Nice. Thanks for the reply. And no I'm not looking to spend $250 on one shaft from one of the "big boys" in the business. All I'm looking for is a solid playing maple shaft with an ivory ferrule. Maybe one of two of the old "Lakewood" type shafts.

You should have put all of your requirements in the original post if you weren't receptive towards any and all feedback.

I shot with a Perry Weston shaft a while back and it was really good! A tick better than the Ariel Carmeli that I ended up purchasing. Note that i'm completely satisfied with the Carmeli, it is so nice that shooting with friends cues takes a considerable amount of enjoyment out of the game.

I put that on a sneaky pete.

shafts

Mr. Klapp just made an old growth shaft for my BB and Bender both play lghts out. Great guy to deal with, and he doesn't have a website(lots of work for a one man show)! Can't go wrong with his work or prices.

I'm not suggesting a cue maker for you, just kind of reading your post a couple of times. You stated

** The old Lakewood shafts I had on my old Tascarella hoppe cue are my favorite shafts I've ever had."

And yet, you don't want to deal with a high profile cue maker. If your comfortable with a old lakewood shaft, I would start with Tascarella and see if they have a couple of old shafts laying around.
You may go through a few others and then decide to just get what your really comfortable with. I just say this as I have tried again and again to help folks until they just finally go with their true feelings instead of a replacement.
Good Luck with your search, just a opinion only,
Chuck

I bought a og Steve Klapp for my custom cue. Like the hit on a 5/16x14 ivory joint firm but with feel to it. The wife said it felt like hitting with a tree trunk.

I recently picked up one of his sneaky Petes and I think I'm content for awhile.

Well I pulled the trigger on two of Steve Klapp's old growth shafts with ivory ferrules. After reading a bunch of great reviews and receiving quite a few pm's from people who had nothing but good things to say about those old growth shafts of Steve's, I'm pretty excited and can't wait to get them in my hands!

Thanks to all who replied and sent pm's.

All good suggestions above IMO.

My choices would be;

1. Rick Howard - his taper is as close to perfect IMO, and the quality is beyond reproach. (I am having him build a shaft as we speak, he has built 10-20 shafts for me, all perfect. Let me say again, all perfect)

Ken
He is making an LD shaft now and everyone I have talked to prefer it over any Predator.

Sheldon Lebow and Ernie martinez,Schon

Sheldon does put the best sealer on the shafts, !!! I have 2 lakewood shafts(different tapers, differen't joints. They are stiffer ,and I had mine extended length. Now I have bought 20 blanks to be turned down. For all the rest of my cues. My Martinez shafts are very accurate too. The old schon shafts are great with micarta,
