Clear Coat about ready

WOW!!! and WOW!!! again. Congratulations as that is an unbelievable finish which I'm sure you are proud of. I don't know why you are looking for a substitute finish as you surely have mastered the one you are using.

I've always been proud of the finish that I attain but now I can see that it's back to the drawing board for me.

It would be nice to have a less volatile alternative. I've worked with some of the nastiest chemicals in the world when the mindset at the workplace(sportfishing boat) dictated that respirators and skin protection were for wimps. Stupid yes, but when you are young it is difficult to go against the flow. MEK, IMRONS, copper based bottom paints, epoxies, different kinds of other LPS.

I've breathed it all in various forms and when I worked in a body shop I went home with headaches many times.... I have no doubt it has affected my health. I've tried waterborne finishes, but wasn't happy. I liked Chroma, but I think it is overpriced and when they discontinued 2400(think that was the number), my supplier sold me a quart of activator(mine went bad) for 86.00 without telling me the paint was unavailable. I ended up giving the leftovers(most of it since I only had a couple ounces of paint) away.

If I can get away from solvent base finishes and get the same results, I'm in!

That's why........

I figured this would come up due to other thread.

I am and old guy, I can't simply say something without a story.

I come from a family of builders. When people like my Grandfather and Dad were younger they had to overcome things like using Sheetrock VS Plaster and Radiant heat going against the New York Home Builders association. Rather than give the whole speech or speeches I will just give the last part of one of my dad's. "They don't make them like they used to (brief pause) Thank God"

I can also remember having to leave a family house for days because it was painted using oil base paints. Water based? Never last.

I had a talk with one of my peers just the other day as we have used 1K clear Polyureas on some of the biggest bridges in Florida and California. He asked me, "Tom, why are you so Hell bent on worrying about materials for Cue Sticks?" I looked him in the eyes and said, because I am retired and like pool.

So unretouched other than crop and size prereacted VOC free from my Living Room.

I might as well get on the band wagon too. When you're ready to start selling I'm ready to start buying. Hope it's the perfect finish.....Rick.

Thought I would post a couple of more pics. One is going into Redwood Burl showing color enhancement and the next a peeled film sample showing how clear the product is.

That much flexibility kinda looks like it may have a problem with 'finish sanding' (due to heat). Any attempts of multi layered applications with microfinishing in between applications? Does it gum up at all?... and does it finish out glass smooth if additional 'touch ups' are attempted?

thx

Sorry, what makes you think it is flexable?

I am waiting to hear from a AZ member on how he made out.

Thanks

Hi Tom, when do you think you will be in a position to send a sample to New Zealand?
Thanks,
Neil

In this 'film image' (Attachment 335091) described as ..."the next a peeled film sample showing how clear the product is", ...

I guess I presumed you had "peeled" this from some different smoother surface (based on its shape laid onto the keyboard)?... so that you could show its translucent character.... Like was it sprayed/brushed onto a plastic (like a saran wrap) or a glass surface and then "peeled" off of it for the translucency demonstration.

So was this clear sample rigid when it was pulled off of the porous wood? or  I learn a new trick every day around here.

However its used, I hope its impact, heat and UV resistant and highly polishable after completed cure no matter what. Imo, We need to make you rich for this effort.

Sorry for any amateurish presumptions... assumptions. Just looking forward to a new solution to an old problem.

Back to my corner,

r

Tom....... Any idea when it's going to be released for sale ??? I'm out of clear and fixing to have to order some and would much rather have some of yours if it's not gonna be too much longer.

I am sorry to you and all waiting. It seems it dried to hard to sand out. All I can do is keep trying until it becomes more friendly.

I'm more encouraged by this than it being too soft. Hopefully a few tweaks gets it where you want it.
