Who is the best 1 pocket teacher?

One Pocket tips!

Always Play the score!
Defend balls by your hole!
when in trouble take a scratch!
When you can leave opponent doubled up on balls!
When you can leave opponent on rail!
when you can leave opponent in the stack!
when you can leave opponent cuing over balls!
Do the MOST with each and every shot!
Do not FORGET to incorporate kisses & caroms!
Always remember a shot is good only if the reward out weighs the risk!
Never be scared to leave distance.

RULE #1 and most important! Always play cue ball position MORE than making or positioning any balls on the table!

I dunno, kiddo...

There is a new 1p style all the kids are playing these days and the new fad is 8& out.

Oh come on Lou, everyone needs it drilled into their heads how important the lag is in a 3 out of 5 match because it means that if it goes 5 games the lag winner gets to break the 5th game.

And of course we all know that the correct response to 99% of 1 pocket breaks is to kick 4 rails as DD so frequently diagrams for us, even though no player ever shoots it.

Like you mentioned earlier, when a player is biding his time because there's not much to do, DD always calls it a "nothing shot that accomplished nothing". He apparently forgot that many 1 pocket shots seem like this to the unknowledgeable.

It's kind of funny because he does a lot of commentary with Mark Wilson and even Mark, not known for his 1pocket, struggles not to say something sometimes during the commentary about one of Danny's "insights" -- you can almost hear the blood gushing out as Mark bites his lip sometimes.

I do believe the thinking on 1pocket has evolved.

Efren had a lot to do with that and then the whole slew of younger players that shoot straight as a laser. Some of the old-timers have not kept up on current developments in the field.

Danny is the one the "smarts" seek out to get the "inside secrets"

You are correct. I would take Danny D. as a coach and be able to play even with anyone.

Danny is the one that "smarts" seek out to get the "inside techniques" to one-pocket. I could name some that would surprise everyone, however, out of respect I will keep that information confidential.

This confusion about Danny is another example of "common knowledge" being flawed, Danny D. is secretly the best one-pocket instructor in the country. The ones that go to Danny don't want their names revealed, and use his knowledge to win...and win big!!!

Not sure where you got your opinion, but its far from the facts. Danny D is as good of a One Pocket instructor as there is and is only second to Grady.....,

He plays the game at a very good speed too.

True, and Efren has their money in his pocket.

My comment regarding which instructor to choose is it depends on what style of one pocket you want to play but regardless of the instructor there are so many nuances and different positions in one pocket an instructor can only tell you so much.

If your opponent has a ball near their pocket. Move it.

If you don't have a ball near your pocket. Put one there.

I charge $5 for a 4 hour session and $9 for an 8 hour session.

Where is Danny d located this thread has got me really thinking about some one pocket lessons thanks

If Danny isn't there, ask for Carl Gallante

having Danny on my side would stack the odds considerably

WIth Danny D. coaching me I can play even with anyone. I didn't say I would win over a long period of time, however, having Danny on my side would stack the odds considerably in my favor compared to not having Danny D.'s knowledge.

Of course we are talking about playing on a 10' table. ;) ....and no, this HEMP is the perfect "pool fuel" - and legal in all 50 states.

I watched a video of Danny giving a one pocket lesson and he mentioned several moves and strategies that will definitely enhance my game. Anyone who has the opinion that Danny D. would not be a good instructor in 1 pocket would have to be a complete idiot.

Obviously the best 1 pocket instructor in the country is the guy who taught you to play the game in only three weeks.

You'd best start practicing your 4-rail intentional fouls after your oppo's break because that's his go-to shot almost everytime:D.

I don't believe that anyone in this thread has denigrated DD's ability to teach the game to people who don't know it very well. He has knowledge that can help people such as you and others who have yet to learn the things he knows. That knowledge has not been called into question nor has his ability to teach, but if you listened to his commentary during 1 pocket matches you would quickly learn that the game has passed him by and nobody has yet told him.

To people who can't play the game well it doesn't make a difference.

working with intermediate and beginning players -couldn't have an experienced opinion

Committing to a wide range audience is different than one on one training with an accomplished player. Danny D. is most effective with accomplished players, as far as working with intermediate and beginning players I couldn't have an experienced opinion.

No one said it only took me 3 weeks to learn how to play one-pocket, I did say it would take me 3 weeks to play it on a high level again. TR in Dallas is the one that taught me the most and hanging around Wade Crane, "Lizard" and Billy I. helped quite a bit.

I did beat Amarillo Slim out of $30,000 in Baton Rouge giving him a game that no one on earth thought I could give him......they were mistaken. 'The Game is my Teacher'
