Cleary and I volunteered to JCIN to do some commentary out in Vega$ - I even suggested a secondary commentary feed that would be a little bit more of an 'open' dialogue. JCIN was intrigued by the idea but never made it happen.
BTW - I find Billy's name comment harmless. I don't think you will find Ping Pong in the Urban Dictionary as an insult or any other publication for that matter.

So even though this thread may possibly have gone off the rails maybe someone else may learn from it, and we can just add it to all the other lessons you and the other ambassadors of our sport give to us freely on a regular basis.

Im still in LasVegas leaving on the 23rd but would like to visit with Justin at TAR maybe to do a little commentary before I leave if he's still interested in having me. When I return home to Dallas I am looking forward in posting more on how I really feel about all the people that contributed to this thread. I will reply to you as you are the only one who responded that he actually bought AccuStats DVD's or streams of tourneys and helped support the cause.
I just counted the DVD's I have purchased from AccuStat. I have 240 just here on shelves in my computer room. 3-Cushion, Banks, 9 Ball, 14.1 and One Pocket. I probably have a few loaned out to friends (yes I have 1 or 2) and maybe a few more scattered around the house.
I did not knock DD as a man, a good person or anything else. He's one of the greatest and doesn't have too many faults (except for his deep distaste for Fats), I said his commentary is lacking and it is. Of course, to the many hero-worshippers here, that is a horrible thing to say but if those hero worshippers spent their hard-earned money to listen to DD never know the score of a game or match or to listen to him every time a guy breaks a one pocket rack that the obvious response shot is a 4-rail kick (that no player has ever shot when he recommended it), then those hero-worshippers might get a little tired of DD also.
If they listened to him commentate a Bank game and call every bank that goes "long" short and vice-versa then you'd maybe get a little upset. After all, when you spend your money to view and listen to these things you expect something in return, or at least I do.
In closing let me say this; Danny D. knocks Minnesota Fats given the slightest opportunity and nobody complains, all I said is that his commentary is lacking and he should be gone from behind the mic. I'm not knocking everything he ever did as a human being the way he knocks Fats.

Try using a little sense and you'll clearly see I made those comments in reference to commentating and commentators. It's no knock on DD in any other way.
If you don't support Accustats by buying their product then your opinion doesn't mean much anyway.

Personally Im glad you have purchased the 240 some DVDs from Accustats. I hope you continue to do so. Spending money on a product gives you a right to criticize but does not make it truth. Personally I dont like the dry info type guys. Mark Wilson and Jim Wych are very knowledgable but frankly I am bored with their commentary. I do appreciate their depth of knowledge of the game however and know that they are an important factor to the game. But not for me.
Danny and Billy as did Grady and Freddy the Beard offer much more than scientific linear thinking. They offer something more abstract. Instead of 1+1 equals 2 its 1+1 can be 3 too. If you dont know my meaning well we probably couldnt meet eye to eye on a lot of things. But lets agree on one thing. You have a right to your opinion. We have a right to ours. And we prove it by putting where our mouths are by our purchases.
If old age is something you are impatient with I counter with old age is levels of experience that I have not.experienced and look forward to. The level of a Billy or a Danny is something that most of us will never know. Having them is so valuable and worthwile I can put up with their personality.
I know there are a lot of people out there who think their knowledge of pool makes them eligible for commentary. Believe me guys at Accustats tell me of the requests of individuals who put themselves for availability to fill in for Billy or Danny.. But you know just because you sing great in the shower does not make you eligible for a recording contract.
In the end you seem to have a personal grudge because Danny dislikes Fats. Yes he does. But he was there when Fatty made all these boasts. Danny, from my personal experience with him, always hated a bully and was a kind of guy that always backed his words with action. Thats his personality. One I respect him for.

Personally I can't stand Mark Wilson and the way he coddles and sucks up to Danny D. but that's just me.

I do not have a personal grudge with anyone. I don't know DD and I didn't know Fats. My reference was to people knocking me because I don't care for DD's commentary but they have no problem with DD's knocking Fatty everytime he gets a chance. Fair is fair. Even Freddy (Beard) wouldn't mention Fats around DD for fear of setting him off. Freddy loved Fats and would brook no dissent from anyone on the topic so he didn't mention Fats around DD since he loved them both.
P.S. I have spent in excess of $5000 on AccuStats products and anyone who wants to call me a bad person for not liking certain commentators should name what they've spent.
