case of assault if you get into a fight.

Hopefully someone can get Hatch a job.
Though why is he posting that he wants a job for only six months?
Why doesn't he get a permanant job?
Is it just a matter of saving some money so that he can continue to eek out a living as a pool player?
And why is he making his labor services available on this forum?
Can someone ensure that Hatch knows how to properly job hunt?

I don't like to tell others what they NEED to do, but by dog, he better start to gain a skill other than pool.
When I saw that Dennis substituted "whether" for weather in one of his Facebook replies, I cringed.
I hope that's not indicative of his overall English writing skills. Sad.

Writing skills are the least of my concerns when hiring for mgmt positions

Critical prerequisites:

basic math and being able to extrapolate on the run

reading compehension

heart

common sense

What is DH's skill set and what contribution can he bring to an organization on a short interval basis?

Without a good attitude, all the above is of almost no value. Is that what you mean by 'heart'?

"Heart" encompasses "attitude", however the core definition in my application is being able to "take a lickin an keep on tickin"

lol you people talking about registering your "hands" as "deadly weapons". even funnier is someone saying they have to register their gun. If I lived anywhere that I had to register my gun(s) I would move. BTW- registering hands is a fictitious tale that people should research before uttering.

Hopefully he will get a job if he wants it, if not then at least there are plenty of people willing to give him a handout in one form or another.

not sure how many have deadly hands, but i believe several have caused blindness

i can be pretty viscious behind a keyboard....

i don't know about boxers, or if Dennis is pro, but i know some "military"/black belts who have told me over the years, that they must walk away from a fist fight, because they are "legally lethal".

not, that this has ever discouraged them. (nor Dennis.) i still think he should be a bouncer or security. in fact, an ex-Marine & black belt, is head of security @ Venetian. where is Dennis now?

wheeew.. OK Hog, ususally I know when you are "busting chops" but this time you threw me :)

I will say this... Being a hockey player I know that the losing team needs to shovel off the rink and hose it down for a fresh ice cut. Maybe Hatch can become a Hoser... I mean... That is if he decide to live in Ca-nay-dica.

focusing on his pool game would yield the greatest potential return

i agree he's a Hell of a player. but apparently he's tapped? with no income insight of immediate future - as noted 4 months ago.

i only WISH, i could have had him @ the past 2 weeks @ $100/day, to crack my furniture skids/crates & grab a sofa 1-armed & sling that sucker across the showroom!

Thats not really a good analogy. Most working people over a 30 year period will have made like 500 to 700 thousand dollars and have nothing to show for it beyond surviving. If they are lucky they may have some equity in a home but a lot don't even have that.

They will also have lived lives of getting up in the morning and going to a job they hate, hardly taking a vacation and almost never have a chance to realize any kind of dream. I would not be so quick to feel sorry for someone like Dennis Hatch. Just the fact that we are on here talking about him puts him above most people.

"Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them."
Henry D. Thoreau

Most people names are not even known beyond their immediate circle for friends. They live, survive and die with three unread lines in an obituary, there are few exceptions. To have the chance to have done what Dennis has done in his life regardless of the financial rewards is quite something. Now or sometime soon he may wish to move on to a new phase of his life, but I seriously doubt he will or should have any regrets about his life as a pool player.

It is easy to wish we had done this or that in the past but the truth is, we are who we are at the time we are. That means that who you are today is not who you were then and we all change over time many times.

It may make someone feel superior to knock someone like Dennis due to his life choices. Those kinds of criticism often come from their own frustrations with their own lives regardless of their financial position. Money can't buy what Dennis has accomplished, he is exceptional.

Nice post. I hope Dennis finds something that suits his needs. I wish I had some work for him. The bolded part of your post is important, particularly as it descibes the most negative among us. Spot on in a lot of cases I suspect.

Dennis on face book,

"Dennis Hatch I can't work in a casino they check backgrounds"

Surprise, Surprise. Casinos aren't they only ones doing it these days.

That is a job limiting factor right there unless you apply for a Pardon.

Can't drive truck and cross lines either.

I mean... That is if he decide to live in Ca-nay-dica.

Sorry, we gots all the Rink Rats that we need.

With a Record, he would have a tough time getting in anyway.

What type of job does he want? Does he have any experience with anything other then pool? Is he looking for only 6 months or is he looking long term?

dennis better learn how to play poker , or deal it pool is a touh racket in cali, ju sayin.

It's true that many a pool player does play poker in California. I think Amar Kang used to do this full-time, and a New England player named Ian (can't remember last name) also did this. They pay you to play poker in some poker venues, so the seats look full. Well, at least that's what I was told. Not sure if this is why.

Anyway, poker is *not* a sure income, but it does beat a blank. Not everybody can play poker well and have tells. You have to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em . . . :D

What's the big deal. The guy is looking for work. I guess a lot of you don't know that probably MOST world class athletes have to hold down full or part time jobs because their chosen sports don't pay the bills.

I think most olympians have careers and work outside of their sport.

As for using facebook to ask it's called networking. Where else is Dennis most likely to find work someone willing to employ him who understands his situation and a professional player than among his fans? For all you know there might be a couple millionaires who have work that is flexible in nature where they can plug in a person without much investment in specialized training.
