Thought I would help someone out that is looking for a cheap way to press veneers when gluing up. I found a Shop fox press that works great.

There is a seller on Ebay that sells them for around $80 but he wants $55 for shipping, he calls them a book press, you can get them on Amazon for $62 with free shipping!

Just search for Shop Fox D3221 Super Press on Amazon.

I mounted it to a bunch of 2x4's that I planed flat, then use a couple pieces of Corian to press between. You could use Aluminum or even MDF for this as well. Mount it in the vice and load up your veneer sheets. :)

Kudos to you sir.
I appreciate your sharing.
I've been thinking of building one but I don't think I can do it for that money.
You've earned some green.

What kind of glue are you using for pressing veneers? I'm using Titebond wood glue rolled on and it seems to work good. Anyone using anything different?

I use West system or my favorite is polyurethane since no mixing is required.
I found everytime I used titebond I would get some color bleeding and it seemed to take really long for it to fully dry between them.

All 3 will work though, just depends on what you like.

I tried titebond, and got the bleeding also. It also was too flexable. i use epoxy, just switched to West Systems. The epoxy seeps right thru, no bleed trhu(yet) and the whole stack comes out very stiff which is good for cutting, sanding, etc.

I have been using some of their epoxy for about a year now, very nice stuff. Although mixing it takes a minute or 4 but well woth it.

I use their 5 min for ferrules and a few other things. I use the Max 1618 for points, inlays, ring billets. veneers, and for sealer before the clear coat. Get some 6 oz plastic squeeze bottles at the hobby shop for easy dispensing.

I don't look back at West system.............

I can do up to 15 sets of stacks... but I will never have the time to do that many at once! bit overkill but I may someday have a helper to feed the press ;)
