I think the women did have something similar in place and they were marketed very well. Then they decided to market themselves .

Education and experience are always good things, but they are not guaranteed to lead to success. We are not talking about an individual business, it's the whole pool industry that is declining.

2 ends of the business spectrum. Some are passionate about the product or work. Making money is icing on the cake. Some are passionate about making money. The product or work doesn't matter. If/when the business stops making money, they find another type of product or work to make money. 2 ends and then you have everything in between. Take a guess where the big investors and corporations are.

Here is a thread from 2009 - which might shed some light on the WPBA and some of the reasons why they are pretty much gone.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=159682&highlight=lincoln

Obviously the first reason was losing Peg Ledman.
The economy didn't help either.

But the sponsors basically telling the WPBA what they can or cannot do is a formula for failure.
And that is what happened.

As far as I am concerned, they had blinders on and would not listen to common sense.
There were a couple of other instances that the WPBA caused themselves a lot of problems - including one where I was 'trying' to do a number of events - but the woman and men would both have to be allowed to play. The WPBA said OK - then the APA protested - event though it had nothing to do with the BCA Pool League.

Short sighted on all of their parts!

Key posts are #17, #34, #43, #46, $56 and #73 - but the whole thread (all 8+ pages) is a good read.

That old thread sure did die off with no responses other than from Christina DLG. Is the APA still one of their sponsors? Don't know what they would be sponsoring at this point. They also need some change to their approach and model too from saying okay give us a proposal and sanctioning money to host our event, and instead be thankful to anyone willing to host them.

You got to change your AZB settings for responses per page. It is only 3 pages (rather than 8) to go through for me

I really don't know if there is a solution or way to "fix" the WPBA at this point. Perhaps they need to go back to original model and just try and get some events going where ever and how ever they can? It is very sad.... there was (is?) real potential there.

A college friend of mine, RIP John Rousseau, had Go Daddy lined up to be a sponsor for the gals during his short boisterous position as their President, but the fox was in the henhouse and that may of been the only real problem, we'll never know now. His old name on here was the Collection Guru, worked for years in the credit card biz world. He was a good 14.1 player in college and a bowler/leftie that could easily of gone pro, his average was equal to the best during the late sixties and early seventies. He was tho, a hound dog when around Janette, but his intentions were always the IL second city format, like Bill Murray or Robin Williams, always up for a good laugh or prank.

I am sad to hear about John. I was present at a meeting they had with him during the Reg Tour Championships held at Hard Times. He did come off a little strong and I felt there was a lot of resistance to his approach... I really don't remember it all that well though.

I think whats most important is to look to how the tour can get back on track, rather than what happened before. I wonder if any of them have thought to see if Peg Ledman might consider coming back. Though I am guessing they would not be able to offer her much at this point... :(

I wish someone from the WPBA would chime in!

Years ago when the casinos started to go cold on the WPBA and sponsors were bailing I said to get off their high horses and forget about casinos and TV and have tournaments in sports bars like the men are learning now. In the end the women were all pulling in different directions like the men have been for 100 years. Johnnyt

I agree, whatever it takes to get some events on the calendar should be the plane. I am sure there are some good pool rooms that would host an event!
